  1. Thank you for this. That did solve the problem. I apologize for my late response. I had a medical problem (now resolved).
  2. I just tried playing the WAV file back in Quicktime instead of Apple Music, which is what I had been using. No problems. So apparently this is caused by Apple Music. I can't imagine how.
  3. Yes, I just tried that, and it's the same effect with PCM. It happens about 3 seconds in. The sound is a slightly rough popping increase in volume, like what you might get if you were playing a Logic track and then clicked on a gain plugin.
  4. I have tried to export a Logic file with about six stems several times. Each time it produces an mp3/m4a file with a weird crashing noise in the first measure. I am using Kontakt with Fluffy Audio plugins and Omnisphere and UAD plugins. Everything is authorized and paid for. After the weird crashing noise, it settles down and sounds -- okayish. Actually it doesn't sound as good as the original, and I can accept that, it is compressed, but it seems worse than that. The balance changes. Any suggestions?
  5. I went to the Apple store and tried out the lowest-priced iMac. I loaded up the Eilish demo and then started fooling around, creating a dozen or so audio tracks and about 150 software tracks. Obviously no third-party plug-ins. But it handled everything with speed, absolutely crushing my MBP 2015 with 16Gb. I would have bought it then and there except for the paltry 256Gb storage.
  6. Thank you both, that was helpful. Is there an online course that you are aware of that might fill me in with examples? I'm sorry about the delay in thanks. Final exams!
  7. I understand the concept of stereo as sound image creating depth. What I don't understand is how and why to use the pan knob on some tracks, how far left and right to go, and so on. I have Googled away and have not found any good information on how to use panning and stereo artfully. Is there a video instruction program that explains not just how to twiddle knobs for effects, but gives guidelines as to how to mix your compositions to use panning and stereo for artful effects?
  8. Thank you so much! Just making the copy solved the problem. I didn't have to remove any plug-ins. The old version crashes if I so much as touch a track, but that's okay since I can work with the copy.
  9. I updated everything on Logic and installed Catalina to see if would solve this problem, but it hasn't. I have one project that opens, but then Logic freezes and I have to start over. It's just one project. I have tried creating an alternative, but the alternative crashes, too. This is my current project and I'm pretty happy with it, actually ready to do a master, so this is very frustrating and I would really appreciate help! I've run the plugin manager and everything that is in use is validated. Spectrasonics is all up to date (Omnisphere, Trilian, Keyscape).
  10. I don't have anything permanently connected. The files were just regular music files, not stored inside projects. I finally moved out a lot of other stuff and created space that way. But I don't think that the space I should have gained is back. Still, I have enough. Weird experience but I don't think there's any solution to it although I'd love to hear one if it exists. I have never had an experience like this with a computer! Every other computer I've had, if you have delete files and empty the trash, you gain space.
  11. Not strictly a Logic question but relevant. LPX needs lots of storage. So I deleted over 100Gb in files I don't need (mp3 files). I figured this would free up that amount of storage. Not so. It hasn't changed at all! I have deleted the files from my computer, emptied the trash twice, disconnected the backup where I put them, and restarted the computer. No change! I would contact Apple but they are not giving much support these days. They won't call me. So I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
  12. I see my Omnisphere presets that I made last year in the Library. But I recently saved some "patches" and they are not in the Library. Does anyone know how to get the patches to display? I know that the patches are in the same folder, because I can see them when go there with the Finder, but they don't display in the Library. For example (for you Omnisphere users), the "Prophet Ten Pad" which you find in Omnisphere is a "patch" and does not show up in the Library. The other problem is that none of the presets or patches show up after the first setting. For example, if I start a new track and open Omnisphere, I can see my Omnisphere presets the first time. But after that, if I change the track or even make a duplicate track, all I see is the usual array of Logic instruments plus something called "User patches." I don't see any way to access my Omnisphere presets at that point aside from starting over and creating a new Omnisphere patch, which seems weird and inefficient.
  13. Hi, I never have used cloud backups. But I thought it might be smart to have a third backup that was not onsite. So I put my Logic files into iCloud. I was not aware that iCloud takes the files you upload and then deletes them from your computer! I didn't want to do that. Not at all. However, I just read online accounts of people trying to get back their uploaded files from iCloud and having them disappear completely. What I would like is to completely get out of iCloud, which seems to be part of the New Apple model that I dislike, and put the files back on my computer. (After that I'll find a different cloud service that just runs as a backup). I would think I could google this, but I've tried, and I have not found what I need. Any advice? Or is there some setting that will let me just use iCloud as a backup and not as a "thief" taking stuff off my computer without my permission? Also, what advice might you have as to the best backup service (not iCloud). Thank you for your help.
