  1. I'm venturing into creating my first mixtape. Being a newbie in this art form, I'd appreciate some guidance on the following: 1- I have a Pioneer ddj 400 which is great for live performances. Do you recommend I use this controller (together with Rekordbox) to mix the songs and record the mixtape, or do you recommend I use another software (e.g. Ableton Live)? 2- Can mixes be created using songs coming from streaming platforms (e.g. Spotify, Beatport Link), or is it strictly necessary to download the song audio files to manipulate them and mix them into the overall mixtape? 3- Some songs are available on Beatport, some on Spotify, some on YouTube, etc... what's the best way to unify songs coming from different sources into single mixtape? I'm curious to learn about your workflows. Thank you!!
  2. I'm trying to export a MIDI file to open it in another project using the Export as MIDI File function. The original MIDI looks like this: But when I open the exported MIDI file (in both a new or the existing project), it looks like this :S I tried solving the problem in different ways following Apple's advice https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12960?locale=en_US but can't seem to find the solution: - When I do an export of a different MIDI region in the same project, the export works perfectly fine. I guess the problem has to do with this particular MIDI region. - I flattened the STRINGS stack and did another export, but that didn't solve the problem. Please note that both VIOLIN and CELO tracks have the same export problem. - I changed the instrument of the VIOLIN to another VST and the problem is still there, so it's a MIDI file problem - I opened the MIDI file in Ableton and there problem is still there, so it's an export problem, not an import problem from Logic - I Normalized Region/Cell parameters and Apply Quantization Permanently, but that didn't change anything - I changed the General Preferences of Logic to export MIDI files as both Format 0 and not Format 0 midi, but that didn't change anything Do you know how to solve this problem?
  3. Even though my audio track is not muted (and turned on), regions are still dark and muted. I tried Soloing the track, but the audio regions are still muted: What am I doing wrong?
  4. I was doing exactly as you say. Just realized that my problem was that the attack was way too short compared to the tutorial, and Alchemy's envelope UI was not great at showing me the attack seconds. Was able to solve it by turning the attack way up. Thank you David! This forum is great!!!!
  5. I'm trying to follow a synth tutorial where they modulate pitch (min 4 ). I'm doing it using Alchemy. It looks like there's no single single pitch knob but two Coarse and Fine tune knobs. I tried modulating voice A's Coarse knob using its Envelope, following the tutorial, but the pitch bend doesn't work as in there. I tried changing the Depth and creating a new envelope (e.g. AHDSR2) but I can't make it work: Can somebody point me in the right direction? Thank you!
  6. Problem solved! I SMTPE all midi tracks, changed the project tempo, and then adjusted the audio tracks tempo using the Smart Tempo option. Thank you robinloops!
  7. The new mockup project has both audio and midi tracks. For audio tracks, I can do as you say. But for midi tracks, their length remains the same which means that they play twice as fast as they should. I can manually edit all midi files to fit the new tempo but it's a LOT of work. Is there an automatic way to do it?
  8. Hi! I'm re-doing an old song of mine, recorded with all midi tracks in 130 bpm. I did a new "mockup" Logic project, with the new song structure and melodies having both midi and audio tracks. While the song effectively follows the same 130 bpm tempoIn, this new Logic project is set on 65 bpm, so all audio and midi recordings have double the length of the old 130bpm's. I want to use the "mockup" project as the foundation to re-build the song from scratch, importing midi files from the original, and I'm facing a problem: I don't know whether I should switch the tempo of my mockup (and adjust tracks accordingly) so I can easily import the midi tracks of the old song, or if I should keep the project in 65bpm, and adjust all the midi tracks of the old song (cutting their tempo in half). Therefore, my questions are: 1- From a Logic's standpoint, is there any difference to work at 65 bpm or 130 bpm? I don't want to do all this manual work of adjusting the tempo of midi files to then realize that working at one tempo was better than the other (By tempo I mean the project's tempo, because the effective tempo of the song will remain the same). 2- Is there a manual way to only cut the tempo of midi tracks by half without affecting the global tempo of the project? I found a way to cut the length of the notes by half but that doesn't affect the tempo. Thank you!
  9. Oh! The solution was in front of my eyes and I couldn't see it :S Thank you David!! Btw, I found an alternative solution to my original problem: duplicate the DMD region and keep one in Step Sequencer mode while the other one is converted to MIDI. In that way, you will not have lost the Step Sequencer option.
  10. Thank you David. I changed the division to /64 using the Custom Bar and I see the changes in the piano roll but not in the Tracks view. Is there a way to see it in the Tracks view as well?
  11. Yes but that doesn't solve the problem of the grid vision in arrangement being quite sparce. I'd like for it to be subdivided in /32 or /48. For example, in the picture above it's impossible to see where in the grid the hi-hats fall.
  12. I'm using the new drum machine designer (DMD) to create a beat. I start by throwing a bunch of samples to the DMD, arranging them using the Step Sequencer, then converting it to MIDI, and finally separating it by note pitch so I can have each sample on a different track. The Step Sequencer makes it really easy to see how each of the samples fit in the grid, compared to the other samples out there (kick, snare, hi-hats, etc). However, when I arrange the beat to turn it into a song, I need to add a few 808 and noise samples in different sections. Since my original beat is already in MIDI and divided in different tracks, the new samples cannot be played using the Step Sequencer but in MIDI via the piano roll, each on its own track. Therefore, Logic's arrangement grid division makes it super hard to visually understand the positions of the new samples compared to the other MIDI tracks: I know I can change the grid division in the piano roll but that wouldn't solve the problem, as I need to see relative positions between tracks, not within the same track. I also tried consolidating all the tracks again into a single track, but that's cumbersome and doesn't work. is there a way to change grid divisions in the arrangement view? If not, how could I get a better visual sense of how the new samples are positioned with respect to the other samples of the beat if I cannot use the Step Sequencer anymore? Thank you!
  13. I tried Ultrabit and found it very unintuitive and hard to use. As far as I understand, I couldn't make Drum Designer a sequencer.
  14. Hi! I recently switched to Logic Pro X from Ableton Live, where I was a big fan of using the drum rack to import samples and design a beat through midi. I'm not a big fan of Logic's sampler stock plugins, I find them really hard and not intuitive to use. The closest thing I found to the drum rack is Fxpansion's Geist, which has a similar UI to Ableton's drum rack and allows you to easily sequence it there. Any other recommendations for great plugins that allow me to do this and are very simple to use? Thank you!
