  1. I'm sorry but I don't see how all that is relevant, so I kindly refuse. Im using Logic Pro X and I'm pretty sure that's more than enough to help me. I'm guessing it's not possible based on the responses..?
  2. This does indeed turn the track into a lighter shade of grey, but will still not have the behaviour I mentioned. When I do this, and add a note with CMD-click the note will still be added to the harp-region.
  3. Hi guys, Usually you guys were really helpful in the past, so here's another question In a multitrack software instrument piece, when selecting multiple regions, you can see them all in the piano roll. However, when I subsequently try to add a note in a specific region (e.g. by using command click to draw notes), I encounter a problem. It seems that you always add notes to the region where notes were last added. I for example have 2 regions, a harp and a flute. I first made a little harp strummy thing, and then wanted to add a flute to it without losing view of the notes played by the harp. (that last bit is the main issue). So I added a flute region, selected both this and the harp-region, and then hit P. Now I've got them both in the piano roll, right? But when I next try to add notes, they are always harp notes (whatever order I click, or whatever track is currently selected). Now, this workflow would be absolutely amazing to have in Logic, as it is standard for other software like cubase (and even FL-studio!!), but it seems like Logic doesn't really fit in. Does anybody have a solution for this?
  4. Hi guys, Some guy named Mike at EW-support helped me out! The trick is to manually uninstall EW-Play and then installing it again. This way, you'll have to set the paths to your libraries all over again, but at least your computer also know where to find stuff now! Thanks a ton Mike! PS Here is his original reply to my question for those in the future who run into the same problem: Please try this: Go to soundsonline.com/support and grab the latest version of PLAY (4.3.3). Then uninstall PLAY manually by going to Macintosh HD >> Library >> Application Support and deleting the "East West" Folder. If you own QL Spaces, please be sure to delete everything in that folder but the QL Spaces folder. Then restart your Mac, empty the trash and install the PLAY 4.3.3 update. Then open PLAY and set up your sample paths in the Favorites window. 1) Go to the browser menu in Play and locate the favorites window in the bottom left above the keyboard and control + click on the product title and choose to "set product library directory". If no entry exists for your product, control + click in the favorites window and choose "add another product library". 2) Navigate to the product title's Instrument folder and click choose. http://media.soundsonline.com/video/...orites.mp4.zip Then download and install the library updates from soundsonline.com/support.
  5. Hi guys, I've recently upgraded to OS X El Capitan, and I've got some issues with files containing EWQL Play instruments (which are basically, all my files). I get the error "Reading MidiPlayer data failed" (see image). When I click the Play plugin after closing the error, a "fresh" Play window opens, which doesn't remember which instrument it used to have. If I just reload the instruments it work fine, but the problem is that I don't know exactly which patch I used on every track... In other words: It would be nice to uncover which patches where loaded on a track. Is there any way to workaround this error? Does anyone know why it cant find the MidiPlayer data? Where should it be stored? If not, is there ANY way to find out exactly WHICH instrument the Play plugin used before? I've tried using "grep" on the metadata in the package contents, but to no avail. Any other suggestions?
  6. I had the same problem before. Fore me it was not a performance issue, but a problem with the sustain pedal. Are there multiple regions in your track? If so, check if the sustain pedals are correctly back to 0 where needed. To make sure it resets, you can start your region that hangs with a 0-sustain pedal signal, and it won't hang. If you actually have the same problem that is. Im not sure about your second problem, though.
  7. Hi guys, Im using a very cheesy high-pass filter by animating the standard EQ in logic. However, I want to be able to "set" de initial conditions, and work from that onwards by using touch / latch. However, when I change e.g. the High-cut frequency and play the sequence, the High-cut automatically gets reset to whatever it was. (i.o.w. it never really registered the change I made while NOT playing) Can you somehow manually trigger a write? Thanks! PS I know I can just move the values in the automation editor too, but thats not what I'm looking for right now.
  8. Thanks for your comment, Mike! Nice to see your perspective on this. I'm still a bit confused about the theory , but will indeed just go for it!
  9. Hi all, Usually when I write a composition, I work "top-down"; I write a nice chord-progression and then come up with a melody. To challenge myself a bit more, I now wrote a piece of harmonic melodies first (counterpoint), and then decided which chords would fit. Now I find myself with the following, which confuses me (see picture). I figured that writing in A minor would make things easy for me on the piano (yes I'm lazy). However, the dominant melody line has an accidental C# in bar 4. The chord that felt natural to add there is A-major, but theory-wise this doesn't make any sense to me. However, I've only done some basic musical theory classes, so maybe I'm just confused for nothing. So to formulate 2 questions: Does the A-major chord fit in here? Or is it secretely a C# minor with a minor sixt and suspended 5th? Is there any consensus on what chords you use with accidentals, or is it so just anything that feels natural?
  10. I've been looking for the option you described, but couldn't find anything alike. Anyone knows? Found it! Because I just hate it when you Google something and you find an unresolved forum discussion, here's how to do it: Select notes you want to change In the piano roll, go to functions -> MIDI-transform, and select an existing preset like "Fixed velocity" Change the fixed dropdown option to "scaled", and drag it down to e.g. 50%. To keep the notes in the same position, shift the bottom option up a bit (or just move them up after downscaling). Save the preset if you want, since by default there is no scaling preset Thanks, Jope!
  11. Hi all, I know this sounds like a question already posted, but I couldnt quite find what I was looking for in the old topics. I often find myself in the following situation: I have a set of notes which vary from velocity 80-120, and then I wish to decrease the differences (without undoing all the differences). In other words, I want to "squeeze" them vertically, so that the ranges in velocity span e.g. 95-105. One way is sometimes do this is by setting them all to 100, then using Humanize to randomize the velocities again. However, the velocities are non-random, and should be exactly like they are, just less so. Thanks in advance! PS Its probably not relevant but Im using OS X Yosemite and Logic Pro X
  12. Thanks a lot J., works like a charm!
  13. Hi guys, Im trying to make a standard logic X track stack (sum) that plays two different sounds: a harpsichord and strings. For this, I'd like the harpsichord to be picked up by my sustain pedal, but the strings should just ignore it. Is this possible? (if so, how?) Thanks very much!!
  14. Hi there, I somehow expected that this would be easy to find online, but I'm looking for a good example project of orchestration using only Logic X inbuild libraries (for me that's just the quickest way to learning stuff). Note that I don't refer to a template; i know how to put orchestration together. However, I just want to gain some insight into Logic-ish tricks, mixing, and layering. If anybody has anything like this, that would be awesome!
  15. Well... just one more minor issue: whenever i change something, I need to unpack the macro. When I do, no matter how I rewire it to the Input-Notes, it won't give me back any sound... Any ideas? ! not even if I undo the macro-unpacking with cmd+Z :S ! It seems like the input has become unresponsive, as MIDI IN at the top never signals any notes... [EDIT: Solved] Somehow I had to rewire the input back as well... sorry!
