  1. is it just me, or have they removed the 'separate by note pitch' option? it used to be under 'midi' in the region context menu (which has now changed to 'midi' transform) apologies if its already been mentioned, I don't have time to read the whole thread right now
  2. oh yes thats the control mode select
  3. is this a thing? I knew you could select a control mode on start up but google didn't show up an option for factory reset?
  4. well its good to know its probably not the hardware. I checked in midi monitor - Logic is sending out to the MCU - the strange thing is the lights do respond when I click mute with the mouse, just not when I press the same button on the MCU (even though it does effect the channel on screen). weird just wondering - does 'Audio Midi' setup have any influence here? I always assumed it was irrelevant to logic apart from setting up AIC buses?
  5. thanks for the tips, unfortunately still no luck (lights are not reflecting whats onscreen - eg mute button will mute /unmute a track but the light stays on) have tried: -rebuild defaults -checked environment for rogue mixer items -checked pref settings -trashed prefs -tried another alternative interface think I may have to move on from this challenge, but heres my screenshots in case anything sticks out! cheers
  6. hey, thanks for replying. I'm using a pretty cheap midi>usb cable, but I've also tried another interface (iconnect) and the same problem happens. I kind of ruled that out in my head as it works perfectly in live though? I deleted all from the controller window and all controller assignments (and deleted control surface preferences) before re-adding the device on its default settings, but could post screenshot tomorrow if you think that would help good point about the mix configuration though - I often use quite a lot of stacks / hidden tracks etc. I thought I'd deleted all that stuff to get this working, but maybe theres something messing things up in the midi environment - I'll double check tomorrow. might be worth trashing the general prefs too maybe?
  7. hi! I've just dug out my old Mackie control universal (the one with just midi ports), and found its working flawlessly in another DAW (ableton) and all the controls are sending appropriate midi when checked in midi monitor.. however when I try and use it in logic there are always problems with the lights not reflecting the channel setups on screen (eg multiple select buttons lit up, record lights not reflecting the arrange page etc). I have tried removing the .cs preference file and even tried it on an alternative computer with the latest logic but the problem still exists. I have no other control surfaces installed (from experience I know that often confuses logic!) I'm using Logic Pro 10.5.1 and mackie control version 2.12 I've tried it in both Mackie control mode and Logic Control mode with same issues happening both times. any ideas to try before this goes back in the cupboard? cheers! Simon
  8. that makes sense David. back to smart controls. With stacks it's definitely getting closer to what I want to do (although I have still had some odd behaviour like the mackie control play button stopped working until I deleted it and re-added in setup). am I right in thinking though that it is not possible to define a custom layout (i.e. choose arrangements and types of control elements)? It looks like you can only choose from logic's own layouts? it is probably workable like that but would be nice to be able to make your own. On a side note, I've just discovered you can access smart controls on Mackie Control (shift+instrument) which is a bit of a revelation and negates the need for an extra midi controller probably thanks for your help!
  9. Ha, good to know. It’s the one thing I’d like logic to ‘steal’ from Ableton in the future!
  10. I’m going to investigate the summing stack option. I’ve found the control assignments method to be very unreliable/ confusing partly due to conflicts happening with my Mackie control and partly due to my brain probably!
  11. thanks for replying David! I've been looking at that but the problem is it seems to only work on 1 (selected) channel at a time? I'm trying to control parameters on many channels at once. Is that possible with smart controls?
  12. Hello! is it possible to setup a knob controller for multiple midi parameters to be tweaked simultaneously across multiple tracks and busses without coming into constant conflicts with Mackie Control or being forced to tweak only one track at a time? I want to be able to make live improvisations whereby I can tweak any parameter from a selection I have pre-decided on all from one controller device I know that this is extremely easy to do in Ableton but Logic is my main sequencer so if this is feasible I'd much prefer to do it here instead (and ditch ableton live) rather than having to switch between. I've spent some time trying to get it working but it keeps making me want to bash my head against a brick wall!! any help appreciated! (even if its: forget it use ableton for that!) cheers! Simon
