  1. are you absolutely sure you don't have any cracked plugins in your session? you're positive you bought them from an authorized dealer? because what you're describing sounds like an issue with cracks
  2. i'm curious, what's the RPM on your mac book pro hard drive? is it 5400 or 7200? what are you outputting sound to monitors wise? any external gear?
  3. thanks guys for the advice. I'll have to test this out a bit and see which midi protocol (ethernet vs usb) works best but after another awful session tonight where I was finishing up a track rewired through logic I will definitely find a way to make this work and will report back
  4. I'm looking for advice on what's the best way to sync Logic 9 (on my Mac Pro) with Ableton 8.2 (on my MBP) using MIDI/Ethernet/Audio Interfaces. Your first question might be, why not rewire? Well Logic and Live don't seem to get along very well performance wise in rewire, and rewire means running Logic in 32 bit and no VST/AU usage in ableton. I've also tried syncing internally via IAC, but I find the MIDI sync to be poor when done on one machine. So, what do you guys recommend to get this running smoothly and with the tightest possible timing? I have a Duet for my Mac Pro and a Mbox2 for my MBP, so I have the two audio interfaces covered, that hookup is easy for me to figure out. What i'm wondering more about is if I should do MIDI over LAN, or do MIDI via my Motu Midi interface, and basically just how to get the best results out of this setup. Can anyone help out with some advice?
  5. Fader- can't thank you enough for the help. I don't know exactly what's going on on my machine, but I copied the settings and Live is still way off. It actually sounds to me like the clock is drifting quite a bit as some clicks of the metronomes between the two programs line up, and others are quite off. I guess I'll stick to using midi clock for now For anyone else who might be looking to do this, I can't recommend this setup enough. All of the limitations of rewire are gone and this really gives you the best of both worlds. On top of that I'm able to run logic in 64 bit mode while using Live, which looks like it will let me run much bigger projects at really low buffer settings. I've got a project here loaded up with 7 instances of omnisphere, 25 space designers, and 25 instances of devastor, all cpu hogs, and logic and live are running smooth at 64 samples buffer. Pretty awesome..
  6. Fader, one last thing- do you have any suggestions for getting the MTC lined up properly? I went back and looked at my settings and actually, Live seems to be synced via MIDI beat clock and responding rather well to it, but in my experience syncing via MTC is generally more solid and reliable. The odd thing is when I attempt to sync via MTC, Live does stay in "sync", but it seems that the start point for this sync is way off. It's so off I'm having a hard time figuring out how to adjust the SMPTE offset to fix it. If you have any settings that have worked for you that you wouldn't mind sharing, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again-
  7. Fader, thanks so much that is exactly the information I was looking for. I'll test and see how things go. Do you know of any good solutions for re-routing audio within one system? I may just have to route out from live through my rosetta and back into logic. I've tried Jack OSX and Wormhole but both have a lot of latency and my impression of soundflower is that it introduces latency as well. **edit** Soundflower is actually working great with my symphony system, disregard that last part
  8. I'm looking for some advice on using IAC to sync Logic 9 and Live 8 as tightly as possible. I'm aware you can sync them using rewire, however, Live cannot access any plugins (AU, VST etc) in rewire mode, which is a major problem for me. So, I'd like to have both programs running side by side on my mac pro just using IAC sync. So far I have this set up through a IAC port with Logic as master and Live as slave. Everything sounds quite good actually and I haven't encoutered any major issues so far. Two main questions for anyone with expertise in syncing two apps on the same computer- 1) is there a way to test exactly how tight the sync is? What I mean is, everything sounds quite good, I have loops loaded up in both progs and they seem to be staying in time. But is there any method I could use to actually test just how accurately Live is slaving to Logic? I produce a lot of electronic music so if I need to delay the MTC to Live by even a few miliseconds for perfect sync, I need to know this amount. 2) Is there any way to control Logic's transport in Live? This isn't that big of a deal as my Axiom can control Logic's start stop etc whether I'm in Live or Logic, but it might be nice to hit space bar in Live and have logic stop as well. Not sure if this is possible with logic as the master and in my previous experience trying to make logic a slave to an external device, it did not go well. Any input is much appreciated!
