  1. Could it also be that he just played the synth and then drew in the pitch bends using midi draw? and yeah, there's a lot going on in this synth, with all the bends, sounds like there some form of echo/delay on it and obviously some reverb. And I just love the very soft dreamy type of sound to it that I'm trying to recreate.
  2. Hello all, I'm fairly new to synth design and such. I have mostly recorded live or used presets in my software programs. But recently I have been looking into more sound design stuff and am trying to figure out how to make a synth that sounds similar to the one in this specific song, especially starting at the 2:07 mark of the song: If y'all could at least get me started on it with where to start, that'd be great. I wouldn't be opposed to someone doing it for me and getting a logic session with the sound in it, if someone would be kind enough. Thanks in advance!
  3. WOW! You nailed it! Thanks so much! Another fun trick in the toolbag for me! I can't thank you enough!
  4. Hey all, So I've been trying to get make a synth sound similar to one in the intro to the song, "On the Wing" by Owl City. I provided a link in this post. I have figured out that if I take a synth and go to "modulation" in the audioFX and then apply tremolo and drop the "smoothing" setting down to zero, turn the rate up to around 1/16 and fade the depth in and out, I can get kinda close. But Im missing part of it and can't figure out how to do it. How do I get it to sound like it does in the song where it is almost evolving. It has more than just the tremolo on it. It seems like it becomes a sharper/harsher sound at the peaks of the tremolo but then it backs off and becomes softer, more subdued, more smooth, etc. And what type of synth wave is being used there? sine? square? something else? any ideas of presets or how to make a synth like that? I have NI's Komplete ultimate 10 and all of the logic instruments and synths, so there has to be some way I can make a very closely resembled sound to this.
  5. I just put out this song recently I was going for a more laid back and "nostalgic" type of feel for this song. Let me know what you think!
  6. Hey all, Here is a new Christmas song I put out somewhat recently. Would love some feedback on it! SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/kyle-musser-1/christmas-time-every-night YouTube: Thanks! P.S. I have another song that I put out in September, if you wanna take a look. It's called Nightlights Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/kyle-musser-1/nightlights YouTube:
  7. Hey everyone! I just released this song on iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, and all the other music sources! Take a listen and let me know what you think! It is a Christian song, so if you aren't into that type of stuff, I'd still appreciate feedback on the actual music even if you don't care for the lyrics. https://soundcloud.com/kyle-musser-1/nightlights
  8. Is it easy to install an SSD? I've never done that before. And how much does a good one cost? Im kinda clueless when it comes to the inner workings of computers and stuff.
  9. Im looking into getting a iMac for my home studio instead of using my laptop. What are some of the main specs I need to look at and what are the main requirements the iMac would need to meet? Also, does anyone know where I can get one cheaper than the normal asking price?
  10. So being a dirt poor college kid, would you guys say that LANDR and other companies like it are good for mastering your songs/tracks? Or should I just use a producer that I know. I can get my song produced by the producer for around $80 or I could get it done by LANDR for like $20-$30. What do you all recommend? I'm not at the point yet where I can mix and master by myself, so I'm looking for something to do until I'm confident in my abilities. Thanks!!
  11. What microphones would you recommend getting to record a grand piano? I have one available for use that I can record. I already have a Blue Baby Bottle mic and was looking into getting some other mics. I guess this would be the time to do it.
  12. Maybe "muddy" isn't the correct wording for it. If you listen to the intro of the actual song and then proceed to listen to my version, It just doesn't seem as clear and distinct. Maybe the word I'm looking for would be along the lines of "muffled" or something else. My version just doesn't have as crisp of a sound to it, if you understand what I'm trying to say. How do you draw out the clear and crisp sound?
  13. I am not sure if I did what you said correctly, but I'm still feeling that the audio is too muddy. I tried to turn off any and all reverb coming from Kontact and bus out to a reverb. I have no idea if I did it right or not though. Here is what I have right now: https://soundcloud.com/kyle-musser-1/audio-for-forum-question
  14. Whats your idea? I have a good amount of software programs and sound design programs. Give me ideas and Ill work with them. All I can tell so far is that it is drenched in reverb, almost as if the sound was coming from an echo chamber or something of the sort. The sound itself is a mystery to me though.
  15. Im working to recreate this song. From about the 0:30 to the 0:40 second marks, you can hear something that I believe is a guitar swell or multiple guitar swells merged together. This is the type of sound Im looking for.
