  1. Thanks for the book, I'm getting a lot out of it. I try to spend an hour a day with it. When I got to chapter 5, I had to take this MIDI keyboard detour, but I think I've got it under control. Today I plugged in my MM8 after Mac started and Logic started. No sound from keyboard. Quit and restarted Logic, Still nothing. Restarted Mac with MIDI keyboard on and plugged in. That did the trick, but I did not expect that. Does that make sense? While I was working through this, I did not know I needed to restart the computer with certain changes. Anyway, in chapter 5, in the part where you described how to map software midi controls back to the hardware, you said, push learn and then turn any knob on the keyboard. Well, I don't think I'd have thought of the controls beyond the modulator and pitch bender. Another lightbulb, thanks!
  2. Got the MIDI Monitor downloaded. Demonstrated that the MM8 is sending signals. Started chapter 5 again, this time I got it working. I can't say I know what it was that I did to make it work, but I'm good now. Thanks for your help. Dave
  3. I see that MIDI monitor is a free download. I'll give that a try.
  4. Correct. Yesterday I went through Appendix B and my Yamaha MM8 and it feels like I'm getting closer. Still no triggering, though. I'm spending some time in the Audio MIDI setup utility, and I'll try the same experiment, Appendix B, today with my Roland Gaia. Keyboard into computer via USB cable. Logic Pro on the other end, and some "wiring" through the computer to the application. I can see the external devices "Synthesizer 1" and "2" (pg. 487) in Logic while I cannot see the MM8 MIDI driver, so that's progress. But pressing the keyboard keys doesn't play through yet. Is there something I have to do with the Network item in Audio MIDI Setup? Great book, btw, I'm up to chapter 5 and took a detour to get my MIDI keyboards working.
  5. I am trying to use my MIDI associated with my MM8 and Gaia keyboards. I've connected the keyboards via USB to my Mac, and have the drivers installed. Indeed, the control panel shows the drivers and all looks correct. I have set correctly, I believe, the MM8 configuration through the utility menu. Everything looks good, I setup a project with a track Software Instrument and External MIDI. However, when I play the keyboard, nothing happens. It feels like I'm missing something, but I don't know what. Anyone have an idea for me? Thanks, Dave
