1. just wanted to say thanks for this thread. A lot of useful info here that will be handy while jumping into the midi scripter over the next couple of months.
2. Thanks for your thoughts @3ple and @oscwilde I’m not after a specific sound but was getting a little confused when making sounds from scratch. I have a habit of reaching for FM as shortcut to get somewhere quickly and started to wonder about the implementation. Especially when in series - the way the freq knob also seems to act as a cutoff for the preceding signal. But your explanations make sense. Very interesting read @oscwilde. What you describe would be incredible. I’d settle to be able to modulate one VA source with another VA source. But as you say there are endless ways to arrive at fm-y and other interesting timbres. A little modulation of freq/mod/feedback knobs opens things right up. It’s kind of possible to emulate the way FM8 has seperate envelopes for each operator. The modulation + the additional waves result in sounds I haven’t made in FM8 before, even with the limited implementation. Yes I must admit I haven’t gone too deep on the additive engine yet. I had an a-ha moment the other day when I realised each partial can have it’s own envelope. With only a few partials a lot is possible. I've not downloaded @3ple FM template but will make sure I do!
3. Great post thanks! I noticed some of my patches were a little 'soft' the other day and was trying to figure this out. It become clear when I made a simple patch in reaktor (a saw and an envelope) to compare that I noticed how much slower the attack was in Alchemy. The attack still feels a tiny bit 'slow' or 'soft' but the phase tip really helps! Another thing I noticed was that the global filters have a very slight affect even when they are wide open. So if I'm not using them I turn them off, and set the routing to series or turn the FX dials down to zero. I re downloaded logic a few weeks ago after a couple of years away and have been loving Alchemy also.
4. Hi, looking to better understand how FM works in alchemy. Particularly how the parallel and series filter routing affects the modulator/carrier signal flow. Here's a screenshot of what I think is happening. Is this correct? http://imgur.com/NBv7Gaw (http://imgur.com/NBv7Gaw) Or is there a kind of 'virtual' source duplicated for each filter?
5. This is awesome. Thanks so much for this and your custom wavetable post!
6. I understand and am a pro tools user also. Was just suggesting a hacky work around I've been using in logic. Unfortunately my imgur link was replaced with a truncated .gif which is not very helpful ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
7. it's not exactly a 'batch fade' but just double checking you're aware of the ability to add fades to multiple audio files via the region info pane rather than the fade tool - a quick gif here: Number 1 on my list (since forever now) would be a UI update to the environment window Number 2 while I'm dreaming basic autocomplete in the scripter editor
