Hi, I'm trying to connect external hardware gear to LPX for the first time and can't get it to work. Specifically, I want to connect an Apollo 3630 compressor to my Apollo x8p interface and use it to mix in Logic Pro X. I'll list my steps as clearly as I can and hopefully someone can see a step I'm missing in my process: 1. Using a DB25 cable, I connect my Apollo x8p's 'Line Out' into the 'Line In' of my Alesis Channel A input 2. Next, using a TRS cable, I connect my Alesis Channel A output into 'Line Input 1' on my Apollo *(note, I'm not going from my Alesis output back into my Apollo's DB25 input- maybe this could be the issue? I only have one DB25 cable at the moment so that's why I'm going back into the Line Input 1 with a TRS cable instead) 3. Next, I go into Logic and on the track I want to compress, I insert the 'I/O' plugin under the track's 'Audio FX' 4. In the 'I/O' plugin I set the Output to 1 and the Input to 1 5. I expect to hear the Alesis affecting the audio at this point, but I don't hear any difference and there are no meter lights on the Alesis front panel to indicate that it is working besides the power light. Two ideas: 1. If I'm using the DB25 to go from the Apollo's 'Line Out' into the Alesis' 'Input' would I also need to use a DB25 to return the signal from the Alesis' 'Output' back into the Apollo's 'Line In'? Currently, I'm using a TRS cable for this connection 2. Since the Alesis is a Dual Channel Compressor, do I need to connect Channel B as well? I assumed it would work with just using channel A Anyway, any thoughts pointing me in the right direction are very appreciated. Thanks!

thanks guys, I got it! damn, that was a journey. So both the video and creating the aggregate device worked. The one catch for me was: Output on Mac and LPX needed to be set to my Universal Audio Apollo and Input on Mac and LPX needed to be set to the Aggregate device. thanks again!

thanks @triplets: I think creating an aggregate device might be the solution I'm looking for. @Logic_4.8: I tried this video, but I will give it another shot (I'm sure it was user error on my part!)

heyo, so I've put in about 5+ hours trying to figure this one out, but I'm at my wit's end so seeing if anyone's had the same issue: I synced up my Roland TR-8S to Logic Pro X (10.5) so that I could record each track (BD, SD, LT, ect.) as individual audio and also a MIDI track. I see that audio is being recorded and also MIDI info, but no matter what I try, I can not hear any audio when I play the tracks back. I use and Apollo x8p as my interface and I have tried these two different I/O settings, but neither have worked: 1. Mac audio system preferences: output and input set to TR-8S // LPX audio preferences: output and input set to TR-8S 2. Mac audio system preferences: output set to Apollo x8P and input set to TR-8S // LPX audio preferences: output set to Apollo x8p and input set to TR-8S still nothing audible is coming out for me. any suggestions or trouble shooting ideas appreciated. thanks!

ok, cool. i'll give that a shot

Just installed 'Waves' (or at least think I did) and I can't find the plug-ins when I open Logic. anything I should try to find them. gotta admit, i'm pretty close to computer illiterate. thanks!

Thanks!! lifesaver

Morning, (sorry in advance for rambling post- not exactly sure how to phrase this question) I've read a few other similar postings about recording external, hardware synths as MIDI, but I haven't had any success while trouble shooting. Basically, I'm trying to record my microKORG as MIDI info while keeping the synthesizer's tones. My track is registering a signal, but on playback there is no audio. I know that the MIDI signal is communicating different information than audio, but how do I keep the microKORG's sound as MIDI info so that I can quantize it. as a side note- any idea how to sync a microKORG up to the bpm of my project so the arpeggiator lines up perfectly? thanks! -Nikos

i think i had to boost the gain on the AL because my stereo out on the mix was hanging around -5dB. I thought this would give me more headroom to work with. Anyway, thanks again for the advice- it helped a lot. Just starting out trying to figure out the dark arts of mastering haha

Hi Triplets, sorry a little late to the post, but I got a screen shot of the Multimeter and Adaptive Limiter so maybe this will give you a better understanding. thanks again.

I've been hearing that louder isn't better for a Master(been reading about the Compression Wars with albums like Californication). I won't be by my project until Thursday, but I'll check on the LUF readings when I can and let you know, i'll also see if I can post a screenshot of my Adaptive Limiter and Multimeters so you can get a better idea.

Triplets, Thanks for the tip. I added the Multimeter and my frequencies below 100Hz were riding too high- I hadn't considered that this could be an analog distortion issue. The Rdungeon, i'm not by the project right now so I can't check on how much reduction i'm getting on the limiter. I'll expirement with setting a higher threshold. My buddy said my finished mastered wave file should look closer to a steady square shape- mine still has a lot of peaks and valleys and is still considerably quieter than other recordings I compare it too. Newbie question: is there a way to reply to you guys individually rather than how i replied to both of you here? Anyway, excited to get good responses on my first post. Thank you

Hey, first post here. So I am giving Mastering my first shot after watching MusicTechHelpsGuy tutorial. Anyway, after bouncing my finished track, there is no digital distortion when I play the song on my studio monitors, ear buds, or cell phone speakers, but when I crank it on my car stereo, there is bad digital distortion. I played another song (Da Funk) on my car's system at the same volume and there was no distortion from the speakers. On my mastering session I am using the 'Adaptive Limiter' plug-in and have my dials set to: Gain 7.8dB, Out Ceiling -0.1dB, and Lookahead 77ms. Thanks for any help
