  1. This is one of the annoying things about Logic, the only two ways to do it are to use the Select All Following of Same Pitch / Region key command or open the track editor window and it will work there, shift arrow selecting only the next regions on that track.
  2. Agreed 100%! I always wonder why the grid lines go away when turning Flex on in the editor. Also being able to make the regions transparent in the Project page like they are when you mute them would be helpful.
  3. Yeah Logic was 1000 and Space Designer was an extra 300

    Track Stack issue

Yeah the Summing Stack won't work if you change the output of a track inside of it, may as well not be in the Summing Stack. For the result you desire you should use the Folder Stack, which is essentially a VCA group. The Summing Stack is muting those tracks with sends successfully because the ouput of those tracks are sent to the Sum ( an Aux essentially with a Stack to visually organize your tracks and assign macro controls more easily ).

    Track Stack issue

For what you're wanting to do you should be using Folder Track Stacks, not a Summing Stack. A Summing Stack will just pipeline anything to that bus, its not going to account for anything the is being sent to a different bus. The Folder Stack will do what you want, it will mute those tracks inside and aux fx tracks - regardless of where they are being sent. You can also put Summing Stacks inside Folder Stacks, you just need to mute the Summing Stacks before the Folder Stack if you don't want them to send to Aux tracks outside of the Folder Stack, the Aux tracks in the Folder Stack will get muted when muting the Folder Stack. Stacks on Stacks of Stacks.....
  6. If you’re just getting started in music Logic presents an overwhelmingly good arsenal of tools, even if you’re a pro there is still so many good fx and plug ins - the Vintage EQ’s and everything they acquired from Camel Audio are amazing. As a composer I have a ridiculous amount a plug ins and libraries, and I still ended up using the Studio Horns for something last week because it just sounded better for the job - you can really get amazing results with the articulations. Mabye the Studio Strings aren’t the greatest but they sound a lot better than Abletons bundled sounds, Cubase is no picnic either with it’s bundled libraries - even most of Halion’s bundled stuff sounds like it was taken from bad samplers from the mid 90’s. I agree DMD is not amazing but it’s no slouch, slap some smart controls on Ultrabeat and keep the music moving. DKD sounds amazing for sure, I have BFD / Superior Drummer and am always amazed how good those kits sound - must have had Massenburg record them or something Logic also destroys Cubase as far as CPU effiency, it’s not even comparable. I use both all the time and am always amazed by Logic. Cubase also has horrible time stretching algorithms, no multrack warp / flex time editing / and the bundled sound content is mostly a joke. You can run giant templates with VE Pro and some slave PCs, that’s a huge benefit. But Logic can handle so much natively on one computer.
  7. I do think Logic strikes a good balance, Ableton is just too flat after a long sessions use - my eyes get bored. I also think Logic has taken the good part of the Ableton flat influence and applied it well (Tremolo fx for instance) - it’s flat but not too much.

