  1. Thanks very much for the replies! Your explanation makes great sense, David! And Sir Hannes - I always listen to my mixes as I near the end in mono (Avantone speaker) to make sure they still sound good. I'm usually quite happy with them, though I'm one of those who likes to start mixing in mono and then eventually move to stereo. I like to know that nothing is competing too much in mono, then I feel free to move to stereo. But I digress.
  2. Thanks David. I want to be certain I am comprehending properly here. Like most all mixes today, I spread instruments out in the stereo field quite a lot. Yet the signal on my Correlation Meter is almost entirely right of zero. Which I believe is a good thing. But I am not comprehending how a wide stereo field yields a close RL correlation. Maybe I'm getting in too deep here and should run along and be happy my mix is ok and stop thirsting for knowledge? 🙂 Damn rabbit holes.
  3. Hi there. I was checking for any phasing issues with a completed track and discovered that one soft synth sends the correlation meter on the stereo out to the left of zero. When I listen to just the isolated soft synth in mono, I don't hear any cancellation. Do I need to be concerned? Is ANY sway past zero on the meter truly problematic?
  4. Perfect - thanks to you both! I'll try the gain plug in trick too, simply because - nice idea!
  5. Like most, I want my kicks and bass in mono. But Alchemy and Ultrabeat are stereo. Unless I am mistaken, I must have stereo kicks if I use samples from these sources. Sonically/stereofield speaking, is this a bad idea? Can't be too bad if all these kick samples are stereo to begin with, eh? Thoughts?
  6. Thanks as always, David!
  7. Mastering Engineer says please bring kick and bass each down by -2db. Bass is a single track, so I grab the fader and bring it down -2db. Kick is comprised of 4 kicks. I've been grabbing all 4 then watching master fader until it comes down about -2db. Can I simply create a track stack of the 4 kicks, then solo that sub fader and bring it down -2db? I'm accomplishing the same thing but with a faster method, am I correct?
  8. Hi all. I'm having this same issue with a deleted section on a vocal (breath noise between vocal parts). I went through my plug-ins one by one and guess which one is the culprit? The I/O sending to my outboard EQ! How the heck can my analog gear have a "recording" of the deleted part?
  9. Thanks robinloops - appreciate the reply! I had already checked it on a couple other iPhones. The part distorted on an iPhone 7 and two Xs. Today I was able to check it out on a 12 - CRYSTAL CLEAR! I would never focus my mix around a smart phone, but if possible, wanted to at least make it as good as possible for that medium. Much thanks!
  10. But I want an Oompa Loompa now! Thanks David - makes sense. You’re correct - not the answer I wanted but at the same time, you saved me lots of sweeping time. As always, merci mon ami!
  11. Hi all! Just curious if anybody has some helpful input here. My current mix has a couple parts that distort only on iPhones (that I'm aware of). I do have an Avantone MixCube and it sounds just fine on it. I've heard similar distortion on some occasions with well-known mixes, so at least that's comforting. And while my mastering engineer says to not mix for an iPhone, I can't help myself. That will be the first impression of many as it is a common source for music. Other than EQ sweeping the offending instrument (which will likely ruin the vibe), are there any other "tricks" to solve this? No worries if not - but thought it wise to run by all you good folks! I only ever seem to have this issue with software synths and virtual instruments. Waveforms look fine. No clipping. Not recorded hot. Thoughts?
  12. Meant to update this for anybody who might have the same issues in the future. The issue was resolved by going into the Project Settings-->Smart Tempo-->turn "Set imported audio files to:" Off. For some reason, mine was default set to "On + Align Bars and Beats", which was causing the imported tracks to conform to the project tempo.
  13. Was just working in a different project and pulled the same ref track in to see what happens. No problems at all - worked as usual. There must be something about the project settings in the problematic project that is causing this ref track tempo issue??
