  1. Gotta go with FabFilter and iZotope's tools for EQing as well. In all truth, in MY eyes and ears, the Logic EQs have come a long way in their usability and sonic character from even the original iteration of Pro X. You really can't go wrong with either of these. There are some cheaper ones or easier to use ones out there, but these are the ones I know and use.
  2. Hi all...just placing this message here because I plan to buy at least a UF8 in the near future and any advice on, or help with, operation goes a long way.
  3. I only have Analog Lab since version 2 and Pigments, and I'm not a keyboardist/pianist at all, but because I wasn't told about Logic's stock keys VSTs past Alchemy, I just used AL because I knew and could understand what those synths were supposed to emulate. I was given Komplete 10 in school, so I wanted to use those a lot as well. Even with the effects...when Logic released the Pultec, Neve and API clones, if you were new to Logic and didn't really know these at all, then you were golden. I do like them, especially the Pultec (Vintage Tube), and having worked with the outboard dealie, I'm pleased with its ease of use and sound. But are you, as a seasoned user of Logic and, let's say UA plugins, gonna stop using those and start using Logic's? And it's not even solely about processing speed for tracking or mixdown. I imagine the ease of use and familiarity will be enough for some peeps to buy v8 or AL, but you have a point. It already exists in Logic in some way. They - and I, now that I know - just gotta get our hands dirty and get our ears ready for the shootout...
  4. I opted to start here and then wade my way through the later ones to see if there's any concrete answer to this. But I too am looking forward to what Logic is gonna look and act like on the newer machines. I'm totally not getting a Mac. I just don't like the colors. I'll wait for what the new 'Books can do, and then determine if it's finally time to at least leap up into one with TB 3 ports... (HAH!) ~oH~
  5. I can only speak to RAUM being $49 right now. It was free around Christmas time.
  6. Agreed. I had a SOLO for what seemed like an eternity. One SHARC processor handling all the plugins I bought over the years. Nah, fam. I was Tim Allen circa 1990s earlier this month when my x4 came in the mail (I wanted the four preamps for flexibility). But four is always better than two, especially for when you run the hungrier plug-ins. QUAD is what you want.
  7. Yes, why not? In fact she appears many times as multiple famous producers used Logic while working with her. Why do you have a hard time wrapping your head around it? It's about the semantics of it, I guess...I can't really see her (or certain other singers or rappers on the list) sitting behind a Mac(Book) doing much more than tracking their own vocals into Logic...but that qualifies as using it. Forgive me for sounding elite-ish about it, as anything is quite possible. ~oH~
  8. The list is (finally) back up! https://www.logicprohelp.com/vip-users/ Sweet list - very varied and eclectic...I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around a singer like Mary J Blige actually using it, but if it's on the list, it must be true...right? ~oH~
  9. I kinda hope not; there's always gonna be a "need" for them among the heads who have done this for a while both in live reinforcement and most higher-end studios that already had them. I learned about mixing late in the game before DAWs took off and became the staple they are to some, so my leaning is toward that. Thank goodness I had some teaching on a rather gently used Toft ATB32, but that was only for about 4 months and training shifted to the D-Con and SSL4000. I prefer those now simply for the workflow, but the sound of the Toft was pretty warm...better than that live 32-ch PreSonus board... (lol) BTW, fuzzfilth - LOVED your explanation!!
  10. General rule of thumb is, if it sounds good to YOU, then the rest don't matter. I think there is "something for everybody to hate" when it comes to VST's, effects and plugins, be they stock or 3rd party. You've been at this a moment so I defer to your knowledge about stock plugins. Some folks do stock out of necessity; others, to prove a point to others who swear stock is wack. I'm like, "Hey, whatever gets the job done, yo..."
  11. I have never used my 25-KC's as a Logic controller, just for playing stuff into Logic, but I have used Logic Remote on my iPad Pro. If I had to use a Novation controller for that, I do like the Impulse for its layout and design, but I think I wanna at least try to see how my Zebra MPK Mini would handle it first.
  12. OK, my mistake - you use the same swing (be it A, B or C) for all your elements, even the HH, but the latter doesn't sound "locked in" until you remove the swing. Odd. Can you provide an aural example of what you're explaining? Like an 8-bar phrase that compares with swing to without?
  13. I see the app by name, but it appears to be mainly for visual arts... ? EDIT: I put the link in above on Safari on the iPad...just the first part before experiment...works like a CHARM...I LOVE this thing!!!
  14. Quick question: You're not using different swing percentages for each drum instrument, are you? Could also be that the kick, snare, etc aren't quantized before the swing is added. I'm also a little puzzled by hearing you say a straight 16th feel "locks in" with everything else that has a swing, which typically is used on 16ths. Mind if I ask if the other drums are quantized to 8th notes?
  15. ...WOW...and wow backwards... I LOVE this thing...wonder if a similar "experiment" exists on the Pad OS platform...
