  1. Hi, I have a question about the basic most essential effects you should use when recording instruments in Logic. I have been using Logic a while now but the software is so massive and there is so much you can do that it´s impossible to learn everything, at least I feel very limited to what I am capable of taking in and learning. So what I want to know is this: If you are going to record songs mostly with the midi instruments that are to find in Logic, which effects are the most important ones to know to get the most "professional" sound on the instruments? If I get some good tips here I can try and focus on learning and mastering these instead of reading about EVERYTHING you can do in Logic. I understand that you can do almost anything but to me it´s enough to know a few essential ones that can make it sound more professional. Note: Until now I have never done anything to the midi instruments, just kept them as they are when you choose them in the software. PS! I have also tries to search on Youtube but there are so many videos, so if you have any suggestions to some really good Youtube videos on this it will be very well welcomed. Thank you in advance.
  2. - Yes, next time I see him I will try to remember asking him about it. The drum set I had used for that particular song was "Dub Smash" however, so it might have been just the hard sound of it, because I had not done anything to change the sound of it at all. But I guess it´s possible, as you are saying above, to adjust the intensety of it and the sharp sound to make it more "pop-ish" but still keep the hard snare that I like. Thank you for your good feedback.
  3. - Thank you very much for your answer, Mike. That was actually the kind of answer I was hoping for but I thought that I would get something like "of course you need to think about the style". I guess the reason that I posted the question in the first place was that I was in contact with a professional record producer who listened to a demo sketch of mine on which I had used one of these sets, and he expressed something like " the drums sound like house or something", and then I started thinking about if I had gotten everything completely wrong. But I think I agree with you, if a drum set sounds good to me then it´s right for the project no matter if it´s originally meant for another music style.
  4. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the different drum sets that are featured in Ultrabeat in Logic and what kind of music styles they are meant for. I am creating mostly pop/r&B music but I tend to like the drum sets that have a great snare sound, and I find myself choosing Breaks remix kit, Big beat remix kit, Dub smash, Major crush and Massive beat a lot - simply just because I love the sound of these sets. However, I didn´t think about if they actually fit the music style that I am aiming for. So my question is: What kind of music are the drum sets mentioned above meant for? Which drum sets are best suited for POP/r&b (besides the ones that have pop and r&b in the title. However, I usually find these too "weak" in the snare sound according to my liking, so I have not used these on my projects) And should we always stick to the drum sets that are meant for certain styles or just go for the ones that you like the sound of? Will the project sound weird if you use the wrong drum set? I would be very happy if someone has any input for me on this because I am a bit unsure what to do. Thank you for any comments.
  5. Thanks, I found it and it was helpful but I came over another problem;the transpose only has 12, 24 and 36 steps that you can change it to upwards but it seems like the key I am looking for is inbetween there somewhere. Is it possible to somehow do something about that?
  6. Thanks for the rply. Itr is midi.
  7. Hello, I have a challenge that I hope someone can help me with. I have a project that I have recorded but suddenly I discovered that the bass track is in the wrong key after I changed the bassline. Now I am hoping that it is possible to somehow change the key in only the bass track so that it is in the same key as the rest of the project. How can I do this? I have searched on the forum for help but haven´t been sure what to really search for. (it was really easy to do this in Garageband when I was working in that program, then it was just to drag a button up or down, but it seems like it is much more difficult to do so in Logic.) Thank you for any help.
  8. Okay, thanks again both of you. Good tips that I really should consider. Christian
  9. Thank you very much for your help, JacobP - seems like it worked. But do you have any explanations to why I have to open it up in a new window like that, why it won´t open just by double-clicking on the file? And can I be sure that it will work with all the projects like that? Christian
  10. Hi, I am sometimes experiencing something very frustrating. When I have created a new project in Logic and I have done the work I am saving it in a Logic folder on my desktop. The problem occurs when I try to open the project again and doubleclick on it. Then the work is gone and the only thing left is the Ultrabeat window (when I have been working with beats). The strange thing is also that it only happens with some projects but not all, but I just experienced that a project that I could open before now had disappeared this way - so I´m not sure if it will happen to all the projects I have. Obviously, this is very frustrating and I am almost afraid of creating a new project because I am afraid to lose everything I am working on and I feel that I can´t trust that it´s being saved. Does anybody have any knowledge about what this can be and why it happens? Has anyone else experienced the same and what is the best and safest way of saving a Logic project? Thank you for any explanations you might have. Regards, Christian
  11. Hi, I am having some difficulties when trying to create some snare rolls in the Step Editor. I think I have found out how to do it now, so that´s fine. I have marked the section that I want to edit in the piano roll and then pressed on the Step Editor button. From what I have understood should happen now is that there should be a pull down curtain of all the drums that I have used in my drum segment, and that I should be able to edit the drum notes there. But what happens is that I just get an endless curtain of all kinds of drums, but the notes are not corresponding with the right drums at all. There are notes that have been placed at drums that I have not used at all in my drum patterns and the drums that I have used have no notes at all besides them. I hope you understand what I mean. What have I done wrong? Ruffen
  12. Thank you so much, Jordi! There it was. You solved my problem . Checking the "show advanced tools" was the solution to everything. However, why couldn´t they just write so in the manual? But anyway, thank you. Ruffen
  13. Hello, I really need some help. I am going to try to edit the drum programming sections and put in some snare rolls, and I found a tip on Youtube which involves the "Hyper Editor", which I have read now is called the "Step Editor". That´s all good, but the only problem is: I CAN´T FIND the step editor, and I have searched the whole logic looking for it but it is nowhere to be found. The manual says to go to the control bar and click the step editor button beside the piano roll, but there is no step editor beside the piano roll - so I can´t press the button. WHY is it so hard to find? I assume it should be included in Logic when I bought it, and that I don´t need to buy it separately? Please, can somebody tell me how to find this tool and why I can´t find it?? Thank you, it´s frustrating...
  14. Well, I am having the same problem as the threadstarter. I have one drummer region that I have gotten the way I want it and want to put another region next to it. But when I place the second region until, the ending on the first region changes and ruins everything. I HAVE of course read the whole thread before I posted and tried the solution you mentioned. I went to MIDI and changed what I wanted and turned it back again to drummer, but even though I changed it in MIDI the same stupid thing happened when I placed the edited region next to the first one; it changed again. My question is simply: Is there really no way to stop the regions to change/alter when you put another region (maybe MIDI edited) next to it?? I really can´t understand why this should not be possible considering everything you can do in Logic. Can a Logic/Drummer wiz please help me, that would be very much appreciated.
