  1. I am saving Logic projects as packages. I'm not sure whether it would make any difference if you saved as packages or folders. I can't address that. But the underlying problem is that the data is in a complex structure that has the possibility of getting corrupt when using a cloud server. Understand that I have been using Logic for years and never ran into the problem I initially described with Dropbox. But Apple tech support has seen it many times evidently. Maybe the files are more complicated than they were with earlier versions of Logic. But if I were you, just to be on the safe side, I would save locally and then upload periodically to the cloud, compressing the files when you do the upload using zip. Think of it as a more conservative approach to dodging a potential bullet.
  2. Apple comes across many logic pro users who run into this problem so not everyone is aware!
  3. Wow, David, I had no idea about Option-resizing! That's a great help. Thank you.
  4. I am producing a podcast that includes a few audio tracks and 10-15 midi tracks of music accompaniment. I would like to be able to adjust on the fly the tempo of certain midi regions without adversely affecting the other tracks, both midi and audio. I know I can use SMPTE lock to lock all of the regions except the regions in which I am changing the tempo, but I am wondering if there is an easier, quicker way to do this? Thanks!
  5. Through the years, all of you in this forum have been incredibly helpful to me. Because of this, even though my problem has been resolved, I wanted to share my experience and warn you about a problem with Dropbox. I produce a podcast. Up until my last project, I was using Dropbox to save projects as I worked on them. I never encountered a problem with this until my last project, which took weeks of Apple tech support time to resolve. The problem manifested itself in the middle of a project in which I was copying regions from one project and pasting them into another project. Things were going along well and out of the blue, the pasting no longer worked. It would paste properly on one track, but no data appeared on the second track. Apple support and I tried everything we could think of to resolve it. The problem was bumped up to engineering. Working with copies of the projects directly they could not duplicate the issue. As it turns out, this is because they were copying and pasting from a local drive, not Dropbox. The bottom line--Do not use Dropbox or any cloud server as the location to which you save your projects as you are working. Use a local drive, make your editing changes there. And then, at whatever interval you want, compress the project file (zip it) and then upload it to Dropbox. Then, when you want to work on it again, download it from the cloud, unzip it, and start working again. It was explained to me that, due to the complex structure of Logic Pro X files, sometimes saving to the cloud can corrupt the Logic projects if it is done enough times. I have learned my lesson, but felt I owed all of you a word of warning about this problem. Feel free to message me if you have any further questions! Meg
  6. Yes--a new project. So there is an existing project (original interview) and then I created a new project (edited interview), Sorry for the confusing terminology.
  7. I have run up against a problem that is quite strange and one I have never seen before. I have a long 2-track one-on-one interview that has been recorded (let's call this file the original interview) I have created a new file containing 2 empty tracks (call this edited interview). As I go through and listen to the original interview file, I am creating regions in that original interview (containing both tracks), and then copying these regions and pasting them into the new file. I have done this successfully for 15 minutes worth of material, copying and pasting sections of the old interview into the new file. I see the same wave forms as I paste them into the new file. Now for some reason, when I paste the next region into the edited interview file, I see wave forms for the first track but no wave form for the second track. I have no idea why I can no longer copy and paste track 2, and am wondering why this is happening. When I tried closing the file with the problem and then reopening the file (the edited interview file), I get the following warning message: "One or multiple audio files changed in length or content position. As a result 16 audio regions changed in length or content position" Any help would be greatly appreciated as always. I'm on deadline and this is driving me crazy!! Thanks, Meg
  8. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I wanted to let everyone know that when I bounced the file in real time, it worked absolutely fine. So while I still don't know what caused the problem, I am happy that I was able to get a good quality mp3. I was curious, triplets, what settings should I have when I bounce a file to mp3? Should I not be using 24-bit? I gather you think that's unnecessary as mp3 is compressed and I would therefore not get anywhere near 24-bit quality, right? I am challenged in this area to be sure. To answer your question, I did try bouncing to a wav file (but not in real time) and I had the same problem as bouncing to mp3. It seems that the key was bouncing in real time. If you could please tell me the optimum settings to use when bouncing a file for use as a podcast episode, I would appreciate it. When publishing an episode, I use mp3. Again, many thanks! Meg
