  1. Hello David ... that's really fine advise and information access .. thank you. Following your notes about the M1, it seems that there's an update 'likely' for the Mac Mini which might happen in November .. 'rumours' suggest it could be perfect for a next generation leap but I take on board your note about various plugins which may still be some time. I'm going to take a look at your links now ... and cogitate! Much appreciated.
  2. Thanks so much Atlas007 ... that face has been around for a while too! That's incredibly informative and kind of you sir.
  3. Hello gang! I haven't been here for sometime having had a happy life for over 12 years working on a 2008 Mac Pro -32 gig RAM - 3 gig processor - 8 core - that took me as far as El Capitan and Logic ProX 3 ... so indeed the life of blissful Luddite! (I'm sure I remember connecting with folk here using Logic TDM & Protools Mix Plus?!) However .. the time has come for change and pain ("on a budget" ... I'm curious about the possibility of new Mac Mini M1 follow up... if announced next month?) I've done a quick search and couldn't spot a thread of recent "stable systems" and wonder if anyone might be kind enough to either point me to one or indeed take up the question directly? I've been working since the late 1970's and Mac Pro worked in sync to picture mixing in 5.1 (new Logic spatial stuff sounds interesting ... so does that dictate 7.1?) ... replacing MOTU 828 mk 2 with another box ... looking for Ultra-wide monitor to replace the need for two old ones. Which Mac? How much RAM do folk use ... something to work with East West Play (I had v 4 ... so update?) & Kontakt 5 (or update?)+ Vienna plugs + EXS 24 (replacement?) + Omnisphere v2 + audio for live musicians. Pain ... pain ... pain? With my warmest regards to everyone (old and new!) Richard
  4. Hi Morpheo Just a thought ... there is a picture on all 3 monitors (via 2 x DVI + DP to HDMI cable) but I'm struggling to get 3 displays to show up in system prefs "arrange display" window .... the DP port is mirroring the main screen. Anything that you think i might try? Bestest Richard
  5. Hello Morpheo ...THANK YOU SO MUCH ... I've wondered if this was actually the case but of all the forums I've visited ... nobody has actually known about this Flashed version of the 5770. I've not found any reference to it aside from a site that explains how to flash the card. Nowhere has anyone actually experience of it or suggested this as a possibility. Do you have personal experience with it or just referenced this somewhere? Whatever .. this is great to know. Many thanks My best to you ... Richard
  6. Many thanks for reporting in ValliSoftware ... sadly my Mac Pro 3,1 only carries USB 2. But thanks for the thought.
  7. Apologies for this blast from the past: I'm going back to an old Mac Pro 3,1 OSX 6.8 which came with a Radeon 2600XT as standard graphics and need to add a 3rd monitor for external movie out from within Logic to an LED screen (2 computer monitors and 3rd LED screen are 60 hertz 1920 x 1080 ... so not heavy duty image wise) Does anybody have a view as to the most cost effective way to achieve this? Is it still necessary to use expensive convertors on outputs from something like a Radeon 5770, or is it possible to simply add an extra card to achieve a 3rd display? Many thanks Richard
  8. Hello Ski and Blue Monkey (this is "Dick the flick" as was here - but i can't get back into my original account Peter) ... I have a ridiculous addendum to this after reading about all this again. My original graphics card was a Radeon 260XT and I recently purloined a Sapphire ATI 5770 GDDR5. I sadly now realise that the card was flashed for Mac, as it has an unusual combination of outputs only originally available for PC. I have another thread running with this subject but having read your note again ... put the basics here: The Sapphire Radeon 5770 has 2 x DVI outputs / standard HDMI output / Display Port output. Using 2 x DVI outputs as as 2 main computer monitors ... the 3rd monitor comes out of DP port with cable running into HDMI on Panasonic LED Cinema screen ... all 3 monitors are 1920 x 1080. (I tried the HDMI port output from 5770 but seemingly no signal.) All 3 displays have a picture and come to life in the following boot-up sequence :- DP > HDMI lead and the 3rd screen now boots first (on external LED screen) but will only mirror the main screen. ("Mirror" option in System Prefs is turned off) When looking at Display arrange window in system prefs there are only 2 screens ... yet the 3rd monitor does now boot up before my 2 main computer monitors? Do you think I'm on a mission to nowhere attempting to make 3 displays turn up in System Prefs Arrangement window as 3 independent screens ? I've tried zapping PRAM but wonder if my intention to run a 3rd screen is not actually possible with this card? After much pain wondering around Mac forums .. I can't find any reference to this Mac flashed card, except for an ancient instruction about "how to" make the flash. There seem to be no references anywhere to running this card on a Mac ... sorry to be so boring, but i just wondered if either of you have anything to suggest trying before I take the darned thing out! Would it even be possible to achieve a 3rd Monitor by adding my original 2600 XT ? (i.e. 2 DVI outputs from 2600XT and a 3rd from the 7550 or vice versa?) With all best wishes Richard
  9. Thanks indeed Triplets ... I'm beginning to wonder if that's the case. I'm just surprised that nobody seems to relate to this scenario ... perhaps it's a really unlikely combination that was unique to some clever whizz. i.e. This particular combination of PC card and Mac flashing? I've just put out a note on MacRumours and in a sea of old Mac Pro junks, nobody seems to have sailed in that particular vessel. As always with these things, it would be great to know one way or the other and this card with Mac flash doesn't pick up much response.
  10. How do folk set up 3rd Monitor in System Prefs "displays arrange"? (apologies ... I realise this is a question that is impossible to navigate unless having my specific set-up)
  11. Does anyone know how to get all 3 displays to show up in System Prefs Displays - "Arrangement" ? (currently just showing 2 computer monitors that are connected to DVI outputs) ) The system is booting up with main screen appearing on Panasonic LED (out of DP ... cable converting to HDMI) ... followed 20 seconds later by both computer monitors coming on simultaneously (out of 2 DVI outputs) The main screen with Apple Menu is mirrored in the Panasonic LED ... yet even though it comes on at boot up ... it doesn't appear as a 3rd displays option. (System Prefs Displays showing both computer monitors @ 1920 x 1080 - 60 hertz ... and Panasonic LED is the same spec) My aim is to use the 3rd screen to route movie from within Logic externally. Does anyone have this experience of this. Thanks R
  12. I've just tried zapping PRAM ... still only 2 displays showing when 3 are working?
  13. Morning, I now have an output via DP > HDMI lead and the 3rd screen now boots first (on external LED screen) but will only mirror the main screen. ("Mirror" option in System Prefs is turned off) When looking at screen arrange window in system prefs there are only 2 screens show up ... yet the 3rd monitor does now boot up before my 2 main computer monitors .. I've search Apple forums and now aware that this card must have been blown with Apple firmware. Anyone have any ideas? All best wishes R