  9. Is anyone else experiencing serious issues with 9.1.1 (32 bit) and rewire on a multi core machine? When Live 8 or Reason 4 are rewired through Logic, for some reason Logic puts all of its processes on one of my 8 cores. I'm working on a track right now where I have every audio and instrument track frozen, latency pushed up to 1024 samples, rewire on playback mode, process buffer range at large, and I literally can't get this thing to even play more than a bar or two anymore because Logic has thrown everything onto one core. I'm trying to mix the song right now so disabling plugins really doesn't make much sense. I'm wondering if this is a problem with my setup or a major issue in logic. If it is the latter it's really unacceptable. Live is also seemingly not the problem here as I have most of it's tracks frozen and its CPU meter is only hitting around 30%- I can see Live's core in my Logic CPU meter and it's not causing problems.
  10. Ski- Agreed, didn't mean the comment to sound that way. Thanks to both of you for the help! It's much appreciated
  11. Hey Ski, Thanks very much for the reply and sorry that my attachment was too big. I'll reattach here so its within the guidelines. I'm suspecting the engineer for this song, since it was a pretty big record, wouldn't bounce stereo simply because he didn't know how to do mono, though I could be wrong. As you can see in the screenshot below, the tracks contain a very small amount of stereo info so far as I can see, and they don't look 100% identical but yes very close. Any advice you have on checking that out is much appreciated. Thanks-
  12. Ok I should know the answer to this, but I just want to make sure I'm not making any incredibly obvious or stupid mistakes on a remix I'm working on... I was given vocal stems for this remix- two stereo files for each vocal track. Although the files are stereo and not mono, the vocals are basically split L and R between the two stereo tracks for each take (see screenshot below). As I arranged the remix I actually put these files into mono channels in Logic, and now that I'm preparing to mix, I'm wondering if this is a mistake or will lead to weird phase issues or whatnot. Should I leave the vox in their mono channels and mix or do I need to convert these channels to stereo first for a better sound? Sorry as I know this is probably a really stupid question but sometimes the mono/stereo stuff still confuses me a bit. Thanks! 13. Having a major problem over here with Live 8 and Logic 9.1.1 (32 bit) running on 10.6.3. I've been working on a remix and for some reason, Logic has decided it's a good idea to only use 1 of my 8 available cores for its resources. Live is using one core (core 6) at about 30%. I have almost no VIs open in Logic, aside from Maschine and one instance of EVOC PS. I have a very, very reasonable number of plugs on my audio channels, way less than I usually do without problems as I'm doing a lot of the work in Live for this remix. I haven't frozen tracks in Logic yet- if you're wondering why it's because I have so few audio tracks open in logic and I'm still arranging the remix, so I'm moving stuff around quite a bit and can't believe Logic is choking on less than 10 audio channels and 2 VIs. I've upped my latency to 512 samples, turned live rewire off (which means I effectively have to program everything and can't compose live now), and Logic is still barely being usable. I also am aware of how Logic distributes cpu load by channel so I don't have any channels with a challenging amount of AUs on them at all. Is there any way to fix this??!
  14. I'm watching this video which I'll paste below which is a basic electro tutorial on basslines- problem is the guy is using FL Studio and I'm wondering if there's a way to emulate something he's doing in logic. As you see about a minute into the video, he uses something called a peak controller in FL and links it to his reverb effect. Basically what he does is, when there is only a little signal going into the peak controller, it gets sent to his reverb unit. But if he holds a note, and there's a lot of signal coming through, the reverb doesn't get hit as hard- he basically has an inverted reverb on the track. Is there a way to do this in logic using space designer or one of the other reverb effects?
