  1. Hi David, Actually I hadn't seen the Master fader for a while! You were right, its was set low. I set to zero and pulled all the other tracks down. Now the meters match. Good knowledge. Thanks again. GMP24
  2. Hi, For a multitrack session, no individual tracks clipping, the sum output channel level is in the green and sounds okay. Never goes above 0dB. If I put a plug-in meter on the output channel, it shows clipping in the red (see screenshot). Can anyone explain why this is please. If I bounce a segment and reopen in a new Logic session, again putting a plug-in meter on the output strip, the levels are consistent i.e. output strip levels are similar to the plug-in meter levels and no clipping. Can anyone help on this please? Was the signal in the session really clipping as indicated by the plug-in meter or is the channel strip meter a true level. Perhaps I'm missing what's being monitored in the two cases. Many Thanks, GMP24 Logic 10.0.7 (to be upgraded soon) OS 10.14.6 Mojave MacBook Pro 2014, 2.2GHz, 16Gb
  3. Thanks Mania, fisherking, Certainly demos and idea sessions could be needed in the future. Some days I think going to a new computer system and keeping the old (two systems) may be easier. But expensive. I like to think I can keep utilising what I have to the max but be able to bring up those ideas from the past when required. GMP24
  4. Hi, Thanks for that. Just before I do this, should previous sessions open okay in the new version and should any logic instruments/sounds/settings remain the same within those settings. Does the new program install a completely new Logic instrument set? Thanks Triplets, GMP24
  5. Hi, Upgrading Logic to a newer version (I am running Mojave 10.14.6) on my MacBook. App store recommends 10.7.4 To avoid any issues, I have compressed and backed up the version I am using. Is it a simple case of downloading the new version and it should work? Will old sessions be compatible? Plug-ins, VI's? If there are issues (hopefully not) is it simply a case of reinstating the old Logic version? Many Thanks, GMP24

  7. Hi, Hope someone can help. I occasionally convert Drummer tracks/regions to MIDI so I can edit out certain things (e.g. constantly repeated cymbal crashes which imply it's a looped phrase). So I used to do this by creating a new software instrument track, selecting the same kit and then dragging the Drummer region into it. The drums then appear as MIDI notes which I can edit in the Piano Roll. This has worked fine up till now (recently done an OS upgrade). Just noticed a problem with this on one project. 1. When I do this, now the created drum pattern changes. Different fills appear and it is not the same as the original drummer regions. 2. Each region I drag seems to loop for many bars which I don't want. Any ideas how to stop this? Screen shot shows the regions I am trying to generate MIDI from. Thanks in anticipation. 8. Hi, Thanks very much for your reply. I spent ages setting up a fresh session today and documenting all the issues to help diagnose the problem. However I think I may have found the solution! After very confusing assignments and definitely control going to MIDI CC's (as shown in Events page), I started to look at Controller Assignments a bit more. If I simply select Command L in Kontact Host Automation and then click on a parameter (e.g. Dynamics), then move a slider, it does assign correctly (see screenshot). Now when i record the automation I get a normal looking region and I can see the individual lanes for Dynamics, Vibrato, Expression etc. as assigned. Kontact even shows a red light for the relevant slider activity (see screenshot). I can now go in and edit my automation as required. Gosh, many hours trying to solve this but your reply put me on the right track. Thank you. Its great to have such good folk to assist. And yes I will get round to upgrading Logic latest. GMP24.
  9. Just been through a painful OS upgrade which is now okay thankfully and not got round to upgrading Logic yet. My intention is to but I'm in the middle of a project and don't want to tempt fate. As a side question should all my old sessions work fine in upgraded Logic or are there potential issues? I did wonder if this may be contributing to the automation issue.
