  1. Do you have a track set to MIDI channel 2? Is that track record-enabled? Aw didn't realize I needed to enable record but that makes sense... That's 1 out of 4 down going to try to figure out the novation next. Thanks, Kevin Edit: Thanks for your help I've got them all working now
  2. You can trust Logic. If it says a note is received on channel X it definitely means your instrument is transmitting notes on channel X. It is detailed on page 53 of your manual (http://cdn.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/RD-300NX_OM.pdf), titled " Detailed Settings for Transmitted Parts." Thank you for looking that up! I did see that part so I guess this particular instrument transmits on 3 midi channels then? That's what has been confusing me for the most part. Just like the novation has 4 different sections. Thanks again, Kevin edit: so now I have it set so each track has a specific midi channel. I am not getting any sound though when I play my keyboard with it set on channel 2 even though it shows in the LCD as channel 2
  3. The same way, it's just one more MIDI controller, it needs to send on its own transmit-MIDI channel, and the track it controls will have the same MIDI channel. I am still having a heck of a time with this... seems like this should be easier then I am making it but everytime I think I change the MIDI Channel on the instrument logic doesn't agree. I am using the following: Akai MPKmini Roland Rd300-nx Novation 61SL MKII Akai MPD 26 When I google things like 'how to change the midi channel on roland rd300nx' I am just not getting any results. Looking thru the manuals I thought I figured it out but still doesn't work. Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks, Kevin
  4. So I priced things out and got myself down to 2 options. Looking for advice on which to settle on. Hackintosh - going to take some work to get up and running but once I do shouldn't be a problem Specs: Dual Xeon X 5650 2.66 ghz 12 cores 48 gb ddr3 1600 ram Drive 1 - 250gb SSD Drive 2 - 1tb SSD Drive 3 - 2tb hybrid (raid 1) Drive 4 - 2tb hybrid (raid 1) GeForce gtx 970 4gb ( for my design software) Liquid cooled $2162.94 Or Refurb Mac 2.4 ghz 12 cores 16gb ram ddr3 1333 Drive 1 - 2tb 7200rpm Ati Radeon hd 5770 1gb gddr5 $1899 W/ the ram upgrade and drives adds $750 $2649 These are all rough numbers but curious what others think. Is it worth $300 and a couple comprises to get something manufacture refuted? Or should I just go for it and build my own? Thanks again for thoughts and opinions! Kevin
  5. Hackintosh appeals to me justs because I do enjoy building things and what not. However after doing some research it's looking like the pricing for building something similar would be about the cost of a refurb mac from 2012. The CPU's are cheap! Like $75 a piece for X5650 chips. RAM is cheap too. Mobo is going to be around $500 but probably the most expensive part of the build. I'm going to go ahead and price things out further but there may be something to be said for buying a refurb and then just adding my own SSD's and RAM.
  6. VERY well put! You should publish that somewhere Alright so that makes me more confident in my SSD purchased as well as the thought to get 32gb RAM (like you said it's dirt cheap). Here's where my mind is right now. If I build/buy a machine based on a westmere chip I can access up to 128gb ram. However it will not be ddr4. I can also still run decent SSDs and most likely I will get more cores or at least have them available. If I go this route I suspect to save money too. Thoughts on this thought process? Maybe buy a refurb Mac Pro and beef it up with SSDs and ram? Or build from scratch? Thanks for your input, Kevin
  7. Hey guys, I'm getting ready to build a new hackintosh. The primary use of this machine will be logic and protools. My question is how logic handles the cpu. Here's the build I've put together https://pcpartpicker.com/user/theembark/saved/RwPCmG Right now I have a 5820k going into it. The question is whether I should hold back on ram and a hard drive or two and put more into the CPU getting a 8 or 12 core Xeon? I realize a lot of this comes down to what I do in logic. Average project is between 60 and 80 tracks. I do a lot of midi composition but also do live recording usually recording up to 10 tracks at a time. Any final advice before I start this build would be appreciated. I could very easily hold back on things like the monitor and put that money into a CPU if it's going to increase performance. The other question is westmere vs haswell? Especially with ddr3 vs ddr4 not showing a huge difference. Thanks, Kevin
  8. Aw wow. That makes sense. I guess I figured the time piece just took care of that bypassing it but port vs channel. Very easy to understand that way. I am out of the studio today but will read some manuals and find out how to change the channels on my controllers. Also I have a MPK Mini that is USB that I like to use for instruments like bass. How would I incorporate this with the midi channeled instruments? Thanks, Kevin
  9. How can you tell? This may be a stupid assumption on my part but my assumption has to do with the midi/audio interface is OS. I setup my midi time piece and when I select 'test' I get a positive test for each device. Past this I have no idea. Is this something I need to change inside the controllers? I guess I figured that because I'm using a time piece that it would output the midi in just whatever channel it's plugged into. So if I plug my Novation in midi I/o 4 my assumption is that both OS and logic should see it that way. Thanks for additional help, Kevin
  10. They are all showing as channel 1 which just doesn't make sense to me. Mac OS reads them as separate channels. Any thoughts? Thanks, Kevin
  11. So when it displays a note, it also displays its MIDI channel. Not that I see. Would it be in that same lcd panel?
  12. In the Custom LCD display it says 'No In' 'No Out'. Not sure why though. Outside of logic, in the OS X environment everything is read/write. Edit: However if I play a chord or note it does register it
  13. Even when I am playing 'live' the only sound that is made is the selected sound regardless of the midi channel it is on. Any tips on troubleshooting this? Thanks again, Kevin
  14. Thank you very much! I am getting there. I had read that tutorial of yours and was trying to accomplish that result. I went ahead and put the SUM into the sequencer: Then I enabled demix. I assigned one track to midi channel 4 and one to 5 armed them both and went to record. It did infact record the midi this time but only to one track. Only to the track selected. So when I play my Novation which I have as channel 4 going into a bass and channel 5 is a serum instance I don't get 2 different sounds. I only get the sound of whichever is highlighted. Thanks, Kevin
  15. Thanks for the prompt reply and I apologize for the stupidity but how do I do that in logic? Thanks again, Kevin
