  1. Hi, I’m looking for a way to control the source levels of my audio input sources and output levels with midi or some other kind of remote. Could you please help? I’m using a Focusrite 18i20 scarlet interface and it works great, but I need to move the knobs on the interface to change any of my input volumes. There are several different locations in my studio where play music while streaming live and I want to be able to change the source levels of the microphones and instruments from wherever I am, without needing to stop and walk to the interface. Is there any way to control the volumes of the input sources with a midi controller? I called up Focusrite and they said that there isn’t for this interface, but I’m wondering: are there are any external devices, third party solutions, DIY hacks or different interfaces that do allow this kind of remote control? A way to control it with midi would be best, but I’m open to whatever type solution. Also, I’m planning to purchase a headphone amplifier to increase my headphone volume and would like to be able to control this remotely as well (preferable with midi) . Is this possible? Or do i need to purchase a special kind of headphone amp that has a remote functionality built in with the hardware? Thanks, Dan
  2. Hi I’m having an issue where my midi instruments are triggering each other even though they are set to be on different channels. Could you please help? When i hit a key on my midi keyboard, its also triggering sounds in my drum tracks and recording in their timelines. All the midi instruments are also triggered and recorded if i hit a drumpad. I want to keep them all in record enable mode so that they are ready to record when i play the instrument, but only actually play and record the correct instrument when i play it. I checked with the app called midi monitor and it shows that the midi keyboard is only producing midi signals channel 2 , the dm6 is only on channel 10, and the Spp (samplepad pro) is only on channel 13. So i dont understand why they are triggering each other? Is there something i'm missing or an option that has been unchecked? This had happened to me last year, but i think i fixed it and it hadn't happened again until today. Here's a screenshot of my screen after i hit the piano key: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kj2mhjdb1u4hwgh/Screenshot%202017-10-12%2012.24.57.png?dl=0 Thanks, Dan
  3. One follow-up question: Last night I had an issue where i accidentally midimapped buttons on the nanopad to control the volume sliders. I meant to program a MidiMix controller with knobs to control this, but i guess that i had accidentally left the midi-learn function on and it mapped it to my nanopad so that each time i pressed the nanopad button (to scroll down the page with Keyboard Maestro), it made the volume slider go to 0. Is there any way to change the environment so that this mistake cannot happen again? The previous solutions have worked perfectly to stop any sounds from being made by the nanopad, but is there any way to make it so that the logic control surface midi mapping doesn't recognize the nanopad either?
  4. You can safely do any adjustments on the "master" (stereo out), or the individual tracks you record to, without affecting the gain on the incoming (and recorded) audio. So, use your stereo out and audio channel strip faders, no problem ! Ok thanks for explaining that. It seems like i didn't know how these things worked! I'll share my exact use case to make sure that i understand right. can you please let me know if i am i understanding it right or if there is anything that i'm confusing? I record in Logic, and i also send the sound from logic to OBS to livestream when i play. I send all of the incoming audio from instruments and midi instruments into Bus 1 and i send the audio from Bus 1 into into bus 2 and bus 3. Bus 3 goes to stereo out and bus 2 goes to OBS. I have OBS set to receive the audio from Logic through outputs 23-24, which go to soundflower and soundflower sends them to OBS. If it makes it easier to understand, here is a screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ppnckk8t28aw1x3/Screenshot%202017-09-19%2012.42.30.png?dl=0 So if i want to raise my headphone volume (or the volume that my studio monitors produce), but don't want to raise volume that is recorded in logic and sent to OBS - then i can use the slider in the top right. Logic only allows me to raise this by 6db. But i could also do the same thing by using the the mixer fader (or putting a gain plugin if i want more than 6db) on the Stereo Out track in the mixer. Right? This would mean that stereo out and master volume are the same thing. Correct? I can also raise the volume of the individual tracks by using the sliders next to the tracks to the left of the timeline or in the mixer (and apply gain plugins in the mixer). When i do this, it does not affect the volume that is recorded into logic, but it does affect the volume that it sent to OBS. Correct? If i want to increase the volume sent to OBS (but not increase the volume in my headphones, monitors, or recording), then i can increase the fader for Bus 2 (or add a gain plugin on Bus 2). Is this correct? If i want to increase the volume that is recorded to logic, then the only way to adjust this is by using the knobs on my physical interface (and all of the other sliders simply change the output to my headphones, studio monitors, or OBS). Is this correct?