  10. Hi, This could be fairly basic but I can't find a way to do this. So I'm running Logic 10.0.7, Macbook Pro with OS Mojave. Getting to grips with Orchestral libraries and have a few that run in Kontact Player. So I can assign parameters (e.g. Dynamics, Expression etc.) to sliders on my Oxygen88 Keyboard. I do this by dragging the automation channel to the relevant parameter and then getting Logic to learn that control. I can then record and it records the automation as I play. It plays back with the automation read. Here's the problem. The track shows the Midi notes and what appears to be an amalgamated automation display as bars (as per screenshot). I was expecting to see automation as lines I could then go in and edit as I normally do with Logic software instruments. It appears I can write new automation with the pen tool but not edit the data that I recorded. Am I doing something wrong here? Some questions: 1) Note in the Automation Tab of Kontact there is a Host Automation tab with parameter numbers and there is also a MIDI automation tab with MIDI CC numbers. I've tried automating both (mapping a number to a parameter in Kontact player) and get the same result, a bar graph of the automation i record. To be clear, which is the correct setting to use? 2) Could this be an incompatibility with an older version of Logic and newer Kontact Players? 3) Another quirk is assigning CC's to the parameters in Kontact e.g. CC1 or 2, I find Kontact then decides to add higher CC numbers (like 75, 76) in a seemingly random way to the same parameters and these then become active (red light against the CC number in Kontact when moving the mapped fader). I have no idea what's happening with that. Any Ideas? Many Thanks.
  11. Thanks Triplets, Shall check out these drives. They look very fast! G. --
  12. Hi, I am wanting to run an orchestral library off a SSD to my 2015 MacBook Pro. Now I have a free Thunderbolt 2 port and also a USB 3.0 A little digging led me to the conclusion that although TB2 is theoretically faster than USB 3.0 (20Gbps c.f. 5 Gbps) or I guess roughly in MBps that's going to be 2.5GBps (TB2) c.f. ~625MBps (USB3.0), the transfer speed may be limited (bottleneck) by the drive speed itself (probably around 550MBps. Is this the correct conclusion? and if so, is there any point in trying to get a TB2 link working given that there seem to be no TB2 SSD's out there (that I can find) and the alternative might be trying to cobble together a TB3 Drive-Dock-TB3/2 Adapter link to connect to the MBP anyway. Is it just easier to use USB3.0 to a compatible SSD. Whats the fastest way to arrange things on my machine? And also what's the most cost effective solution? I welcome your advice.
  13. Thank you both for your comments. Definitely some things to think about. I will try both I think but your thoughts are very welcome. Another up-front question. How would you efficiently handle a set list in Logic and launching each song/track?
  14. Hi, I have a basic question. I am a (so far) studio musician, looking to do some live work. Currently using LogicPro. I play keyboards. Aim: To reproduce some of my Logic Session tracks but play the main keyboard parts live. So I need my computer to play the Drum, bass and guitar parts as session. Keyboards would be a mix of software (Logic) sounds and dedicated outboard stage piano/synths. So do I need Mainstage for this or just Logic? Can both do this job? What are the advantages to either? No experience of Mainstage. Currently using a Focusrite Sapphire interface in the studio. Really appreciative of help. Thank You. GMP24
  15. Hi, I need to upgrade my OS and Logic. Been meaning to do it for a while and never got round to it. I am asking this question again in case things have changed in the last few years with latest versions. Plus I am pushing the limits of my original set-up and would welcome advice on the best locations of programs and memory use. So advice please> Currently running Logic 10.0.7 on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.4) for a few years with no problems. I backup to Timemachine everyday and I do have a zipped copy of Logic in my Apps folder. My machine is a 16Gb, 2.2GHz I7 MacBook Pro It's Apple MGXA2B/A, 2014 MacBook Pro Advice please on: 1) What would be the safest upgrade for OS? And will my machine handle it (see also 5 below)? 2) What is safest upgrade for Logic? Again, latest version (would I see huge changes?) or a previous (but newer for me) version? 3) Best order of upgrades? e.g. OS first, Logic second? 4) If I hit issues is it a case of just restoring (through Timemachine) to a previous workpoint? 5) I only have ~7.5Gb of 250Gb Internal Hard Drive free (about half of the drive has audio/Logic stuff on it). I have two external drives for backup and sample libraries (about 1Tb each). To date I have kept my internal drive for all Logic/audio and kept a separate drive (conventional) for Timemachine backup and another separate drive (SSD) for sample libraries. What would you recommend for future working given that I will need to update Logic and OS? Is it still good practice to have Logic on my internal drive (e.g. for speed) and would it be worth moving old Logic sessions/audio to another drive to free up space on my internal drive and keep Logic there? I would very much welcome your thoughts for a safe passage. Thank You GMP24
