  1. I used to do something similar way back in the days of Soundfonts - the specs of the PC I was using then were not powerful enough to work with lots of audio loops directly in my DAW, but soundfont samples were loaded into some separate ram in my soundcard. So I used to make vast banks of drum loops and other samples, and I loved how easy it was to just cycle through a bunch of different samples on the fly. So yeah, I can definitely see the appeal of doing that with the EXS24, although these days I'm just too lazy The only pitfall really that I remember was that all the samples effectively became "1-shot", in other words I could trigger a sample with a key, but it had to play from the beginning each time. If I wanted to chop up a loop, I would have to first use an audio editor to physically split up the file, then load each piece onto a separate note in the Soundfount patch and then play in the various note combinations as a sequence. But it was quite a cool creative tool though, because I could mess around with the various pieces in real time as the track played, until I liked the result.
  2. Listening to the first two tracks you've posted, I think what you're referring to is the way the bass sound has a kind of "wob-wob-wob" sound to it, In which case I think the way it's been achieved here is to have a slow attack on a low-pass filter cutoff in the instrument. So when you hit a key, the sound morphs from only low frequencies to the full spectrum of the sample in about a quarter of a second, giving a "waa" sound. Keep repeating the note (or play a series of different notes) and you get the classic wob-wob-wob sound. In instruments like the EXS24 you can map one of the ADSR envelopes to the filter cutoff, and then adjust the attack so that it's slow enough to give you the desired sound. The more resonance you set on the filter, the more pronounced the "wob" will be. Hope that helps!
  3. Hi everyone I have just stumbled across this forum while browsing for help on an issue I've been having (that's a topic for another post) so I thought I would sign up here and say hello. I've used Logic for many years so perhaps I can be of assistance, and I'm sure I'll have some questions of my own too. I'm a semi-pro musician / producer and have been working with Logic for more than 10 years now, although I've been making music for more than 20 years. I chased the commercial dream at one stage but I disliked turning my passion into my job since it killed a lot of the magic for me. So these days I do it for the love of it, although I still do some commission work here and there. I work with a number or different genres, but chillout / triphop / downtempo is one of my favorites. Here is a playlist from my YouTube channel which showcases some of my recent work: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_zPIuWaet1CxrWAwk_GPIvQMxXC2vRt Hope to chat more with you folks in future.
