  1. Thanks for your reply. I've tried a few different screen resolutions and I'm happy with the one I've chosen, it's the best for overall accessibility without sacrificing too much screen real estate. The Plugin windows are really the only time it's a problem. Some Plugins don't give the option to resize in the "View" menu unfortunately. Also, in these cases, dragging the lower corners simply moves the window, rather than resizing it (I have placed the cursor at the very edge of the window, makes no difference). Does anyone know if there's a solution to this within Logic Pro itself?
  2. Hi, I'm using Logic Pro X 10.8. I have my display scaled for ease of reading, but this makes Plugin windows appear enormous when using Logic Pro X. Is there a way to make them appear about 50% of the size? I seem to remember this being an option a few versions of Logic ago, from the "View" menu at the top of the plugin, but a) I often can't get to the "View" menu because the Plugin is so big, and b) the scaling options don't seem to be there anymore. I also remember that it was possible to scale all Plugins from somewhere in the Preferences menu, but I can't find this option.
  3. I'm trying to install Roland's Zenology Pro software synth, and it keeps crashing Logic's AU validation. I have a valid Roland Cloud membership. My current setup: Logic Pro X (10.5.1) macOS Catalina 10.15.7 Latest Roland Cloud Manager (version unknown, update performed today) Zenology Pro 1.5.1 Here's what I've tried: 1. Contacted Roland Cloud support, they advised me to re-install Cloud Manager, Zenology and Logic, which I did (restarted computer as well). 2. OSX Validate All AUs application. 3. Deleted Logic Preferences. After all of the above steps, I re-scanned the AU. Same result each time: no joy, keep getting the same crash report. I have attached a copy of it in case that's of any use. I'd really appreciate some help with this, I just want to get the darn thing working. I'm beginning to remember why I took an extended break from music production. We spend about 50% of our time troubleshooting stuff like this
  4. I’ve resorted to using an older version of Logic to create the note labels in EXS24. Apple clearly needs to be notified of this issue if it’s not working for anyone
  5. I have followed the instructions (from the manual) to create and save a set of key labels for a sampler instrument. I followed this procedure: 1. Open instrument within Sampler 2. Under "Mapping", go to Edit > Edit Key Labels 3. Create key label set by clicking next to the relevant note and typing the desired names (Kick, Snare, Hi-Hat, etc) 4. Save Key Label Set As > type name of newly created key label set The set is then saved, but when I close the Key Labels dialog box, nothing happens. The labels aren't showing on the piano roll, and I can't see them displayed anywhere in the mapping/zone window within the sampler itself. I then re-open Edit > Edit Key Labels to find that the key label set has reverted to default, i.e. no key labels. My saved set is there in the drop down menu, so I select it; it loads into the Key Labels editor window, and everything is as I specified, no problem. However, again - nothing happens in the actual piano roll, there is nothing to suggest that the labels are actually being applied to the instrument, and when I close and re-open the dialog, the labels have reverted to default once again. Strangely, I have a previous sample instrument made in EXS24 for which I made key labels, and these work: they show up in the piano roll, and when I go to Edit > Edit Key Labels, there they are in the dialog box (I have not had to "save" them, they are simply there from when I edited them in EXS24). Anyone know what's going on here?
