Hello, I would massively appreciate your help in understanding recording levels.
I use an audient id22 to record into logic, the id22 software shows a level of -15 on average , however when I listen back in logic the level recorded is closer to -30.
I tried to do some troubleshooting myself for this and found people saying that to see accurate levels in logic, I should mute the channel strips in the id software and enable software monitoring in logic and monitor inside logic during tracking.
I did this and levels were accurate (levels were the same as shown in logic during tracking as during playback)
however I still don’t understand why my levels are so low, all around around -30, I am using:
For vocals- sm58 > great river pre at almost maximum gain > id22 > logic
.
For acoustic guitar - An sm57 > audient id22’s pres at almost at maximum gain > logic.
Can someone please help me understand this I’m worried I’m recording at too low a level and the S/N ratio will affect things further down the line?
I’m using logic 10.4.0
Thanks
Peter
