  1. Option to Bounce an instrument region in place and have rendered audio appear and play back in the same instrument track. That way you lessen cpu load without creating an additional audio track in the arrange window. Also, have a check box to enable flex on the rendered audio region so it can follow tempo chances without having to render again. Then have an option to rerender all rendered midi regions in case drastic tempo changes are made and when you are ready to mix down. Alternatively I could see this as a "freeze regions" option. Instead of freezing an entire track, it freezes only selected regions. Again, it would be convenient if the frozen regions could follow tempo changes up to a certain point without having to render again.
  2. If this is for a theory class, I would say your teacher will be happier if you tied the C into the 2nd measure instead of leaping to the E. You've got A minor for the 1st 2 beats. But in beat 3 and 4, you're sort of starting to pass into C, but you're not going to the dominant, which is what you're teacher will be expecting you to do. I think it would make your theory teacher happier if you dropped your bass voice to the G in beat 3, had your middle voice move to E on beat 4 and then dropped your Bass to C on beat 1 of measure 2 and stayed on the C in your soprano voice for beat 1 of measure 2. I haven't taken a counterpoint class in 10 years, so don't hold me to it though.
  3. Sorry, just reading your post again and you already know how to go into edit. I'm not sure if there is a faster way. I've never used that feature of creating a new exs from a region. I usually use Kontakt for creating sampler instruments when I've made my own.
  4. Click edit on the ex gui. Select the little bar above the note on the keyboard in the edit window and stretch it in either direction.
  5. Not that I can think of (although I don't use a whole lot of pre recorded loops anyway). but loops are typically in very common meters since they're usually pretty common to use in pop music. I think that stylus allows you to do some pretty cool things with changing the meter of their loops from within the plugin...
  6. I don't use it, but I bet the step input keyboard would probably be good for what you want to do.
  7. I've had some problems opening older files as well. They seem to crash when loading Kontakt for me. I usually just keep trying and eventually Logic X manages to open the project without crashing. I think that it remembers the new location of the Kontakt samples it crashed on before, and then gets a little further in opening the project each time... Sorry I don't have anything else for you.
  8. You have the loop check box ticked. Top of the inspector window under mute.
  9. That's weird. Just import everything into a new project. Sometimes projects just go bonkers. See if that works. When I'd beat map (especially if I had a project starting before beat 1), I'd have some similar issues. But that was back in Logic 9. I haven't had it happen in X.
  10. If it's midi, select the notes and use the octave up key command. If it's audio, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish creatively. If you want it to sound natural, you'll want to replay it up an octave. If you want it to add a lot of effects to the doubled part and have it sound weird and maybe cool, use a pitch shifter and try shifting the formant, delaying it from the lower part, low cutting it, panning it, etc.
  11. I've used Logic since version 8 and I typically score short form things and I almost always just do 1 cue or track per picture. I normally import the movie audio into logic and I have a hardware fader that I've dedicated to controlling the volume of the voice over track. I'm now scoring a feature-length project. I set the movie start time to 01:00:00:00 in my project template. Then for each cue I score, I save a new project and set the project synchronization accordingly (is this the best workflow?) If I attempt to import the audio from the movie, Logic lines up the audio with the project start. So the imported audio starts from the beginning no matter where in the film I'm scoring. So, my solution so far has been to not import the audio from the movie, but to adjust the volume in the movie settings window, but that means that I lose the ability to control the movie volume with a fader. Also, the movie audio will drop out whenever I drag a region, adjust automation or region data, etc. I also tried cutting the movie file into segments based on the cues. But, I like to be able to go back and see at least a few seconds of the movie before the cue starts. I've thought about using a separate program like Streamers and then maybe routing the movie audio and logic to an analog mixer to fix the volume dropout problem, but with that program, the movie doesn't sync unless I'm playing back...if I'm just rewinding or moving forward/backwards by a frame, the movie stays exactly where it is. (any other suggestions for external programs that might have all of the functionality of playing the video directly in Logic?) So, my question is, what workflow is best? I tend to like to adjust the volume of the VO a lot when I'm scoring. I'll like to have it there while I listen to the overall impression of the picture with score, and then I like to quickly fade it out so I can hear the score alone. I'm hoping Ski or someone else with scoring experience can answer. I've seen that with DP you can route movie audio into your project through busses. That seems like it would be really nice. I don't have Pro Tools, but I've heard that some composers run the movie in the Pro Tools computer where they also print stems. Is that a good solution? Which version of Pro Tools would be need to accomplish this set up?
  12. I'm not exactly sure how to word this question and I may not use all of the correct Logic terminology. When I set my time signature to x/2, it seems that logic continues to use a quarter note as the basis for the number of beats per minute. So for example, if I set the signature to 3/2 and the tempo to 80, it would play at half the speed you would expect it to when conducting in 3/2 at a tempo of 80 bpm. To get the correct tempo, I have to raise the bpm in Logic to 160. Now, in the score editor, I can put a half not equals symbol and Logic knows the value is 80. But my question is, is there a way to get Logic to display the correct tempo at the top of the screen, as well as in the score editor? I'm attaching a screen shot, so hopefully you can see what I'm referring to. Thanks in advance!
