  1. Thanks much Andrew-appreciate it. I figured that was the case, and find it bizarre something so simple isn't an option. I do like your idea of patch targets and buttons. Keyboard Maestro actually does some basic Midi, and that might be a great solution since I'll need to do this again and can plan more ahead. As it was, I ended up just scrolling with my giant keypad. Thanks again!
  2. I know this should be simple... Just want to select patches within my concert set using my Macbook Air's built in qwerty keyboard, or using an external USB big lighted number keypad. E.G: hit the 2 key for patch 2, 3 key for patch 3 etc. I've normally done midi program change from my controller. But need to do it from the Qwerty on this gig- as I can't from the Hammond Clonewheel I'm using. What am I missing???? I've reset the patch numbers, is it a Mainstage or OSX thing? I can use the up/down keys but all other keypresses of numbers just flash. Shouldn't these be mapped automatically? I was able to use Keyboard Maestro to re-map the +/- keys to up and down on the USB keypad but that's about it. Of course I've got a TV taping on Monday and Tuesday, so appreciate any advice. Thanks so much in advance! C
  3. Thanks so much Christian- Apple script normally makes me go in fetal position and hide- but those look very easy to copy and implement. I appreciate it.
  4. You bet. Correct: Midi only for the USB. And forgive me for being obvious, it's Nord audio out to Duet line inputs. There are some synths that have built in convertors (Roland Boutique) that actually can do both audio and midi over USB- but the Nord, like many others is strictly Midi and data. If you get adventurous later on, you can also use the free Nord Sound manager program to upload more piano libraries into your Nord with that same cable. Not sure which Duet you have- but some USB audio interfaces also have conventional MIDI jacks, though that's fallen out of favor.
  5. Correct. It's easy to be confused- They're technically both digital, but easier to think as Audio being sound, and Midi simply being information about that sound. Midi makes no sound on it's own. You can record both in Logic. Much like words or picture to the printed page- once Audio is committed it's mostly finite*, whereas with Midi you can continue to edit your performance/recording. In the Ye old days we could only record Midi into what were called Sequencers (now called DAWs). The Sequencer (hardware or program) would record Midi information- this was way before you could record audio- and you'd have to have a physical keyboard or module to produce the sound and a Midi Cable. Many members here know the history better than me, but Logic actually started it's early days as a sequencer program from Emagic - and it ran on PC too. Like many other modern keyboards controllers, the USB cable serves as Midi cable- not Audio. You can commit the audio from your Nord (the 1/4inch jacks) to an audio track in Logic. You're then hearing the Audio from Logic (and the Duet), not from the Nord After recording said audio track, If you disconnect the Nord (or simply turn down the volume) you'll still hear the audio track. If you send Midi to the Nord, (via that cable) you'll be hearing audio from the Nord. If you send or play Midi to a Logic internal synth- you'd also hear from the Duet. Hope that helps! David's book does a much better job of explaining, and highly recommended.
  6. I'm sure it's the same on the Grand: as I regularly do on my Nord Stage and Electro's, you should be able to just use the usb out on your Nord as a midi interface if your Duet doesn't have one. The Nord will show up as a new port in Logic. You can then record audio and midi at the same time. I do this often with (Midi'd) analog synths, - always good to have the musical data in case you want to easily copy the part to another instrument or need to re-do later.
  7. Thank you all for the great replies- David I pulled your wonderful book out again last night- and just saw that normalize gain feature. That & the floating window should help greatly. Schlomo - Thank you. My other life in Finale depends on hundreds of Keyboard Maestro macros to make up for Finale's user-hostile lack of useful shortcuts. Though I use a ton of reassigned key commands within Logic, you inspired me to start using Maestro more to start nesting actions and those key commands in macros. I do normally have most of my stuff ready to go in templates, but this week had a bunch of sessions from other folks. I have must say, this site is always such a great and peaceful community versus some of the other let's say "lively" audio/music forums. Thanks again gentlemen!!!
  8. Hoping you kind souls can help me: 1.Please tell me a better way: When adding a buss/FX send, I choose empty buss, add my FX to said buss, then to go back to the channel & bring up the little blue knob to send X amount to the buss. Is there any way to have the send default to a set value (e.g -11.1) and enabled anytime inserting a buss.? Sorry I searched, and could swear I saw something about this once. This is a carpal tunnel nightmare. Is it better to do from the mixer view? 2. Secondly- With some client projects, I'm constantly having to adjust clip gain on tracks. It's open inspector, adjust, close. repeat constantly. Is the floating inspector still the only way in 2020 to get quicker access to clip gain than the regular inspector? Thank you so much in advance for any advice!! Cheers, C
  9. Oh well. Guess I'll stand in line and submit a feature request and at least make a x-pose macro that opens the editor then performs the keystroke. Thank you much for the reply David, have been learning lots from your posts, and look forward to your book. Cheers, C
  10. Hi everyone- thanks for a great forum. I'm a performer-pro tools (and sonar!) refugee and jumped in with both feet and loving Logic. 1. I searched the forum, net and manual, and seems this question often comes up but is never fully answered: I see that in order to x-pose a midi region you can use key commands, but only after opening the piano roll. Please correct me: is there a simple way to just select the region and use a key command to perform this without having to open the piano roll editor, or go to the track header? 2. Is there a key command to simply duplicate a track and it's contents)? I know you can option-drag the track header to do this, just looking for a keyboard option. I'm used to using a macro program to mimic mouse selection (do this a lot in Finale) but hoping these seemingly simple tasks are already do-able before I write a macro. BTW: http://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/is a great macro program to simplify redundant mouse/keystrokes. MANY THANKS in advance!
