  1. I was nearly finished with a live recording (aprox 1hr 10min long). I went back to the beginning to give it another listen before I bounced it and found that nothing sounded right. Upon inspection I found that all of my Logic compressors had changed to Platinum Digital and they all had the same default settings. And EQ's (Waves F6) had all lost their settings. I'm not sure what else has suddenly lost its settings. Did I inadvertently hit an "I hate my life" command that I'm not aware of or is this yet another issue with 10.5?
  2. Hecdog, What you're talking about wouldn't be a problem if I was working on a 3 minute song. But I'm working on a film and having everything clearly laid out and labeled is really important. To try to remember or notate if a particular audio file was previously used and where in the timeline it was used before adds hours and hours of work and frustration. I'm not sure why Logic is changing the name of the region instead of simply adding onto it at the end. It doesn't make sense even from a music stand point. If I was using an 808 and I had the audio file labeled 808 and I imported it at one point in the song and then I decided I wanted to use it in another place so I grab the file and place it where I want - but this time it comes in labeled 809 and then 810. How does this make sense and how is one to keep things clear? From what I can remember, Logic used to simply add a period followed by a number that would grow sequentially each time that region was spliced or re-added to a project. Does anyone know how to go into any setting on Logic that would changed the way that it handles the naming of regions? Without this being resolved I may be forced to find another DAW. I really like Logic, but I can't justify having to spend the time to create, update and search a spreadsheet because Logic changes the region name instead of simply adding to the region name.
  3. I've been looking but I can't find any info on how Logic handles region names to see if there is a setting that can be changed.
  4. It doesn't appear to matter where I drag the file from - the name changes after the initial region is created.
  5. Hey Atlas007, I'm dragging the files from the "All Files Browser". The files were not recorded in Logic (recorded on site during filming). And keeping the file name the same is really important because it's the date "103117" followed by an underscore and the take "025". It looks just like this: "103117_025.WAV". I have a spreadsheet that lists every take with any additional details I need. When the Take number gets changed by Logic (rather than adding a .01 or .02) everything gets incredibly confusing really fast. This is the third documentary that I've done the dialogue editing and re-recording using Logic Pro X. But it's the first one that I've worked on using 10.4.4. Did something get changed in the latest version or have I messed something up? Thanks for your help.
  6. Hey Engineers, Something has changed recently and it's driving me mad. I have an audio file named 103117_025.WAV. When I drag it into Logic Pro the file is analyzed and the region names is automatically changed to 103117_029.WAV. I delete the region and drag in the original audio file. Now it's named 103117_030.WAV. I'm working on a documentary and I'm grabbing audio file X and using it in location X and Z. But every time I pull an audio file into logic to audition it, the region name changes. Previously it would simply change with a period followed by a number. For example: 110217_09.4 and 110217_09.5 Did I change a setting without knowing it? Thanks, AA
  7. I hadn’t thought about that. Thanks so much for the tip. I’ll try it out.
  8. It actually does start at 1 hour. But I use the "smpte view offset" feature so that it visually matches with the timecode that's embedded on the film from the editor.
  9. Here's what I'm up against: I import a movie and the xml or aaf file from the film editor. I check for sync and get everything lined up. It doesn't start lined up but after a little bit of work I get everything set. And then I do the following: 1. Smpte lock all of my regions. 2. Connect smpte-locked regions to movie. And everything flows nice and looks like this: The problem occurs when I grab a tempo marker and adjust it to the left. Everything gets out of sync as shown in the image below. Notice that the audio track that's visible in this picture now starts before 00:00:00.00 I've checked the project Movie settings and preferences. I've tried locking the movie track. I've tried having "Connect smpte-locked regions to movie" enabled and disabled. Is there something I'm missing or is this a "live with it" problem with Logic Pro 10.4.4? Thanks, Andy
  10. The Movie Project and Preference settings are all in place.
  11. Hey helpful people, Here's something that I've found after working on a few audio post projects (documentaries and commercials): When I import a movie and de-embed the audio, I find that it's out of sync with the movie by 00:00:01.04 (that's 1 frame and 4 subframes). And the audio that I import is synced with the movie (these are imported via xml or aaf). It's only the audio that's been de-embeded from the movie file that's off. For the project that I just imported I'd asked the video editor to add Tone and Bars (1kHz Tone and color bars) at the beginning of his edit. He started with 1 second of black followed by 6 seconds of Tone & Bars and followed this with 3 seconds of black (so the movie actually starts at 10 seconds). This was wonderfully helpful in seeing how the de-embeded audio was off and that the imported audio files (from aaf) lined up beautifully with the picture. Has anyone else seen this? Do you find it to be right at 01.04? Yes - my frame rates of my project match the frame rate that the video editor was using (Logic recognizes any change and asks if I want to adopt the frame rate of the project that I'm importing). Thanks, Andy
  12. Hello helpful people, Everything falls apart when I'm Importing FCPX XML that is coming from someone else, on another computer, far, far away. Every. Single. Time. I receive an audio post project from someone that edited their film in FCXP, when I get their XML only half of the files import correctly. Even if I receive all of the media from them, the location audio, the camera audio, everything - it's screwed up every time. And I spend HOURS trying to get things in the right place. The video editor that I normally work with has worked out a system with me so that manually finding the missing pieces isn't as hard as it used to be. But I just picked up another job with a new client and the import is a total train wreck. Is there anyone *with experience* in receive projects from other people that could give me some help? Thanks, Andy
  13. I'm working on a short documentary film. I'm using some pre-recorded music as well as scoring some parts myself. I have all of the dialogue, SFX, Ambient, Etc. Smpte Locked. What I'd love to be able to do is adjust the tempo/time signature at certain points AND have the measure restart at these specific points. For instance, the opening is at 59.94 bpm and it starts at SMPTE 00:00:00.00 and measure 1 1 001. And then at SMPTE 00:45:07.00 the tempo jumps to 110bpm and the measure is 12 2 280. I'd like to measure to re-start at this point to 13 1 001 (or anything that will give me the down beat at this SMPTE point in time). I'll be needing to do this throughout this project - over and over again. I've tried using beat mapping - but either it's not made for this or I'm doing it wrong (very likely). Any help is greatly appreciated.
  14. It took me a minute to realize that what was causing me some confusion is that my "Undo History" time line is off by a whole hour. My computer shows one time and the undo history shows another. Does anyone know how to set the time of day in Logic? Thanks -
  15. Success! There is a way to SMPTE lock all Track Automation at once! Here's how you do it: 1. Select any track and open the Automation Event List by pressing CONTROL-COMAND-E 2. In the top left corner of the Automation Event List is the "Leave Folder" button (the button has an upward pointing arrow). Press this button. 3. Now you'll see ALL of your automation events for the entire project. Select All. 4. Press FUNCTION-COMAND-DOWN ARROW to SMPTE lock all your automation. Now you can adjust your tempo as needed and your Automation will be locked to SMPTE. To have your regions locked to SMPTE simply select your regions and press FUNCTION-COMAND-DOWN ARROW.
