  1. I'm a bit late at the game, but it seems that the old Mac Pro is still of fashion… Mac Pro 2013 (6,1), 12-core, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD. Logic Pro X 10.4.8, 128 samples I/O buffer, Medium processing buffer: 115 tracks before overload. Sustained, no degradation. Paolo
  2. David, thank you very much! I'm sure you already gave me this answer in the past, but I couldn't find it. And still can't find it in the official documentation. I must append a post-in in front of my monitor! Paolo
  3. Hi, I know I've done this in the past, but since I can't find a way maybe it was not in Logic. What I would like to do is this: 1) Enter some notes. 2) Select the first one. 3) Play the note you want the selected note to become. 4) Continue with the following notes (the following note is already selected after you repitch the first one). Is this possible with Logic? There is nothing I can see in the documentation, and trying it in the program was not successul. Thank you! Paolo
  4. Thank you very much, everybody, for the very interesting answers. Paolo
  5. Hi, While planning to use VSL's Vienna Ensemble Pro (VEP) with Logic, I had to use the Environment to create MIDI Instruments/Multi-Instruments connected to Software Instrument matching the VEP's instances. I had not used the Environment for a long time, and had to see that it is a part of the software that has not gone under the same deep revision as the rest. The look of channel strips and objects is still the pre-X one. I found the same name-scrambling bug in the Multi-Instrument objects I found twenty years ago. Does this mean that there are other ways of doing the same thing, without using the Environment? Is this part an atrophying organ? Or, it is still an irreplaceable part of the software, that has simply not received the needed care? Paolo
  6. Hi, I'm trying to use the Xsample Extended Edition instruments with Logic Pro X 10.4. I created my Articulation Sets, to select the Presets in Xsample. Each Articulation ID in my set sends a single CC#0 value, corresponding to the Preset's number. Unfortunately, this does freezes Logic for as long as the music plays. The window stops responding, and the spinning balls appears in the display. Logic is free again when the music (and the flow of Articulations) ends. I don't have the same problem with VSL's Vienna Instruments Pro, nor with Kontakt + Spitfire LCO Strings, nor the Standard version of the Xsample library. I'm also posting a log excerpt from the Mac's Console, with messages sent out when the problem happens. Do they mean something for you? Thank you for your help! Paolo Please find below some excerpts from the messages Logic is sending to the Mac’s Console when the freeze happens. Maybe you can see something useful. 7. David, it works! The double-click is probably the only thing I didn't try! Thank you very much! Paolo
  8. Hi, I'm sure I've done this in the past, and I'm sure this is a basic technique that nobody needs to be explained. But I'm not being able to find how it works. What I want to do: In the Piano Roll, select a note, and play a different pitch on a MIDI keyboard. The note takes the pitch of the note just played on the keyboard. Clicking on the MIDI IN icon on top of the Piano Roll editor only activated the Step Input. The selected note is left unchanged. How can I change the selected note? Thank you for your help! Paolo
  9. Volovicg, very reassuring! So, I can put a whole opera libretto in a region name! Paolo
  10. Region names can be quite long, with this system, but it depends on what I have to write down. I try to be as concise as possible. If possible, I like to make the Annotation regions last approximately as much as the musical situation they are describing. A region can be shorter (or longer) than its name. I also use the Text object in the Score for other types of annotation (for example, when detail on articulations is required). However, it would not be very useful for a timeline/storyline-type of annotation. Paolo
  11. I use markers for, er, marking sections. These not always match the place where I need annotations for describing musical situations. But I could for sure make both types of markers cohexist, maybe using some text, er, marker (like square brackets) to differentiate them. But I admit that playing with blocks (regions), so similar to stickies or index cards, makes me feel I am building music. Much more than shifting markers in the ruler. This type of 'sticky' can also be moved everywhere in the other tracks, as placeholders for a specific situation relating to a particular track. Paolo http://www.studio-magazine.com/pics/logic/logic-colors.png
  12. I don't use them, because I use notes in a different way than the reason track notes where conceived for. Track notes are not time-positioned. Regions are. Therefore, I can use regions as placemarkers, with notes relative to a particular position in the piece. They a little like a novel timeline, with stickies placed where things must happen. Paolo
  13. Hi, I have a track, in the Arrange, devoted to text annotations. Annotations, like "Concitated passage of interconnected string crescendos, ending with full orchestral stabs", are written in the name of a MIDI region. Can the long name of regions cause troubles? At the moment, it seems that Logic is digesting them well, but I wonder if this unplanned use can in the end be problematic. Best, Paolo
  14. I'll try to file a request. Who knows… Paolo
  15. Eric, thank you very much for the hint! What I'm trying to do is a bit different than what you could do with markers. Markers are for general annotations on a point in the piece, while I'm looking for something more local. For example, I might have a draft piano score for woodwinds, and a draft piano score for strings running in parallel. I would need to add an annotation next to the notes that will be played by the flute and oboe, to say that I want interleaved notes from these two instruments. At the same time, I should write that violins will play with sordino, and violas have to play ribattuto on the same note. I need something like post-its. It seems that I can only have them as single-line notes. Paolo
