  1. Logic is so powerful, but sometimes sooo frustrating (initially I wanted of course to audition midi files in context but as they are not midi loop can't do that, the subject has been covered several times already). Thanks for taking the time to answer me,
  2. Ah, thanks David, not quite what I expected (even though that's what I feared), as I have quite many midi files coming from preset packs for example, that we can't audition in Logic's browser, and I guess they don't embed any program change, so Logic would be choosing its default channel strip for that, throwing in the steinway, and I was thus wondering if the default instrument could be changed somewhere...
  3. Hello ! A short one this time, but I have not found an answer yet: Just noticed that whenever I drag a midi file to Logic window or use "spot to daw" in Audiofinder, it creates a Steinway Grand Piano channel strip listening to channel 1 (seems to be the default GM instrument), is there a way to change that ? Thanks ! Lorenzo
  4. Cannot test it anymore, my trial has expired since long, can you do something for me ?
  5. Need to try again, then, but I was using 2.6 and couldn't make it work whatsoever.
  6. Never managed to make it work on my French keyboard, any clue ?
  7. Thanks for checking, don't worry I know there are many subjects happening in the same time This is weird as both automation points are set to 9.1.1.1 (value displayed when I drag them), so they should be right there, by the way didn't notice one could go finer than that when zooming it, and didn't notice the "." after the time stamp indicating that there are some decimals (ex: 8.4.4.240. instead of 8.4.4.240) OK I've then zoomed in to the maximum zoom level. I have tried: - high point and low points at 8.4.4.240 rightmost : 1st kick is lost, though its attack it happening after the automation (as visible on the samples below) - high point and low points at 8.4.4.240 leftmost: same - hight point at 8.4.4.239 leftmost and low point at 8.4.4.240 rightmost: same Only option that works here is when highest point is set leftmost at 9.4.4.238, and lowest point at 9.1.1.1 leftmost like that: In this case the transition seems perfect to my ear: I don't hear the filter opening back, and the first kick attack seems to happen fine. However when bouncing that in place I notice that the kick after the break is still changed slightly, but it probably indicates the channel EQ is doing something even at 20Hz. So after the filter, instead of reopening it I tried deactivating the HP with the automation: soundwise looks good but the channel eq is still doing something even though all filters are off Last attempt, I tried to completely bypass the Channel EQ. It's not working if the bypass is happening at 9.1.1.1 (kick is stolen). But it works perfectly when the bypass occurs at 8.4.4.240 leftmost. As shown in the picture below the kick is perfectly the same after the break, and there is no sound before that, meaning that the filter has worked perfectly. this picture shows the three working options, with the perfect one being bypassing the EQ: Hope my experimentation help the team... Kind regards and thanks again. Lorenzo P.S. Tried to replace the channel EQ by the linear phase one: it screws everything up, the HP bypass happens almost 1/16th later, don't know what to think about it, looks that every plugin will behave differently wrt to precise automation, latency compensation imperfections ?
  8. Normally I have attached the whole project folder containing the logicx file and the rest, I've just double checked, everything seems to be there :/ Here is a consolidated version, just in case:2020-09-08 KB rollout 2.zip
  9. Hey there, I try to automate channel eq HP to roll out kick+bass at the end of 8 bar loop, and bring it back instantly for a Drop effect, but first kick after roll out gets eaten. I had to disable automation snap as it made it impossible to do a vertical change (the two points were getting merged). See attached project at 9.1.1.1. Latest track is a bounce in place of the section, where I have the same issue so it does not seem to be a playback related problem. Only using Channel EQ, sample accurate is set to all, Buffer size is 256, running 10.5.1 under Mojave. Let me know if I should provide more details. 2020-09-08 KB rollout.zip
  10. As these are related I found unnecessary to add more clutter to the forum itself, no ?
  11. Opposite issue here, I try to automate channel eq HP to roll out kick+bass and bring it back instantly, but first kick after roll out gets eaten. see attached project at 9.1.1.1. Only using Channel EQ, sample accurate is set to all, Buffer size is 256. 2020-09-08 KB rollout.zip Let me know if you encounter the same as me ?
  12. Weird indeed there was some garbage in the midi region (notes on channel 15 and 16, some vibrato stuff), whereas when looking at IAC bus data there was none generated by the plugin, some midi sync issues ??? I have activated clock sync with the IAC driver, not sure it has any impact but it seems to work now. IAC clock Sync So, this is current config: - Track 1 : External instrument routed to IAC Bus 1, with Hatefish as MIDI generator, generating data on channels 1-5 - Track 2: track stack, containing the following ones - Tracks 3-7 : Alchemy instances, listening to channels 1-5 Project overview If I record enable the track stack and press play, all tracks are playing all the notes => not the expected behavior If I record enable each instrument track and press play, each track plays the proper channel => OK If I record enable one of the instrument tracks, it gets all the messages => not nice but I understand this is the normal behavior as per https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/midi Next step, I record activate the midi generator and record an 8 bars loop in it: it contains all data for all channels at once MIDI region I then deactivate the midi generator, I only have the MIDI region on the external instrument. If I play that midi region I get the exact same behavior as above. However, as I want to get rid of the midi generator track, I move the midi region containing the MIDI data (for all channels) at the top of the track stack. It should then send the MIDI data to each subtrack (normal behavior for the top of the track stack). But if I play then, channel separation is not working, and again all tracks are playing all channels, even though the midi data is split into different channels. MIDI in track stack I have to split the midi region per channel and put the created regions in the proper tracks to have it working fine. MIDI split by channel To me it's something abnormal, but maybe I'm overdemanding ? Lorenzo
  13. When I flatten the track stack, the behavior changes a bit: - if all the tracks are record enabled, then it seems to work (but see below my other issue), each track gets the corresponding channel events - if no track is listening to a specific channel (for example no track is record enabled for channel 2), then the midi message go to the track in record mode, even if it's not listening to that channel. However I seem to be encountering a major bug. Even if I deactivate the tracks they still play unless I deactivate the instrument itself (Alchemy for example). Is that normal ? Oh and even if I stop playback sound keeps flowing out of the tracks ! Maybe someone could check my project file and see if it behaves the same ?
  14. Hi there, I have followed the guide here https://www.logicprohelp.com/instruments-tracks-midi-channels/ to set up a track stack containing several instruments, mapped to different midi channels, but still each instrument plays events of all channels, can't figure out what is wrong. My project is a bit specific as I use a midi event generator (Hornet Htefish Rhygenerator), in a track outside the stack, that sends midi events out to IAC bus, and my track stack instruments are set up to listen to the input coming back, on a specific channel. I have checked with MIDI monitor, the IAC data is correct, so there must be something preventing Logic from filtering the channels ? I haven't found a way to ask my tracks to listen only to the IAC bus BTW, don't know if it's possible ? Thanks for any insight !
