  1. Two things I'd clarify: 1. When you create new Instruments / Add new Libraries, do you place the .exs files into the following folder: Users / [uerrname]/ Music / Audio Music Apps / Sampler Instruments ? I believe you too could place them in MacHD/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments -- the old way 2. Do you have Spotlight Enabled and is the External Drive Indexed in order to find the samples? They can generally be anywhere, though I might include an alias or symbolic link to the relocated EXS Factory Samples (where I house those included with Logic, my own, and Third Party Libraries.) However, I have separate Music Drives for Loops/Clips and often the likes of Loopmasters includes EXS Instruments. Since all my Drives are indexed, Logic knows where to find the samples even though they are not in the previously mentioned Folder. If you follow these two steps, you shouldn't have any problems loading EXS Instruments.
  2. No one has mentioned you're using both the Multipressor & Logic's Platinum together, essentially the same compression flavor I believe (or perhaps I should state "lack-of-flavor.") It might be a good idea to consider using one of the VCA models (particularly the dbx) or Opto Model with or without Light Distortion, Medium - Long Attack since you already are using the Multipressor. The FETs provide great harmonics; however, they might be the best choice on the Master. The Vintage VCA (SSL) is a little over-the-top regarding IMD in some cases, though the Studio could work. However, the Classic model is the cleanest for the 2-Bus. I'd choose this one over the Opto too -- unless I wanted more vibe, not less. You could adjust the dbx's Attack in Controls View. It's fixed at 10ms in Editor View (like the original 163) -- though perhaps 15-20ms would work.
  3. I agree to some degree, though there are so many features I very much appreciate in Ableton that complement LPX. The experience is really quite awesome. I had no reason to purchase Live Suite, so went with Standard, and in addition to its outstanding WARPing / Sound design functionality thanks to the beautiful integration of the elastique algos, Session View's workflow is a truly well implemented sketchpad. I often perform a one time rewire into LPX from Session View as the other side comes into play: as much as I love the front end workflow, so to speak, I cannot deal with its Arranger, though I am slowly but surely (somewhat) warming up to it more given the interconnectivity. Logic is almost to the PT status as regards its Mixer & Arranger, similar to Cubase, and it further has its own workflow issues that actually are quite good, in addition to a fleet of plugins you might just purchase separately. Space Designer, Delay Designer, Alchemy of course, and many others make Sound Design, Track & Region Automation, Mixing, and even Mastering quite simple comparatively. Ableton does have the Rack Concept down pat, plus its own integrated fleet of plugins that are quite good, so we're fortunate to live in world where we can work with two, and not with too much difficulty. I will stress that tooling around in Live reeks of creativity, and it's Drum Racks are somewhat akin to LPX's various Drummers. It would be cool if the team integrated GB's Live Loops (Session View) and tweaked the file browser / loop library to work with the FLEX algos, similar to how Ableton has implemented the elastique algos with its browser, so while I certainly would not turn the features down, they are not priority one for me. Ableton is a Tool that can be a platform, just as LPX is a Platform that can be a tool. This goes all the way back to the genesis of Ableton's top-notch product-- it is called Live for a reason.
  4. That really should not happen, particularly as the samples are there. If they're in the Package Contents, it's another issue, but you confirmed you can see them on your drives in a folder so I can't recommend anything further. It never happens to me-- if anything, my system finds too many samples!
  5. ProjectSAM released a New Library, Swing, and it includes the following Brass (including solo, legato trumpet,) Sax, other similar. Noteworthy as it works with Player: Swing! playfully brings together the worlds of jazz and film scoring with lively big band ensembles, a groovy rhythm section and an awesome set of solo lead instruments. It offers you an incredibly diverse collection of sounds that blend together marvellously. If you compose for film, animation, games or advertisements, Swing! will undoubtedly lighten up your working day. Key features Big band ensemble articulations Brass section mutes and solo instruments Sax ensemble articulations Rhythm section includes guitars, basses and jazz drums Includes tempo sync guitar and drum grooves Script intelligently switches to half or double tempo On-screen velocity and modwheel mapping info Works with Kontakt Player Native Kontrol Standard support 35 GB library (uncompressed, takes up 18.5 GB on disk)
  6. Everyone has their preferences, but my strong vote goes to ProjectSam for the Brass Category!
  7. If they are physically on your drives, thus properly saved, do you have Spotlight properly configured?
  8. Furthermore, if you have XCode or other dev tool you can change the default colors with these line items in the plist file as follows: Root>AssetSets>Colors>Mixer> ChannelStrip_PostPanBorder ChannelStrip_PostPanFill ChannelStrip_PrePostFaderBorder ChannelStrip_PrePostFaderFill Just choose the RGB color code you'd like. I attached my set up, Green Pre / Post Fader, Darker Blue Post Pan.
