  1. Yes!! I have never been able to get this to work properly, and this issue drives me crazy. It's up with my top Logic annoyances, together with the flawed zoom/autozoom behaviour. If you are listening back to your tack, the song position has moved on, but you select a midi region and open the piano roll, Logic almost never reliably shows the content of that region. What is the point of showing an empty piano roll window, how would that ever make sense? if I have selected a midi region, and hit P, what else could I possibly mean, other than "show me the midi for this region"? Also, the bar number that displays in the piano roll, often is neither the current song position, nor the bar position of the region, it just seems to be random. The behaviour I want is: Dear Logic: please completely ignore the current play position, and whether Logic is playing or not, just ALWAYS show me the midi of the selected region when I open the piano roll editor". There are similar quirks with opening the Audio Editor on selected audio regions - often the first press of W does not show the waveform, if you then close it, and press W again, on the 2nd attempt, the audio waveform appears.
  2. I love the new Step Sequencer, but I agree that things could definitely be improved. Being able to set the velocity of each step by dragging up and down in it, should really be the default without first having to click "Velocity" button. I would also love to see more features for randomisation, for example being able to set individual steps to "random velocity" but each with an individual Min/Max range. I tried using the Step Sequencer to automate plugins, and automating Bypass for a plugin is not very intuitive - I expected that an On step would mean Plugin On, and all empty steps mean Plugin Bypassed, but it doesn't work like that, you have to enter steps for Bypass after the On steps, to turn it off again. Not very slick, and not very clear visually.
  3. I was really hoping for this too. You say it can be done with MIDI messages? If you have got that working, can you explain how?
  4. Ahhh ok so I will have to set the notes manually to reflect the key Thank you If you set the key signature first in the transport bar, then create a pattern region, it seems to create rows in the step sequencer with notes corresponding to that key.
  5. One more: When I hit X to get the Mixer view (which is in "Single"), it often does not show the channel strip for the currently selected track. You have to close the Mixer, re-select the current track, and open the Mixer again. Opening the Mixer when the top-level folder stack is selected, is often not showing all the channels in the stack in the Mixer.
  6. I'm seeing quite a few graphics drawing problems in 10.4.5. Often when a track is expanded, the track lanes in the arrangement area do not follow, leaving the track headers and lanes completely misaligned. This happened a lot a few versions back and was fixed, now it seems to be back. (I'm using folder stacks, and track auto-zoom.) Channel names in the mixer are strangely aligned, sometimes at the top of the 2-line display and sometimes at the bottom. When I double-click either a track name or a region, and then use one of the keyboard arrow keys to position the text cursor, instead it randomly selects a whole bunch of regions in the tracks area. Also once had half of the midi regions on one track lane greyed out, even though they were not muted.
  7. Thanks a lot for the info. I have found the "farewell" emails from Redmatica before they shut down, so yes, I do have those serials. But.. the new Mac is on High Sierra, and I didn't know that the Redmatica apps won't run on it, damn! I use KeyMap a lot to make EXS24 instruments from folders of samples, and Pro Manager to re-org the whole library.
  8. I am in the process of setting up a new Mac Pro for Logic, (will finally be able to run 10.4!), but the drive where I kept various installers died some time ago, so I have lost the installers for Redmatica's Pro Manager and Key Map Pro. I purchased them both years ago. Does anyone have the last versions of the installers for these 2 programs, that they wouldn't mind sharing? I can provide proof of ownership and licence keys, etc. Sad that these products never re-surfaced in some Apple form in Logic... Thanks.
  9. Sierra minimum, darn it! This is SO annoying. What's more, I seriously doubt there is any real technical reason why Logic X 10.4 actually NEEDS Sierra to run, it's just typical Apple bullying tactics, forcing you to upgrade the OS, which for many people would require updating the hardware.
  10. I didn't know about the control-click options on the Piano Roll's Catch button. I think that might have finally done it. Many thanks!
  11. I'm probably being dense here, and not understanding something very basic, but would welcome being enlightened. So I am on the Tracks/Arrange page, with an 8 bar section looped and playing, further along in to the song, and one of the midi tracks I want to edit, at that point is playing a loop of an original midi region. I select the original midi region, which is earlier in the song, not inside the currently looped section. I hit P to see the piano roll for that midi region. To me, what else could this possibly mean other than "I want to see the piano roll for THIS midi region please". I don't CARE what the song position is, or where the locators are, I have specifically clicked a midi region and said I want to see the midi for it. But what I get in the piano roll is a sort of "ghost" display of the midi, because it's trying to show me the loop of the midi region that is at the current song position. Which isn't editable, useful, or what I want. Often you need to loop a certain section of the song, while editing the midi of a region that is playing at that point, but whose original is much earlier in the song. Achieving this in Logic so far has defeated me! I think I've tried every combination of Catch and Follow, and just can't get the behaviour that I want. How do you do this? Looking forward to my "doh" moment...
  12. I am repeatedly having problems with Logic crashing when I open a project that is using Massive. I have official Komplete 11, with Massive v1.5.1, on Logic 10.3.1. The only message is "Logic Pro X quit unexpectedly while using the Massive plugin". To get around it, I have to open the project without Core Audio enabled, and remove the instance of Massive, but if there are several, that is a huge pain because I don't know which one is causing the crash. If I later re-add Massive, for a while I may be able to open the project, but usually the problem occurs again at some point. I am able to use Massive just fine when the project is open, the problem only ever happens when opening a project. I don't use Massive in every project, so I don't know if this would happen every time I use Massive, or only in certain cases. Any ideas?
  13. That works, thanks. The lack of the + confused me.
  14. I can no longer access the '+' Scissors tool for cutting a region in to equal sized sub-regions, using keyboard modifiers. Did this change since 10.3? And I can't find anything related to this in key commands. What is the keyboard combination to access this?
