Hello all,
I'm a long time Pro Tools user and have recently purchased Logic Pro X. So far I'm loving how flexible and creative the workflow is in the Midi department of Logic. Coming from Pro Tools, I'm having some trouble wrapping my head on how logic deals with recording and punching in performances.
In Pro Tools, I can easily position and enable my Pre Roll flag, set my selection or punch point in the timeline and go to town. It's pretty straight forward. I know Logic utilizes Auto Punch and a few other features. I'm trying to come up with a work flow that doesn't result in showing me my takes in the takes folder. When I use Replace with Auto Punch (for an open ended punch point without a designated punch out point) it deletes all regions ahead in the timeline. Disabling Replace eliminates the deleting problem, but then I'm stuck with looking at tons of takes after every punch. Is there a way to utilize Replace without it deleting all regions ahead in the timeline? Or is there a way to somehow disable the Takes Folder view (when not using Replace)? Also, is there a way to somehow set up Pre Roll locations visually (similar to how PT uses pre and post roll flags)?.
Also, I've finally figured out how to use tap tempo within Logic. The only thing I'm trying to figure out now is how to use it at a tempo change. For example, when mapping tempos with a guitar player...I'll usually have them play the riff while I tap out the tempo and set the tempo for that part. I do this for every tempo change in a song in PT. For some reason Logic only allows me to use tap tempo for the initial tempo of the song. When I insert tempo changes in the timeline, it won't let me utilize Tap Tempo anymore. Is there a way around this?
I've searched high and low and can't find any information on either situation. Thanks for any tips that might point me in the right direction!
