  1. It was a fresh download that day, so I'm sure it was the current version. They don't have a 32-bit version, so I've ruled that possible accident out. Sent a support request to TBProAudio but haven't heard back. Are there any other free or inexpensive plugins that measure integrated RMS?
  2. Hey, all. I was setting up a new computer for a client who records audiobooks from his home studio, and TB Pro Audio's dpMeter5 is great for ACX providers as it's one of the rare meters that shows integrated RMS. But while it showed audio passing, none of the cumulative meters were responding. I use it on my systems, but my Mac is an older Mac Pro that is permanently stuck on Mojave and Logic 10.5.1, while the client's new Mini has Big Sur and Logic 10.6.2. Is anybody using this plugin on a current system? Any idea why it wouldn't work?
  3. Sad, as it would seem to be such a useful function for any large-scale project. The color hack is pretty slick, but could be problematic if one was already using lots of colors.
  4. 11 years ago, I know! I've been working primarily in Pro Tools, where the clip group function is incredibly useful when needing to copy a section across a bunch of tracks to another location. Now I'm working on a massive film score in Logic (still much preferred for composing), and find myself desperately needing an equivalent function. Selecting a bunch of spread out regions and copying them across a 120 track main page isn't fun. I couldn't find that anything had changed regarding region grouping since 2010. Is there any secret sauce that I'm not seeing?
  5. Thanks, understood. I definitely want to keep everything on grid, and I have been creating compensating bars in whatever time signature is necessary to make that happen. But I can see the likelihood of creating a big mess if changes keep coming up earlier in the timeline. I think it might be wiser to still keep a master timeline, but create new projects just for cues that need to be updated, ignoring how it might affect downstream stuff, then bounce those updated cues as audio files and import them back into the master. Not ideal, but less cumbersome and inconvenient than individual files for every cue. Thoughts?
  6. Hey all. Scoring a long documentary, using a very large palette of sounds, and by preference keeping it all in one continuous timeline to facilitate drawing themes and arrangements from earlier parts of the doc. Lots of tempo and time signature changes, as per normal for such a project. To protect myself from stupid errors I'm SMPTE locking all regions when a cue is 'finished.' Now the inevitable: I have to go back to an earlier cue and replace it with a new one at a different tempo. So do I need to unlock all the downstream regions before making the tempo change? How do most people handle scoring projects with regard to the need to make these types of updates? I will experiment, of course, but the project is so large and takes so long to re-load that I'm trying to avoid any screwups that would require that. Any advice appreciated.
  7. Thanks for that info, David. I made the same mistake in a current project and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the metronome back. It's been a long time since I've pulled any cables in the Environment. Brought back memories. Not particularly pleasant ones.
  8. Thanks. I'm using Izotope RX7 Advanced's De-clicker to remove some mouth noise from vocal tracks. I've had it put back a stereo file a couple of times, both when doing the processing from the Mix page and from the Audio Editor. So the problem certainly could be with Izotope. I'll try a couple of methodical experiments today and check back in.
  9. Having a strange phenomenon where selection based processing is sometimes converting mono files to stereo. I haven't done a lot of this in Logic, so if there's some obvious setting I've likely got wrong, please enlighten me. Thanks.
  10. Thanks much, Christian (and for posting in both forums) I'll need to study this and do some experimentation. So it looks like relying on Flex, rather than Vari Speed, is the best bet. Also, by recording 'separately' I assume you're talking about dedicated tracks, as opposed to in a separate project or at the end of a project, correct? I was a little concerned that altering tempos in the middle of a timeline might cause sync issues down the line, but it would certainly be more convenient if we could keep everything in its proper chronological order. Unfortunately he's talking about as much as a 20% change in tempo, which I have very little hope of sounding acceptable.
  11. Hey, all. I've got an upcoming project that will involve a clarinetist performing all 11 parts of a composition. He's created time signature maps (gazillions of changes), and will of course be playing to a click, but he's informed me some sections are impossible for him to play at tempo, so we'll need to slow the some of the tempos down for recording. I use Logic almost exclusively for MIDI composition, so this is new territory for me. I've read through some threads similar to this and come away with no consensus. What's the currently recommended method for the least amount of artifacts?
  12. That it was. I don't have a clear understanding of the relationship between firmware and the hardware where it resides, but it's obviously an important one.
  13. When I took my client's Fast Track Pro home to test it out, it worked as badly on my MacBook Pro as it had on hers. Same issues of wonky levels and lots of hashy noise. This is a system I use frequently to record in both Pro Tools and Logic, without issue. But when I downloaded the latest drivers, I noticed the firmware update option that I had previously ignored. That did the trick, and the unit worked both on my system and hers when I went back there for a test. The only bummer is, now that it's working properly, I find the preamps to be extremely wimpy. But at least it's clean and usable now.
  14. Okay, weird. But it's just hard to believe the pre's on this Fast Track could be so hot as to be unusable with a pair of Rode NT-5's. I have a Macbook Pro of my own I can run some additional tests on. Gotta get to the bottom of this.
