  1. Yes, I created a topic in summer, very similar random 'system overload' messages: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=151714&p=793544#p793544 There's been other topics on this subject since then too. No solutions found, as you say very annoying considering the price of the laptop, running Apple's own DAW. My solution was to move to Ableton Live for live work
  2. Yes I'm sure lots of us in the same boat on this one. I've put off upgrading to Catalina on my 2017 iMac, mostly due to (non-music) software compatibility. Quick question - once I install the catalina dmg from Dewdman42's instructions and the mac is updated, I assume/hope/guess regular future catalina updates will be available?
  3. Hi Omar17166 - yes I have the same issue, on a 2019 16" MBP, 32gb ram, small number of tracks. A few system overloads at the start of the session then everything worked. The solution? Downgrade from 10.5.1 to 10.4.8 - works good now, but I find it obviously frustrating Apple's latest version of Logic is glitchy on a new laptop.
  4. A brief update. More 'system overload' messages when opening an instrument while the project is playing (Arturia's Pigments). 'Loading Plug-in' appears briefly, then the 'system overload' message - just once. Anyway I think it was Logic 10.5 where launch time was made faster by not preloading all plugins on tracks? I've gone back to version 10.4.8 for now and all *seems* good now. Seems crazy I can't trust the latest version of Apple's Logic on one of their newest laptops running the latest OS though. However a working system beats a glitchy one!
  5. @LagartijaNick - yes sounds pretty identical. Maybe this issue isn't uncommon..... @triplets - icloud drive was checked, I have turned it off. Maybe it was trying to sync and failing due to no internet? Would this cause a spike?
  6. Hello everyone. I’ve been having the ‘System Overload’ message intermittently on a new 16” 2019 MBP. I’m running Logic Pro X 10.5.1 and Catalina 10.15.6 I’m checking the CPU load in Logic, it’s never above 20%, then a quick spike and the System Overload message. This will happen 4 or 5 times, usually at the start of a session, happens whichever project is loaded, large or small. After it happens a few times, everything returns to normal, no glitches. Whether peripherals are attached or not, wifi on or off - seems to make no difference. The laptop is 5 months old, 32gb ram, i9 8-core so I’m pretty sure it’s not a buffer issue. It even happens on a small 10 track project - all midi, and mostly internal Logic instruments. This wouldn’t really be anymore than an inconvenience but I have recently started collaborating with another musician and we play outdoors to the public. It’s difficult to be more precise, I guess what I’m asking is where to start looking in the logs when this happens? I’ve pasted below the Apple System Log for the relevant time period of a glitch. Does anyone know if Activity Monitor can help me? Also I did reset the NVRAM and SMC and didn’t experience glitches for 4 days. I have also copied the NVRAM contents and can post if needed. I'm not sure which logs to look at - nor do I really understand what they are saying, but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction or translate! The log below seems to refer to a service failing - could this cause a glitch? I guess as Logic didn’t crash, it might not be reported in any logs? Thanks for reading this. 7. Thanks, I'll check it out. It would be nice if Logic could use Ableton Link or similar.....
  8. Eriksimon - thanks for the information, will check these are the same on both computers.
  9. Triplets - Yes in Logic Midi sync settings, clock, mtc and mmc are checked.
  10. I have recently started collaborating with another electronic musician. I am using Logic as the Master, he is syncing with a Windows laptop running Reason 11. We are having syncing issues and I noticed the clock is showing a different time even when the position markers are identical. Maybe under half a second on a project 110bpm, 30 or so bars in. Example Logic song position 30.1.1.1 , Time 1:03:06.65 Reason 30.1.1.0 (starts at 0 not 1?), Time 1:02:63.53 The gap increases the longer we play. Is this linked to the latency offset we use to get in sync? (I don't have his laptop on hand, so not sure what the offset used was). I know this is a complicated topic, and it's hard to describe exactly what was happening, but I would have thought both clocks would have to be exactly the same? We are using 2 Behringer UMC404HD boxes as audio interfaces, connected via midi cable. I was wondering if others have had this issue, and what is the easiest way to connect 2 DAWs on 2 different computers? I have been reading a lot about this online, but seem to be going round in circles...... Thanks for reading, and any assistance. Tim
  11. Updated to 10.4.2 - all seemed good until I went to OS Mojave. After that I got the 'Illegal 2' message. Just went back to 10.4.1 and it's all stable again. I highly recommend copying 10.4.1 (or whatever solid working version you are using) and renaming in an alternate location - saved me hours of mucking about. Is 10.4.2. extra buggy??
  12. Thanks for the replies. I had a 2009 iMac for nearly 8 years and it was always ok waking up from sleep mid-session, but I can see it makes sense to cleanly quit Logic periodically. I am beginning to suspect the Presonus which is new to my setup, but not new as it was passed to me by a friend. I have noticed the power light on the presonus flashing sometimes - according to the manual this means it has lost sync with Logic. I did get a dialog box saying 'last used audio device not available' but it reset itself on clicking ok to the message. Now it just seems to crash Logic without the warning. As suggested I'm going to run Logic thru the internal speakers to test this........
  13. Hello David, thanks for the reply. Other than Logic's own, I am using M-Tron Pro, Analog Lab, Analog Lab 2, Novation BassStation 2, V-Station and TAL Noisemaker. All of these are listed as 'successfully validated' in Logic's plug-in manager.
