  1. My problem differs/differed in that the CPU barely moved on the activity monitor while the disk meter spiked irregularly throughout the song. But like You the track count did really seem to matter much. The error message would appear in projects with a lot of track but also in projects with just a few. Anyway, I run my sample libraries, soft synth libraries etc. from external HD via thunderbolt connection (there´s a lot of instruction videos and info to be found on that topic) and there´s never been any problem with that. In my case the problem turned out to be the Lacie HD (a Rugged Mini 7200 rpm) which wasn´t able to stream audio fast enough. When I ran a speed test on that drive the results didn't´t match what´s claimed in the tech specs for that drive. Having said that I know people who are using the very same drive for similar tasks with no problem. My problem were solved by getting another external HD for streaming audio. Though I get the best results by running the audio from the iMacs internal SSD. Active projects are thus now kept and run on the internally and the stored on a larger external HD
  2. I notice this thread is almost 2 years old. Was there ever any solution to this issue? I´m experiencing excactly the same problem. Overnight my Logic x projects are loading extremely slowly. It seems to take forever to load the plug ins
  3. Ok. I will do that. It seems quite a lot of people have had similar issues and that in a lot of cases Waves plug ins have been the ones causing it all. I started using some Waves plug ins a while ago so....... It seems strange that the problem with projects loading so slowly would appear from one day to the next, without any sudden change in the set up
  4. Hi! Did You ever find a solution to this problem? I ran into excactly the same problem today. All of a sudden Logic takes ages to load and it seems the plug ins (both third part and Logics own) are the issue
  5. So that´s a vote for the Thunderbolt/HD daisy chain solution then?
  6. That´s what I did and that´s where my read/write results come from. The drive is a Lacie rugged mini with 7200 rpm and USB3.0 ports. The ports on my iMac are of course USB3.0 too. As well as the cable
  7. Coming to think of it, I do have access to a USB3.0 dock. Maybe buy a SSD for that then?
  8. No, that stops here and now. I´ll use it for Time Machine back up. I´m gonna try out one of those Glyph drives next. A 7200 rpm with 2 thunderbolt2 ports. Thanks everybody for helping out
  9. According to the tech specs it´s a 7200rpm drive. Running first aid in Disk Utility it checks as OK. I´ve also seen other people using the Lacie rugged mini for audio. It´s weird
  10. I just did a speed test on my Lacie drive and it showed 69/63 MB/s for write and read. That´s really slow isn´t it?
  11. Ok, thanks for the tips. I´ll just stream the audio from the system disk for now since that works without issues. Guess I´ll have to live with moving the projects I´m working on back and forth for now
  12. Well, that´s what I´m using at the moment and that obviously doesn't work so....It´s strange though, a friend of mine has almost exactly the same set up as me and his system runs like a dream. Is there a big difference between different makes of drives? Mine´s a Lacie Rugged Mini
  13. Whoops! Turns out my Lacie drive is in fact HD not SSD. Sorry. (it´s so damn quit still) Now, since it´s the one causing my problems the question is, what would be the best alternative as external audio drive; a SSD through USB3 or a fast HD through thunderbolt daisy chained with my sound card?
  14. I have a 7200 rpm HD (Lacie) but it´s got USB 2.0 ports. I´ll see if I can borrow one with USB 3 from a friend later today. I´ll get back to You