  9. I have been producing a podcast for the past year. When I finish an episode, I bounce it to an mp3 file and upload it to my Podcast Host. This is normally a straightforward process and usually works flawlessly. This last episode is approximately 1.7 GB, which is a typical length (just about an hour long). I had no trouble getting Logic to bounce my file, but when I listened to the MP3 version, the instruments sounded jittery at times, legatos were messed up in certain places, and there were these kind of intermittent errors throughout. I don't know if I inadvertently changed some of the bounce settings, but right now they are: Mode: Offline, Normalize On, Resolution 24 Bit, Dithering None.) When I play the file within Logic everything is flawless, so I am a bit stumped. I'm ready to publish the episode so it is pretty frustrating. I've tried rebooting, only having Logic up in RAM. I tried bouncing the file to different location. i use Dropbox, but last time i tried just bouncing to the Desktop, eliminating Dropbox as a potential problem. One thing I haven't tried is bouncing in real time. I will do that next and see if the errors go away. Does anyone think this will make a difference? When I'm done bouncing in real time, I will follow up if and let you know if this solved the problem. If anyone has any thoughts I would greatly appreciate suggestions. Thanks in advance, Meg
  10. Alan, forgive me for not responding sooner. I thought I was set up to receive emails when people respond to my questions in this forum. I'll have to double check that. Thanks for your suggestions. I actually don't have room for an 88-key controller. I wound up getting the Komplete Kontrol 61-key and like it very much, although I've been so busy with deadlines that I haven't had a chance to learn all the ways in which it integrates with Logic Pro X. As far as how Irish I may be...I have red hair, play the Celtic harp and my name is Meg. All of that said, I am not aware of any Irish descendants. Perhaps the only true way of solving this riddle is for me to get a DNA test! Regardless, I love Irish music and feel a part of the culture even if I have no way to prove it. Again, many thanks.
  11. Thanks for your excellent and detailed response. I actually wound up getting the Komplete Kontrol Keyboard 61 (it too has the Fatar keybed). I'm in the middle of a lot of deadlines and honestly have not had enough time to learn the integration of this keyboard with Logic and Kontakt, but so far I like it very much. Again, many thanks for your help!
  12. I have an old keyboard (M-Audio KeyRig 49) that I bought many years ago. I am now in the process of buying some VST instruments that have the capability for finer control using keyswitches and other articulations. The problem is that I am limited with my current keyboard to control these instruments. Many of the keyswitches require a segment of the keyboard keys to be allocated as keyswitches and only having 49 keys is a limitation. Using a mouse and trying to do keyswitching on the screen is awkward and makes it difficult to get much expression. I'm not sure I should get a bigger keyboard or a different kind of midi controller. (Also, my space is somewhat limited and that is a factor as well.) I am curious what people would recommend both for keyboards as well as other ways of controlling these instruments. (I have tried using Touch OSC on my iPad and have not been able to get a workable connection. To this end, someone else in this forum said they prefer using physical faders and buttons as opposed to an iPad.) Any guidance would be appreciated!
  13. Thanks, Alan. Yes, I think I'm going to have to go with a bigger keyboard as well not just for the controls, but for the increased number of octaves. If you or anyone has a suggestion of the best keyboard to work with VST instruments handling articulations as well as keyswitching, I would appreciate the advice! BTW, I see you're from Ireland. I play Irish harp and compose some Irish-sounding melodies. I think I must have some genes from your part of the world because I love the music.
  14. I have a 49-key midi keyboard and am just beginning to acquire VST instruments above and beyond what is offered in Logic. I came across this Touch OSC and thought it would extend my use of midi controllers, particularly given the fact that I have very few controllers directly on my keyboard. In general, because of using keyswitches and other articulations, what would be the best midi controller/keyboard to purchase? I have a feeling that the keyboard I have now will be limiting. Thanks.
  15. Hi! I would be interested in starting such a group. I'm not sure how much time I have to contribute, but I like the idea of a Women's Group. Where I live (US-Maryland), I host periodic lunches for Creative Women so I'm all about inspiring each other! Let me know if this comes to pass. I am a composer, singer/songwriter and am currently producing a podcast called "The Meg Robinson Show," which is an interview format. It's new--only 8 episodes so far. Lots more to say, but if you are interested in connecting, please let me know, and thank you for a great idea.