  5. hmmmm, ok thanks. I've thought about using a headphone amp before, but have never used on and not sure how they work yet. Just did a quick search and found the BEHRINGER MICROAMP HA400 has good reviews ( https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-HA400-BEHRINGER-MICROAMP/dp/B000KIPT30/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1505838303&sr=8-3&keywords=headphone+amp ). Would this work? And about connecting it.... I have a focusrite 18i20 interface. Would i connect the headphone amp to one of the outs of the interface or to the headphone ports on the front? And would i connect it using a standard guitar/instrument 1/4 cable? If i did this, then i could control headphone volume from both the interface and the headphone amp?
  6. I set the correct midi mappings again yesterday after writing that post and I just tested this again, i think this info might be helpful to diagnose the issue, here are the results: The MidiMix that forgot the midi mappings has once again forgotten the midi mapping completely. The midimix that remembered the midi mapping has remembered the midi mappings again, however it has also "remembered" the midi mappings that the other Midimix forgot. That explains how a couple of the knobs on the MidiMix were controlling two volume sliders. To make it easier to understand- midimix that forgot the mappings is the guitar midimix. the midimix that remembered both mappings is the piano midimix. the piano midi mix has "remembered" both the piano midi mappings and the guitar midi mappings- even though the guitar midi mappings were mapped on the guitar midimix. Do you know why this is happening? Do i need to set the MidiMix's to different channels or something? Or is this something i need to speak with the manufacturers of the Midimix about? Thanks, Dan Btw- i'm sorry if the writing in yesterday's post was confusing. I really respect and appreciate your time and help and don't mean to write run-on confusing posts. I am confused about what is going on with this, but I'm trying to explain it as clearly as possible
  7. Thanks fisherking and Jakob! Moving the interface isnt practical bc I have a specific setup to record while shooting videos and there are a few locations where i play instruments. Sorry if i didn't explain it well Jakob. Unless i'm mistaken, master volume does affect the recorded volume and moving the volume sliders on each individual track also affects the recorded volume. I want to change the monitor/headphone volume without changing the recorded volume. Does that make sense? Wouldn't inserting a gain plugin boost the recorded volume as well? As i understand, putting a gain plugin on a track is basically like adjusting the volume slider of that track.
  8. Hi I’m having a few issues with midi mapping. Could you please help? I must have made a mistake, because a couple of the knobs on my Akai MidiMix are controlling two volume sliders. I just want them each to control one volume slider. I am trying to make re-map a knob to control just one volume slider, but Logic isn’t letting me and doesn’t seem to be showing the normal screens for midi mapping. When I click on either one of the volume sliders that is mapped to the physical knob and hit command+L, it only shows me this screen: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sdfblwj1m24r1jy/Screenshot%202017-09-17%2021.57.58.png?dl=0 This is the first time i've experienced this issue. It doesn’t matter if I try clicking the slider again or if I touch the physical knob. It will sometimes flash the following normal screen for a split second, but it won’t let me use it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wi4a79i9x1u9uk7/Screenshot%202017-09-17%2022.01.01.png?dl=0 When I click a different slider, it does let me access that screen. Just not for the ones that are already mapped. EDIT/UPDATE: I fixed this by going into the menu bar and clicking the “learn assignment for volume”, which unchecked it. Shouldn’t this have been happening when I hit the keyboard shortcut though? Was there some sort of bug? Or am I missing something? 2. Also, I tried hitting option+shift+ K or going through the menu bar to access the bigger mappings menu, but it only opened the same window. I’ve seen a bigger window with more mapping options open before- why can’t I access it now? EDIT: Nevermind this question! I realized that the advanced settings for controler services were not on! 3. I have another MidiMix that seemingly keeps forgetting the MIDI mappings. Its been happening with both MidiMix controllers actually for quite a long time, but I finally decided to monitor it closely to solve the issue today and it only happened to one of the MidiMix controllers today. I haven’t been able to diagnose exactly what is going on yet. I midi mapped a few different controls to both of them earlier today. I tried quitting logic and re-opening it and all of the mapped controls were working fine up when I restarted the application. I had to power down my computer by holding the power button because it froze a couple hours later. When I turned it back on, one of the MidiMixes remembered all the mapped controls, and one forgot all of the mapped controls. Do you have any idea why this is happening? Anybody else have issues with Logic forgetting MIDI mappings? Is there something I’m missing? Thanks, Dan