  6. Thanks for the suggestion triplets, but unfortunately this didn't work. Any other ideas? Anybody tried this? Thanks in advance
  7. Hi all, Hope someone might be able to help with this. I have performed the following steps in order to record audio from my iPhone into Logic: 1. Connected the iPhone to my MBP via Lightning-USB cable 2. In Audio MIDI setup, enabled my iPhone as an audio input device 3. In Logic Pro X, opened Preferences>Devices and chosen iPhone as the input device, and Built-In Output as the output device I am able to record audio from my phone and listen back to it from Logic, but I can't actually hear any sound whilst I am recording. I can see the waveform as I make sounds on the phone and Logic is having no problems recording whatever I do on the phone, but I can't monitor what I'm doing. Software monitoring and Input monitoring are both turned on within Logic, and I can listen back to what I've done after it's been recorded. Just not hearing anything whilst it's being recorded, which isn't ideal. Any ideas what I'm doing/not doing? Thanks, Will
  8. Just an update on this old thread, I managed to work out the answer a while back (thanks to the above comments!) - basically, when the R button is flashing red with a white 'R' on any track, whether selected or unselected, it will remain the record-enabled track regardless of which other track is currently selected. This feature 'locks' the record-enabling, allowing other tracks to be selected for editing purposes without record-enabling them; useful for the later stages of recording and overdubbing but a bit of a nuisance when initially layering up tracks. The way to stop this behaviour is simply to click the flashing red R button to make it grey with a dark red 'R'. Then, whichever track is selected will become record-enabled. Can't believe the answer was so simple (as many things in LPX are!), I just thought I'd log the solution here in case anyone else gets tripped up by this. Peace, W
  9. Hi all, Apologies if there is already a thread on this somewhere, I can't seem to find one which answers this question. There is one which points to an old link and another which talks about Mapped Instruments, which I am not using so I'm not sure it's relevant. I am using the Roland TR-808 software instrument in Logic Pro 10.3. When inputting notes onto the piano roll, it would be a lot easier if I could see the names of the drums rather than the keys. I use the View menu to select Drum Names, but this option is greyed out. However, there is an option called "Note Labels" which I assume is something which allows you to assign custom names to the piano notes. I can't seem to find a way to change said "Note Labels", and I'm beginning to think this might be for something else. Is there any way to just make it so that "C" says "Kick Drum", for example? Thanks, Will
  10. Thank you for this! I turned Cycle mode off and this corrected the behaviour - I can now record from wherever I set the playhead. However, I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be possible to keep Cycle mode on and still record from wherever you like in a project. Not to worry, this seems to have resolved the issue. Cheers, Will =)
  11. Hi all, I am using Logic Pro 10.3.0 on a 2012 MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra 10.13.3. All I want to do is start recording from the current playhead position by pressing the Record button. However, whenever I hit the Record button, the playhead jumps back to the start every time. So, for example - I set the playhead at bar 50 and press Record. I want to start recording from bar 50, which is where I set the playhead. However, it jumps back to the start. The only way I can get it to record from where the playhead is is by pressing Play first, then pressing Record, which is not ideal if I want to start recording from a very specific place. I previously solved this problem, so I know there is definitely a way of doing it, but can't remember how I did it. If you can help me on this, it will be much appreciated.
  12. Jakob P - it seems to me that you have to select the track, then click record enable. I'm not sure if I may have accidentally changed the setting, but it always seems necessary to manually record enable each track. I keep forgetting and recording on the wrong tracks because I just can't seem to get used to this behaviour, it's such a disruption to workflow. Anyway, any ideas how to switch it back? Are you sure that's the default behaviour (i.e. Each track is ready to record upon selection). Shivermetimbers - thanks for the suggestions, custom key commands do work great! I'm just so used to Cubase automatically arming a selected track, and it would be great to see if there's a way to achieve this in Logic without having to take the extra step. It's not so much having to press record enable that's the problem - it can be done in a split second, of course - it's more that when I forget to do this (which I keep doing) I keep recording on the wrong track, sometimes accidentally recording over something else and then having to sort that out before I can continue. It's really just a workflow thing. Keep the suggestions coming folks, much appreciated!
  13. Hi Logic users, Does anyone know how to make it so that Logic automatically record enables a track when that track is selected? It would really help with workflow to be able to just select a new track and start recording on it rather than having to select, then record enable. As a lifelong Cubase user, whenever I forget that Logic requires you to manually record enable, I end up recording on the wrong track and then having to stop, delete the mistaken recording, then record enable the new track. If there is a way to just select a track and have it be record enabled upon selection, automatically, it would be a massive help. Suggestions/workarounds welcome if this is not possible - I find that Logic has many of its own unique workflow solutions (such as record repeat - very useful!)
