How to make an automation track on the entire project?

In GarageBand I have noticed there is an option to hear your own instrument as you play and record, and I was wondering if Logic has a similar feature? If anyone could let me know I'd appreciate it.

I changed the input in the channel strip to 'in1-2' and it seems to be working now.

Whenever I try and record my own audio, whether I'm using built-in input, recording through the mic connected into my audio interface, or selecting my iPhone as a midi device, whenever I hit record all I get is a flat line. I've checked all my hardware is working correctly, I've been into Logic's preferences to check that the correct input device is selected and I've checked that my track is 'record-enabled'. No matter what I try I continue to receive no audio signal. Can someone help? - FYI I know it must be a problem with Logic, as I've tried recording audio in GarageBand and it works as normal.