  9. Hi, I am trying to figure out how to change the headphone and monitor volume in Logic. Could you please help? I know that i can use the master volume slider in logic, but I want to adjust my own monitor volume while i am playing through logic (without actually affecting the recording volume). I can do this on my audio interface with the built-in hardware knob, but my interface is across the room from where I usually play my instrument and it would be much easier to be able to adjust it in the software (and i also imagine that this would provide more flexibility to get the monitor volume exactly how i want). I've looked around but haven't been able to find the answer yet, how can i do this? Thanks, Dan
  10. Can anyone please offer some advice about this? Still experiencing this issue and i dont know what to do
  11. Thanks guys! Deleting the file reference and resaving worked perfectly
  12. Thanks triplets. Do you know why Logic is creating these loops? And how to make them stop the loops? And also why was the track playhead jumping back? Do you think that's related to the loops or is that a separate issue? This has happened on multiple projects over the past week. They have all been started on the same template though, could it be that the template is corrupt? Thanks for the advice. The session was a long session of covers during a live stream, so was not concerned about losing the ideas in this situation. Will remember that in future projects though.
  13. Hi, I am trying to figure out why I am getting a popup message every time that I open up logic. Could you please help? I have logic set to open automatically to a template I created called “To OBS w sound flower classical guitar”. Normally it opens fine, but for the past couple of days I have been getting this popup message whenever I start up logic. https://www.dropbox.com/s/yyzrskf2ntps70l/Screenshot%202017-09-02%2023.51.37.png?dl=0 I don’t understand why it’s popping up- as far as I understand, the template does not have anything recorded in the tracks so there should be no audio files that could go missing. Right? Or am I missing something? Here’s the newly opened template https://www.dropbox.com/s/v4sn8flcajrdmzg/Screenshot%202017-09-02%2023.55.53.png?dl=0 When I try hitting locate or search, it just either says that the audio file is not found again or it allows me to browse endless folders in search of it. When I hit skip, it opens logic fine but the popup issue persists on next time I open logic. Is this missing file a problem that I should be concerned about? And how can I make the popup message go away? Thanks, Dan
  14. Thank you Atlas and Jakob! Works perfectly now!! So much better
  15. Hi I am having an issue with the track playhead moving in logic. I’m also confused that logic is looping some of my midi tracks automatically. I’m not sure if these issues are related. Could you please help? The looping tracks issue- I just recorded a brief midi piano part and a vocal simultaneously. After I was done recording, Logic duplicated my piano recording many times automatically (see pic below). Why did this happen? How can I make it stop doing this? https://www.dropbox.com/s/avfzc2lewjij8x4/Screenshot%202017-09-03%2000.00.22.png?dl=0 The track playhead issue- For the past couple weeks, It seems to be happening almost every time that I play simultaneously with a microphone track and a midi keyboard track. What happens is that I will stop recording in between songs and when I hit record again for the next song, the playhead will jump back and start recording over the existing recording. I know that logic normally jumps back to the previous bar to start the recording and count in to the recording place, but in these situations it is going back much further than just one bar. The issue just happened about 10 minutes ago and I took this screen shot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/telj4f2nk5aowkc/Screenshot%202017-09-02%2023.46.52.png?dl=0 The playhead jumped back to around bar 673 when I hit the record button. It continues to jump back to that same place every time that I start recording after i place the playhead back at the end of the timeline, so this makes it very difficult to record (I have only been getting around it by dragging the green piano track back before bar 673). I’m not sure why that dimmed out green lines are on the piano track after both of the brighter green lines on the piano track (not even sure if i played this or if logic is adding it by itself). I also notice that the piano track has indents on the top and bottom at two points. Can someone please explain why it looks like this? It looks similar to the dimmed green lines in the other issue, which makes me think they may be connected. I’m not sure where that came from or why it looks like that. I just tried to replicate this issue to show you what I mean in video, but am not getting the same result right now. Not sure what triggers it yet. Could you please help me understand whats going on? How can I fix this issue? Thanks, Dan
