  1. Ah right ok. I've only really thought to try the graph view today. I assumed the white line would be a visual representation of the threshold. But I understand now it's not, it's showing the amount of compression. Thank you.
  2. That was a very fast response thank you. So would example B where there -15 dB of compression generally be considered far too much in most circumstances? Example A is so subtle I can't hear any difference. I think what I'm not understanding is if the peaks aren't touching the threshold white line on the graph (A), how come it's being compressed? 'Threshold' implies that it needs to hit that level before the compressor activates does it not? I feel like I'm still not understanding something!
  3. So this might be a bit more of a compressor question than a logic question as such. But it's in relation to the logic compressor. When you have the compressor in graph mode so you can see the white line threshold, is the sound only being compressed when it drops down to the actual sound level, say a bit below the peaks? I've screen grabbed two examples below. The only difference is in B I've dropped the threshold down so it is clipping the peaks visually. Is the sound being compressed in both examples? In example B I've had to drop the threshold to about -45dB which seems a huge amount more than the books, videos and education tells you. With example A it doesn't sound any different at all though. What's happening here exactly? Thanks.
  4. Really basic question sorry I'm having a brain freeze. How do you keep the view on the same few bars in piano roll window even when you press start? So that it doesn't keep jumping back to the start of bar one even though the playback sound does? Example is: I'm starting the play back sound from bar 1 but I want to be continually watching on say bar 7. Thanks.
  5. It's good and eerie. Actually could be called 'Strange Room' the bit in the film when you realise you've been drugged and you're trying to grapple with consciousness and the (strange) room is swimming...
  6. Hi, when I now try to add 3rd party apple loops by dragging into the loop library area they are added into the 'Untagged Loops' window instead of the 'Apple Loops' window. They used to add to the main library does anyone know what is going on here or is it just me?
  7. I think it's not bad. The 60Hz to 120Hz area could be tamed a little better. That might improve the clarity of the guitars. It's currently higher in the mix than the top end. Looking at some commercial metal that seems not to be the case. The ticking hi hat is a bit to prominent (compared to other examples I've just listened to). Subtle multiband saturation on the lead double tracked guitars might help as well? Perhaps around the mids/ high mids to bring out definition. Also something to make them a bit wider like short delay or subtle stereo spreader will add a bit of sparkle and more separation. I'm not sure I really know what I'm talking about though
  8. Really good. Just a touch harsh and could be warmed up a bit perhaps. The high mids are a bit forward (I'm listening on good headphones so not my monitors!) But very professional sounding overall
  9. Interesting I've never heard of 'technical death metal' before, so that's an introduction to a new genre! I guess there could be better separation between some of the instruments but that is what we're all striving for. It could have benefited from a touch more dynamic variation but that's just my preference and I'm not familiar with the genre. Although the main guitar was quite forward in the mix it could be given a bit more 'sparkle' - perhaps there's still a small touch of mud somewhere in the middle of the mix/ spectrum that could be cleaned up. I quite enjoyed listening to it anyway!
  10. Yes that makes sense - transients with the meter because they maybe so brief you need to see them as well. It's a bit like 2 steps forward and one back at the moment, it is taking years! Thanks David.
