If a faucet isn't connected to the water mains, there's no way for the faucet to distribute water, period. In the same way, if the audio outputs of a device are not connected to the audio input of another, there's no way for the audio to travel from the first device to the latter, period. The only ways I can think of (there may be others I'm not thinking of right now) that you had "sound" before are: The sound wasn't coming from the Clavinova (for example you were using a software instrument). The audio outs from the Clavinova were connected to audio inputs on your Mac's built-in audio interface, or on a 3rd party audio interface. You were monitoring the sound from the outs of the Clavinova, not from your Mac. You were using a mixer which was mixing the Clavinova with the output of your DAW on your Mac. A USB cable directly connecting your Mac with the Clavinova was transferring USB-audio from the Clav to the Mac. Is there a set up then you would recommend for me just getting into working with Logic?

Ok without an audio connection between the Clavinova and the Mac, there's no way to get the audio from the Clavinova to the Mac, period. On the other hand when you choose a software instrument track, you're playing the sounds that are already in the Mac (Logic's instruments, or 3rd party instruments installed on your Mac if any), so that's not an issue. So there's just no explaining how I've gotten sound before?

Is that the MIDI/USB cable? That's for MIDI only. You also need an audio connection. Yes, that MIDI/USB cable, piano, and computer is all I have. I just know I've gotten sound from it before so that's why I'm wondering why it all of a sudden stopped. When I click the software instrument now it works again. Produces output through the computer.

When I unplug the USB cord from the computer connected to the piano, there is still no sound. I thought that would work. But all I have is one cord with an input and output to go into the piano and a USB to connect to the computer directly. Haven't invested in one yet.

It has it's own speakers because I just use that as a piano to play most of the time. Doesn't give the option to send the output to the piano though.

Can you tell me the exact model number of your Clavinova? Can try CLP-950

Im sorry if I'm not giving enough information, im just not sure. The headphones are able to plug into a computer, or phone. The output on the piano is too big for the headphones.

Try plugging the headphones into one of the line out. See if you can hear anything - even if the quality is bad. Again, we're just troubleshooting for now and trying to help you figure out what went wrong, precisely. The only place I can plug in my headphones are the computer and I don't get any sound from that. Now it recognizes for the MIDI but doesn't recognize for software instrument. So seems like Logic doesn't want to cooperate very well anymore.

I understand what you ultimately want, but we're not there yet. We're troubleshooting for now, which means you need to take a few steps back and try things to see what works and what doesn't. The next step: keep your headphones plugged in the Clavinova, record a few notes on the track in Logic, and play the track back. Can you hear the Clavinova playing in your headphones? The output in the piano doesn't fit any of my headphones. Sorry for all the trouble. I'm just having a hard time trying to figure what went wrong.

I can get sound from the piano but I want to hear what I record from my computer. Here is a picture from where the connection is. In Logic the audio input and out only have two options, system settings and built in. But there is a switch near the MIDI out and in on the piano that says MIDI, PC-2, PC-1, or MAC. It has been on MIDI.

If you can detail those connections more precisely (which port into which port of what device, what manufacturer and model etc...), then I can help you further troubleshooting your issue. So the MIDI cord is a cheap no brand MIDI to USB. The MIDI out I plug into the piano in and the MIDI in I plug into the piano out. I have a Mac air and the USB just plugs straight into my laptop.

Its a MIDI out and in connection into the Clavinova, and a usb connection to the computer. I'm not sure why the connection would change anything though because it has worked before. Just don't know if I went and messed something up in Logic or what. Thanks for all the help everyone though.

And the output is working for other tracks, just when I try MIDI it stops working.

It's a Yamaha Clavinova it just has the MIDI plug ins. I'm using my piano as a controller, I have a blank project and click create external midi. But no output. It seems like it's muted. Not sure at all why it all of a sudden stopped working.

I have no sound card so I'm not sure if that's what it is. It's just a MIDI out and in to the piano and a usb connection to the computer I have. Like I said, I have had it working before but it seems like the audio preferences have changed or something. it's just saying Built in output or system settings.
