  1. So further to my earlier message, I installed Snoize and when I launched it, there was a message about stale MIDI drivers. I removed all drivers and reinstalled only those for devices I knew I was currently using. Then, when launching Logic Pro X, I found that the MIDI device in the External Instrument plugin was showing as not available (in parenthesis, with a triangular warning flag). I selected the desired instrument, and the MIDI communication seemed fine. Thanks very much for the helpful tip!!
  2. Thanks for the reply and the tip about Snoize, I will give it a try. At first, I wondered if it was me, but after Googling, I did find some other posts that match my experience, for example here in an Apple forum. The main issue is that I can get it to work, eventually, so if there was a driver problem or MIDI port reference problem, I wouldn't expect the behavior. Also, I can observe the MIDI input and output from the Custom window in Logic which shows, time signature, etc. When the MIDI input and output is working, I can see it. I'll see what happens with Snoize.
  3. I am using a Roland UM-ONE Mk III USB MIDI Interface to connect to a legacy Technics digital piano, trying to record MIDI and play it back, from Logic Pro X 10.7.9. I am using the External Instrument plugin. I find that when I open the project and connect the interface, Logic recognizes it, and the device tests correctly with Audio MIDI Setup, but Logic fails to send the MIDI data or receive MIDI data. I have found that I can workaround the issue by restarting Logic, unplugging and replugging the interface, or visiting Settings, MIDI, Reset MIDI drivers. However, there is no consistent process that always works. I find that I don't have this trouble with Ableton LIVE, so I don't think the interface is the problem. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and found a workaround?
  4. Exactly right scg, I did have a very short articulation change note that was imported from a MIDI export from Finale, way out of the instrument range, that was definitely the culprit. After deleting that note, everything is working normally. Thanks so much!!
  5. OK, I think I reproduced the weird behavior. If I select all notes in a MIDI region, and try to change the length, even if they are all roughly the same length, I can only move the end of the note the slightest amount. However, if I select just a subset of the notes, I can change the length as expected. If, having selected the subset, I add to the selection to include all notes in the region, I can change the length as expected. Seems like a bug? (I am using Logic Pro 10.7.7, MacBook Ventura).
  6. Thanks! A bit peculiar, but I tried again and it worked fine!
  7. In the Piano Roll Editor if I select a single note I can decrease its length by dragging the end of the note to the left with the mouse no problem. However, if I select multiple notes, dragging the end of the note to the left does not work (i.e., I try to drag, but the end of the note does not change). I experimented with different settings for Snap, but this does not seem to make any difference. Any suggestions appreciated.
  8. Hi, I have automation data assigned to the MIDI Volume in a MIDI region and I am trying to to move it to Modulation (in the Piano Roll Editor). I know there is a procedure for doing this for automation data on a Track, but it doesn't seem to work in the Piano Roll Editor on a MIDI region. Is there a way to do this? Thanks, Edward
  9. I solved the problem, not sure exactly what I did. I did update Sound Manager, including optional files for Legacy instruments. Then, I used the Locate option again, this time Logic was able to read the .wav files. Thanks for the suggestions.
  10. Thanks for answering. So in my case, the .exs file is a legacy instrument from the the Vienna Orchestral library. When I create a Sampler Software Instrument in Logic 10.7.2, I can find the .exs file fine. The .exs file then points to a bunch of .wav files which are the samples for the instrument. In Logic 10.7.2, Sampler complains that it can't find the .wav files. When I choose the option to Locate the .wav files, and navigate to the folder where they are, you can see the required .wav files, however, they are greyed out, and can't be selected. I hope that this makes sense.
  11. Hello, I am new to posting in this forum so apologies if this is the wrong place. If so, please direct me to the right place. I am having trouble opening up some legacy EXS sampler instruments from the Vienna Symphonic Orchestral Cube library in the latest version of Logic 10.7.2. What I find is that if I open up an older Logic project, in which I had selected EXS sampler instruments, they work fine. If, however, I try to load another sampler instrument from the same collection, I get the error "Missing file in sampler instrument". If I select the Locate option, and browse to the folder where the sample file is located (it is in .wav format), I can see the .wav file, however, it is greyed out, and can't be selected. If anyone has ideas of a workaround, I would appreciate it! Best regards, Edward
  12. Hi, Just started working through the Logic Pro X 10.4 book. On p. 13, the loops Deep End Beat and Good Life Beat were greyed out. I clicked on the download icon. The loops appeared to download and my Mac password was requested to allow the install. However, the two loops remained greyed out, and the download icons are now unresponsive. I quit and restarted Logic, also restarted the 2018 MacBook Pro. However, same result. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Edward