  9. Have you ensured the samples (slices you made) actually exists on your drives? They generally get saved with the projects, so if in a Package file, perhaps their "stuck" inside the confines if you are operating in another, attempting to use again. If this is the case, you'll need to save the samples on your drives (wherever you chose to place the folders, actually scratch that anywhere if you have Spotlight fully engaged.) Check package contents if it is a Package; if a folder, then I'm afraid to say your say your samples were probably not saved (unless Spotlight isn't working correctly, which is a separate issue.)
  10. If you are using, for sake of argument, two drummers (either DMD or DKD,) you theoretically could just manually route the sends to one of the kit's / machine's group of buses, then delete the other's set. This way you will not lose the sub-track plugins and still retain the main tracks' chains. Try using a VCA fader to help with the mix leveling if need be -- or to help reign in both.
  11. I love that comment mpmusicny -- well said Then again if it's already been breeched, is it actually throwing caution to the wind? I say this jocularly & mpmusic gave quite sound advice, particularly if you don't know what you're doing in the guts of the OS -- and then deciding to tweak the SIP settings on the recovery partition
  12. Indeed I believe you may be correct, and potentially a more comprehensive way to address the issue (particularly if system wide -- potentially due to some aspects of SIP,) is the Terminal Command sudo /usr/libexec/repair_packages --repair --standard-pkgs --volume / that can be your best friend. I won't go into any more of a rant on this topic http://osxdaily.com/2015/11/04/verify-repair-permissions-mac-os-x/ This too could be of help: http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/mac-terminal-projects-tutorial-3613813/ I won't go into more detail on SIP for purposes of this thread, but rather leave you with this rather insightful article; note too that SIP was breeched last month I believe, though they've been feverishly working on it: https://rcmdnk.github.io/en/blog/2016/05/17/computer-mac/ "In addition, as OS X is UNIX, it has an access control of POSIX, which limits access/change authorities of each file/directory for each user. In POSIX control, basically root can access/change all files/directories."
  13. I have found just by properly setting your Spotlight Search dB, all samples will be located no matter where they are on all of your drives. It's to the point where I do not save projects in Folders if I intend to include the Library Content (of any sort, including audio clips.) Spotlight does not seek out data in the Package File's Contents (right click on the Project to see the info) with the new format; however, if you have several projects and like them self contained (i.e. with the requisite content included, not relying on your drives' main sample sets,) and you use Folders, when you go to load up a project with sampler instruments and/or Loops, you will have to choose from how ever many copies you have lurking on your ecosystem. I seriously had to choose from a list of well over a dozen audio files a few months ago, all for a really small EXS Instrument, and it got to the point that I reorganized all of my Logic Project Directories to not include the content, or to have one "Master" project that houses all content that wasn't stored elsewhere on my drives (e.g. for bounces, etc.) The problem stems from when you have different projects that access the same files, Ultrabeat Samples, EXS Sampler, or even IRs. Thus if I want the file Project to be self-contained, I choose Save as Package for the reasons mentioned. However, specifically addressing your q, check out Spotlight. I suspect everyone's "Missing EXS Samples" issues stem from this fact -- when you know the samples are in fact somewhere as you can see them. Therefore, the relocation of directories is no longer an issue as Spotlight supersedes the need to have them methodically organized as I believe it used to be back in the day. However, you need order in the chaos, and if you go the Folder route when saving projects with Sound Library/Audio content included, chaos most certainly will follow.
  14. Just a quick note, too, though i see you listed the hidden library's audio folder (~/Library) one incredibly annoying practice is that one company, Stategecoach or something like that, and the only company I've run across, places plugins here. It took me quite some time to figure this out as it was before I was up on the directories and terminal commands as I am today. Some others use the Hidden Presets directory in Audio, too. Bizarre yet "in-bounds" I suppose. Annoying nonetheless. Incidentally, I use Onyx and/or TinkerTool to always show hidden files and directories. Some might not like the clutter, I like the control.
  15. Quick question so I fully understand: I get that you cannot change the value when routed within track stacks, which you mention in effect act as VCA faders, but how about these scenarios: - No track stacks are created, however several VCAs are. Will the articulations still change if the track is assigned to one of the VCAs, though not in a track stack? - You have a track and use ARTz-ID's functionality and correctly encode the note data. What if you now add this track to a stack? Will the values remain intact? If so, this could be a remedial work-around to Jay's issue. Effectively, it would appear this solution is akin to Expression Maps, quite a major accomplishment, and I like how there are two aspects: Smart Controls & the MIDI Scripter. And it's simple!