    Track Stack issue

I just tried it and it all works as expected, Summing Stack mutes all when mute and can still hear the aux channel send when soloed.
  9. Just tried and Dan is right, got the same result using audio. Midi is fine. Not cool!
  10. Man this a killer update, Logic is crushing it! On top of all the new headline features the transpose region shortcut is awesome. A real small gripe but huge for me, the white flashing alert doesn’t go off anymore when scrolling up and down tracks - it used to flash when you hit the bottom or top. I detest the white flash still but this made it way better.
  11. This update brought back one of my favorite features from Logic 9, simultaneous vertical and horizontal zoom - I love it! Maybe it was in a previous update and just didn't notice? Hold control and option key while scrolling with mouse wheel.
  12. Insanely good update, I’m stunned. They’ve addressed so many things and it seems they’ll probably be doing even more. Logic just rules, been flirting with Cubase but Logic is just so second nature and the workflow and CPU efficiency are so amazing - this update really took it to a new level. All that’s left on my wish list: - More responsive/immediate audio editing. No delay when making an adjustment transposing or moving audio. - unlimited tracks - drag and drop audio from arrange page to plug ins - unload ram / Inst when freezing inst - revamped EXS / Ultrabeat Does anyone know how to disable the flashing white light when you make an error? I often use arrow keys to go up and down tracks and it flashes when I get to the top or bottom. If someone knows a terminal hack or something I would be much obliged.
  13. I need to spend more time with the score in Cubase to give you a better answer, it's certainly good but I do know a lot of composers who prefer Logic because the score looks more professional. Steinberg apparently hired a lot of the Sibelius team in London and they've been developing a new notation app to be incorporated into Cubase in the near future, Daniel Spreadbury's Making Notes blog is very interesting http://blog.steinberg.net So glad to hear everyone's thoughts on the subject, I'll still be using Logic quite often since I have so many projects in it and so many friends use it. Cubase and Logic are very similar in so many ways; Inspector on the left of the arrange page, plug in inserts look similar in the mixer in Cubase 8.5, Scissors tool behavior is similar, etc... Cubase is so feature rich that I do see how that can be a turn off to some. If Logic improved it's file browser, audio fx processing, and midi editing I probably wouldn't have thought about Cubase. But the Cubase workflow has ingrained itself in my workflow now. I've managed to make the GUI as close to what I like from Logic 9 as possible and it feels very cozy now. Along with the items Zip mentioned I'd have to add these: MediaBay (File/Loop Browser) : - Preview any type of audio file at song tempo - Search entire content of folder fast, using search terms - Drag and drop plug in / track / fx chain presets to mixer - Preview Midi files through any chosen VST or midi output - Preview VST (instrument) presets - click on a Kontakt or Massive preset and you can play it and preview it's sound from a midi controller before deciding to add it to the project / arrange page Offline Fx Processing : - Key Commands to access favorite plug ins - Change any plug in the chain of processing / edit the current one, disable it, saves it to offline fx history (Sound Designers dream!!) - Convenient even for just filtering with hi pass filter on multiple files Info Bar on top of Arrange page : - Transpose any audio file buy semitone or cents with the flick of a mouse wheel ( for multiple files selected as well ) - Gain and fades ( easy shortcuts for this too, multiple files simultaneously, draw volume lines with pencil tool for further adjustment) Automation: - Reveal on write ( so convenient ) - Show/Hide all used parameters per track basis or all tracks in project And yeah the midi editing is ridiculously good, the multiple controller lanes are amazing and the note expression is so cool (awesome for any instrument where the velocity is mapped to modulation / mod wheel. Percussion instruments, strings, synths all benefit heavily from this.) I know a lot of people are finding a lot of bugs on the Steinberg forums ( same for the Logic forums really ) and a lot of them are using windows and having issues with windows 10. I'm still holding out on Mac with 10.9.5 and using Cubase 8.5, it's been working very well for me so perhaps it's a good combo. And man oh man, the mix console is just so sexy in Cubase - big fat meters and the panner can be directional or balance, waveform meters on top, resizable (can be huge or small and thin). One little gem I just discovered is that you can shift drag a file from MediaBay to a region on the arrange view and can replace all of the same regions on the page. I often sequence drums as audio files right on the arrange screen and this is amazing for replacing kicks / snares etc.. Also Groove Agent is ridiculously good and you can use it Ableton style by just drag and dropping regions right from the arrange page to it, so many cool things about it I won't go into it. Halion is insanely good and another unsung hero - Neo Soul keys!!! Hands down the best Rhodes instrument out there, I have a Rhodes and this literally sounds that good.
  14. Yeah I totally understand how you feel, it honestly took months to get cozy with it and I resisted it for over a year even though fellow producers/composers kept trying their best to talk me into it. After using for a while it really feels like they've taken some of the best things from Pro Tools ( audiosuite fx & playlists & region gain shortcuts ), Reaper ( macro key commands ), Ableton ( clip info settings like transpose & gain & warp ), and Logic ( channel strip settings, folder tracks, plug in management etc... ). It still doesn't have flex time (warp) view on the arrangement page so that's a big plus for Logic. I suppose I'm used to Ableton, which only shows warping in clip view.
  15. After months of flirting with Cubase Pro 8 I have to say, it truly might be the most advanced DAW out there for music production. I've been a Logic devotee since version 6 and have been hoping Apple would bring Logic Pro X to a place where it is as responsive as Ableton / Pro Tools / Cubase / Reaper when editing and dealing with audio. The new update looked promising and I gave a strong go, it's definitely a bit better but still not even in the same league as those other apps as far as audio responsiveness. I'm just kind of amazed that Apple, with all of their money and resources, don't make this better. Believe me, I really didn't want to explore any other super DAW (I use Ableton as well but don't consider it a super DAW) because I know Logic like the back of my hand and have invested years of work into creating Channel strip settings / presets / templates etc.. But after coming back from Ableton / Pro Tools / Cubase constantly I just grew tired of Logic's old engine and lack of responsiveness when dealing with audio. For laying down midi quick and easy / track stacks with macro controls / and the bundled sounds and instruments / score notation - Logic kicks serious ass. But after spending a few months with Cubase and adapting all of my Logic key commands and gestures, I'm just blown away by how advanced it is. It's really fast and still handles multi-core distribution better than Logic. For a long time Cubase wasn't as friendly on Mac but now with version 8 that has changed. It honestly feels like what I wanted Logic 9 to evolve into, I love Logic 9.1.5 on snow leopard ( who doesn't ? ). In Cubase the audio editing is insanely good, midi editing is second to none, unlimited tracks, non-destructive offline fx processing history, the mix console is incredible, macro key commands - I could go into all the features but I'm sure there are a million threads about that so I'm already being redundant in writing this. The new GUI was always a bit too dark for my taste as well, yes I did do some GUI modding / pimping - but having to fix that with each new update is a king size drag. I encourage any power Logic user to give Cubase test drive if you find yourself frustrated by Logic's limitations when editing audio. I've been using Mainstage with midi over the IAC bus and audio routed through Soundflower in an aggregate device to access all of my Logic sounds and presets. It works very well and can easily automate plug in parameters / smart controls etc... So I'm loving Mainstage right now, mapping multiple parameters to a smart control knob is so easy and the parameter scaling is slick - Cubase doesn't quite have that yet as far as I know. I'll also add that I found Logic X 10.2 to be much more responsive on OS X 10.9.5 than 10.10, everything feels more responsive on Mavericks than Yosemite - the graphics got pretty sluggish. Also, my Yosemite Time Machine back up worked just fine when restoring Mavericks. I really am just longing for that good old speed and snappiness that we all know and love from Logic 9.1.5 on snow leopard, Cubase is feeling pretty close to that on 10.9.5. If you're being creative making music and loving the Logic zone then you're in a good place! Don't listen to anything I just said
