  1. Nice! That moment when things used to start to freeze but now the machine is basically sleeping is a great feeling and makes the purchase so worth it. Have fun, Cheers!
  2. Ya I came from building my own PC's to an iMac in 09', bought it new fully maxed out was stupid expensive with not much expandability as far as computers are concerned - I decided to not get another one in the future because of this, it's now being used as a monitor. You can purchase a 4x USB 3 card for 60$ or for 100$ get a 2x2 usb/esat pci-e. (https://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/MXPCIE2E2U3/) I mean you do have 3 other slots plus 4x internal drive slots heck get another video card run 6 monitors if you want! = upgrades Not to be rude or try to flex either but should mention avg benchmarks -as reliable as they are lol- for my base 12core system are higher than that new iMac i7 quad and I upgraded with 64gb ram plus have a few internal SSD's running so no need for USB3 with these options. Either way good luck with your purchase I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose!
  3. Hey just as a suggestion - I just upgraded from the EXACT setup you have (iMac 09 maxed ram with ssd os) -- check out my signature block for the mac pro I bought to replace it... $2500.00 CAD which is like 17 or $1800 USD. I'm running 3 monitors off of it (including my 27" iMac connected via Minidisplay and FW800 so I swap between them and use the iMac as a "lifestyle" computer e.g internet and downloads while switching back to the mac pro strictly for Logic and can transfer files seamlessly between them. Just a rant of where I'm at and can give you some options I only found thru trial and error. Oh and also yes this Mac Pro is a beast and I don't think you'll get near its performance for the cost of it - My opinion. Good luck.
  4. Need some advice from a tech head. Im looking to install one more drive into my Mac Pro (see signature) I have one more internal space available. This drive will become a drive I set as the project path for new projects and ultimately save projects to. My question is mainly will a samsung 256gb ssd be fine as a project drive for 80+ track projects vst's audio files plugins etc, or just go with a 1 or 2 tb HDD? Also, if SSD is chosen and I notice space issues on the SSD - can I just move projects temporarily to an external HDD while I work on active/current projects off the SSD? I hit google up for 30 min and nothing on this so thanks for any knowledge on this situation.
  5. ok so quick update YES as expected this system is a BEAST. Im just running all types of VST's having a blast with no hiccups finally feeling some composing freedom.
  6. "Save as Alternative" Key Command
  7. I bought numerology, very very great product so in no way hating... its just overkill. The GUI needs a serious revision too. I should have clarified - Midi Fx Step Sequencer a la Fruity Loops. (please don't say, "use Fruity Loops then") You can also look at Geist but once again - overkill. These plugins eat your cpu pretty bad too when you're just looking to sequence a simple beat. Also, should we have to pay $150+ for this feature? I understand this all may just be a personal problem because there is options for me to step sequence, but just watch 1 video of someone using the FL step sequencer. It seems pretty user friendly/simple & intuitive. Ultrabeat's interface is "meh" and correct me if I'm wrong but you can't lengthen patterns - say for example to a 128 step pattern. Could just be me.
  8. Haha ya I've been looking at possible upgrades getting pretty excited. I will post back in the next couple weeks how the system is performing for anyone in the future looking at this same model. I just can't wait for the moment when I'm expecting a session to slow or freeze and then just blast right thru!
  9. Hey Triplets. Im getting it for 2000 cad so about 1600 usd with a one year warranty. This is just one of those push me over the edge moments. I'll prob purchase later today. Anyone have speculation on the type of session and track count this thing could handle?
  10. I have no idea why the font got all messed up, sorry guys.. Again, thanks for any help.
  11. Piano Roll Ghost Notes & Scales ala Fruity Loops
  12. Piano Roll Collapse Mode Key Command
  13. I'm sure I'm answering my own question here but any knowledge or opinions can be helpful. Currently running iMac 2009 i7 2.8 ghz 20GB RAM with Logic Pro X 10.2.2 on Mavericks Osx into producing dance music consisting with lots of vst's. The mac benchmark score for my mac is low like 7000ish. I upgraded the RAM http://webkit-fake-url//5cf04a14-78b2-4ae4-81b5-0ed35355d430/image.tiff My cpu is getting destroyed after a handful of tracks with vst's - ie - Battery, Kontakt, Sylenth, Massive, etc during my creative process; I would like to eventually record vocals within my session and then mix. I understand Logic's stacked core issues and spread plugins accordingly and am not using multitimbral insts, I believe this system is just too slow to handle what I want to do. How will this Mac Pro (upgraded to 64gb ram) configuration compare to my current iMac and will it be able to handle large sessions like most pro mixes require? Mac Pro 5,1 2010 12 Core x2 5670 2.93ghz upgraded to 64GB RAM http://webkit-fake-url//3b6e0f93-b616-414d-82d6-0e002f254ef2/image.tiffI believe I'm going to run with the same OS and Logic version unless for a good reason advised otherwise. Any help is GREATLY appreciated, thank you in advance!
