  1. Thanks for the tips everyone. I should have a chance to try iMovie this weekend. I'm actually trying out something called FastCut at the moment. http://www.timesforfun.de/ Slightly amateurish but quite fun until I try & export! Same price as QuickTime Pro but does at least 140 things QT Pro can't. That was what prompted this search. Buying QT Pro but then finding the free apps I had already were better. QT Pro doesn't seem to have really basic key commands that other things do, such as setting the start & end points of a clip. You can only do that moving the sliders with the mouse, & when you touch one of them the playhead snaps to it when what you are likely to want to do is move the slider to where the playhead is stopped. The feature that really bugs is that as soon as you use a Pro feature to make some kind of edit, the spacebar that previously toggled start & stop play has switched to toggling the mute control & play has to be done with the mouse.
  2. I do a lot of work for people who use Final Cut Pro but I didn't realise there was an express version ... although why shouldn't there be. I'll look into this although I expect it is does a lot more than I need.
  3. Someone on another forum where I asked the same question suggested this too. Actually I didn't even know about it as I haven't got the iLife suite. Can you actually edit with it though? From the descriptions it sounds more like you can put lots of short video clips into a long one but can you edit the individual clips? Also, from some reviews it looks as if the current version isn't as good as the one in the '06 iLife.
  4. Can anyone recommend simple video editing software for the Mac? I don't need to do much more than trim & join .mov files from my camera & then add a different audio track to them. I have QuickTime Pro but that is pretty-much useless. It can add audio to a video but the audio really needs to edited in a different app, even just to do something as basic as a fade, & can't remove any sound already on the video. Also, for a £20 app its video editing features are worse than on a lot of free ones like MPEG Streamclip which is what I normally use, but MPEG Streamclip can't import audio. I just want one application that can do what I currently use three for. Oh yes ... I'm still on a trusty old G4 running 10.4.11
  5. Something I've noticed is that if you switch a plug-in's GUI to the generic Logic slider controls that can reduce the CPU usage a lot.
  6. Have you set up your audio output in your Preferences? Have you got an instrument plug-in inserted in the instrument track you opened the piano roll for?
  7. I'm using pro 7 on a G4 & use this a lot on snares & hand claps. It is especially good with Linn Drum samples.
  8. I think you can only do this with the tap tempo on a separate app like AudioFinder or Music Math & then set Logic to that reading.
  9. Have you tried renaming them so they have the rar extension? I would have thought Stuffit could have coped with them, but your only option might be to open them on a PC & send them to your Mac in a more common format.
  10. If your reverb is on a Bus just switch off the output of any channel strip that is sending to it. The signal will still be sent to the reverb bus.
  11. Did you upgrade to Logic 8 or upgrade the OS to Leopard?
  12. I imagine what your friend is hoping for is not just an instrumental but a clean acapella vocal too. It can't be done. You can try careful EQ cutting above & below the vocal range to try & isolate the vocal to a certain extent but it will sound very unnatural & there will still be some music in the background. The split-stereo, phase-reversal method described above can sometimes work to remove or at least reduce a voice depending on many factors in the source material.
  13. What exactly does it mean? That you cannot promote yourself as the producer of the tracks on the sample CD or simply that you cannot then use those tracks yourself?
  14. But you can run those cleaning tasks, which are set to run automatically at something like 3.30am, whenever you like with utility apps like Onyx or MacJanitor. I always switch everything off when I'm not using it & run the clean-up tasks with MacJanitor at the end of each day.
  15. You might find what you need with these presets for the ES2: http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=4888
