  1. Hi all, I get the feeling I need to prepare myself for disappointment! Is there a simple workaround for fact that I wish to use a specific drum element from a producers kit, for example a kick, as a side chain for the bass? I know I can send it to a bus and then use that as the SC input, but it seems like a massive pain to create an extra bus, and then have to deal with its own output in a tidy fashion rather than just use the source. The problem is that all producer kits appear as a summing stack rather than "first level" elements in the mix. Thanks! Mark
  2. Interesting but still mystifying because, as a software developer with 20 years experience, I know better than to ever use a slash in a name. in fact, I never even did much as open the project browser in Logic until much more recently. Now with all that said, I do use a backup program called goodsync on my projects folder. I don’t why it would do such a thing, nor do I think it did, but it is certainly not I’m possible that it tweaked something while copying which resulted in this error even though the package files themselves retained the correct names. Maybe some kind of “touch” occurred on the package files that disrupted things. Either way, up and running and making music so it’s a story with a happy ending!
  3. Thanks for taking your time to discuss this with me! The good news I was able to work around it with a little diligence.
  4. Hi David. Yes, understood, but there was no file renaming on my part, thus the mystery. The backup disks were formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" which I think should be OK, but perhaps not? Either way, I am able to "reconnect" the files using the dialog you showed above so ultimately, it's a solvable problem with a tedius but easy workaround. Just a bit very minor hassle that is sermountable.
  5. I had them backed up on a external hard drive and tried to work on them from there when I plugged that hard drive into the new computer. At no point did I ever specify any colons, nor indeed any file names at all. Everything was stored within the Logic package. For what it’s worth, they were saved using Logic 10.5 (or whatever was the last version that was compatible with Mojave.) Furthermore, the files were correctly stored in the package with the appropriate underscores. The mystery to me is reduced to one simple question. Why is Logic asking for a file with a colon name when the packages don’t have them and in fact, such file names aren’t even supported in OSX? I thought the entire point of saving as a package was that it allowed for this kind of streamlined portability without the user having to manage the audio as this was handled internally by Logic.
  6. That’s the big question. I have zero idea! All I did was select sage as package and that’s it. I never did anything other than name the tracks. I certainly never attempted to use a colon. I just let Logic save the audio however it saw fit, within the package. Its bizarre!
  7. Indeed. But it’s weird. I saved as a package in order to ensure the files remain with the project and sure enough, Logic is not smart enough to use them. Lesson learned. Never use packages!
  8. Interesting but still doesn’t address why Logic is u able to find a file that is literally inside the project package. Enormously inconvenient!
  9. Indeed! Which begs the question, why is it expecting the colon in the first place? I’ve looked inside the package (a colonoscopy?) and I only see underscores. So, the question is, where and why are does it think there was ever a colon and why can’t it (not to get all new agey or anything), look inside itself?
  10. Greetings good people! I am restoring a "packaged" (ie, not folder based) logic project to a new machine. for some reason it can't find any of the files even though it is a self contained project. I wound up having to copy all the files from within the package into the project directory and then one by one, locating them there. Extremely tedious given that it is already in the package. Is there some magic way to get Logic "look inside yourself". Jeez. I sound like I'm giving guru advice but you know what I mean! One thing I have found is that package files have slightly different nomenclature. I am mocing from a non-M1 Mojave to an M1 Montery machine. For example, Logic will ask to locate file "TrackName:Comp A Merged.aif" and I have to load "TrackName_Comp A Merged.aif" in its place. This of course prompts a warning causing me more unnecessary stress, although the audio, once loaded, does indeed work fine. (See image for typical error). I am assuming that the ":" is some kind of package nomenclature that can't be used in the normal file system but I surely shouldn't have to locate anything anyway when the darn thing is saved as a self-contained package. In fact, I thought that was the very POINT of doing it that way! Cheers! Mark
  11. I wanted to get this resolved as soon as possible so I simply bit the bullet by deleting the library and starting again from scratch. I made an interesting and I think important observation. Interestingly, you cannot relocate the Sound Library until you have downloaded at least some smart of it. I did that (the part known as "the essentials") and then relocated the library to an external drive. Relocating the library works not by a simple path change in Logic's configuration, but rather by creating an alias of the system disk's Library/Application Support/Logic folder to the Library/Application Support/Logic of the external disk you moved the content to. However, when you perform future downloads, this alias is temporarily suspended and content is downloaded to the system drive. Once the instruments are downloaded and installed, the alias is then re-established automatically. Why does this matter? Because if you don't have much room on your system drive you will get into trouble when it comes time to unpack the download contents, which from what I can tell, happens before it gets moved to the alternative location you configured. Anyway, by doing it in small chunks, I avoided any system disk storage issues, as well as any download crashes or failures. I now have the complete set of library sounds properly installed.
  12. Hello! I just installed Logic 10.7.8 on a new Mac M1. I had a lot of problems with downloading instruments, with constant "internet" related issues even though my internet is categorically fast enough. In fact, it was always the "installing" part where it failed, rather than the downloading part. Eventually, after many tries I was able to get it done. I moved the library to an external drive and then downloaded the remainder of the instruments. However, for some reason there are a handful that show as NOT downloaded even though the Sound library manager shows nothing as Not Installed. Some Logic Pro instruments are missing even though they downloaded per the Sound Library Manager. As you can see below, the Classic Clean guitar for example is missing. When I click on the download icon next to a category or individual patch, nothing happens. No errors, no nuthin'! So I used the download all uninstalled option just in case it would help and it downloaded 12GB of files, installed them without a complaint and yet the only patches that remain unavailable are the ones that WERE actually still uninstalled. Is there no way to repair a sound library? This is starting to really feel flakey. Most instrument libraries offer "repair" or "reinstall" options for individual instruments. The inability to actually to point Logic to a new library location AFTER moving it is in itself quite unusual but I can live with it. This inability to repair a clearly broken installation is quite odd. Note, I AM an administrator on this machine so permissions shouldn't be a problem, but I am open to any suggestions. Many thanks for any available advice. See the images below for a visual fix on my library. Mark
  13. I think when I said "Hi there Gurus" I was falling short of the mark! 🙂 Thank you David!
  14. Hi there Gurus! Two quick questions! 1) Is there a simply way to automatically align the start of one midi note to a second selected one? This would seem like a valuable thing to have. In my case, I have two midi tracks which I have both active in the Piano Roll and I want a Note from one to be aligned with a note from the other. Think of it as. "Snap to other selected Note". 2) Sometimes when viewing two different MIDI tracks in the Piano roll simultaneously, a Note of long duration might cover the same note from the second track. Under such circumstances, is it possible bring the hidden note to the front if you can't easily click directly on it because of the obstructing note from the other track. Thanks!
  15. Hi, so thought I’d update this for the benefit of others. The problem appears to have been hardware related. I replaced my old USB hubs (“LyfeLove” and “Pluggable” brands) with an Anker and things seem to be working as expected. I haven’t yet dived deeply but everything appears to be recognized and interoperable.
