  1. If I understand you correctly, I do think you would need to flatten the take folder before you chop up the region if you want to be able to reverse your edits that way. If you are hesitant to flatten the take folder (maybe to be able to edit the comp again later), you can make a new track alternative first. Then your take folder will be saved in editable form on the earlier alternative.
  2. I am finally learning how to use the Logic Sampler. As part of a new sampler instrument I made, I created key labels. The key labels do show up in the piano roll (which apparently was not working six months ago, according to a thread I found), but when I try to save the key label set using the popup in the key label editor window, it not only won't let me save, but won't let me cancel either. Clicking 'save' or 'cancel' results in a screen flash alert, so there's no way to get out of the editor. Worse, because that save popup can't be closed, Logic won't quit. I had to force quit Logic and reopen the project to get rid of the key label editor window. Incidentally, the key labels do seem to be automatically saved in the Sampler instrument, so saving a key label set would only be necessary if you wanted to reuse the same labels for another instrument without re-entering them. Can anyone recreate this apparent bug?
  3. I'm trying to help someone update Logic to version 10.5.1 from 10.4.6. Their computer is running Mojave, which can't run 10.6, so they can't figure out how to do it. When they click on 'update' in the app store, they just get an error saying macOS 10.15 is required. I thought that it would offer to update to the latest Mojave-compatible version, but it doesn't. Does anyone know how to do this? I can't believe they just missed out on 10.5 after 10.6 so quickly followed. Is it possible that it doesn't offer 10.5.1 because their system is actually capable of running Catalina? (I don't know if that's the case or not.)
  4. I didn't check before I did the clean up to see if the regions were pointing to the right files (because I just assumed they were), but when I did the export again exactly the same way, they were indeed pointing to the files within the exported project. Thanks for the suggestions.
  5. tl;dr: Export Alternative As Project + Clean Up = no audio files in the new project I used "Export Alternative As Project" to have a new, leaner project to do my final mix. I had flattened all the take folders and joined a lot of regions beforehand, so I was expecting a fairly small project size, but it turned out to be 1.5 GB. That seemed like way too much space for simple audio (no samples were copied over), so I decided to try "Clean Up" just to make sure nothing extra was left. After that, the project was 4.5 MB and the Audio Files folder was empty! But the project would play. I discovered the regions were all pointing back to the original project's audio folder. I don't know if that's a bug or I just don't understand how it's supposed to work.
  6. How did you move it? In the Finder? Or the proper way using Logic Pro X>Sound Library>Relocate Sound Library? If the former, you may have to move it back, the do then latter. Or you could try using a symbolic link in the original location that points to the current location.
  7. Okay. I guess I thought the environment input view was a lower-level process that would show everything coming in from through the midi interface before it was processed in any way. Especially as it's displayed as being directly connected to the physical input.
  8. Okay, I was able to take fuzzfilth's advice and get it working. Strangely, my sustain pedal doesn't show up in the midi input in the environment. The expression pedal does. However, I realized I hadn't used the expression pedal in the organ part, so I don't know if it would have recorded correctly or not. I'll have to check that later. Incidentally, the rotary cabinet has more controls than I would expect and I'm not exactly getting the effect I want. Using "rotor speed" it seems to go instantly from slow to fast instead of ramping up. I need to experiment with the other three parameters that all refer to the rotor/motor. Thanks for the help.
  9. I'm recording a part using Logic's Vintage B3 instrument. I have both an expression pedal and a sustain pedal plugged into my midi controller. Expression automatically controls the B3 volume and I used the midi learn function to set the sustain pedal to control the Leslie rotation speed (slow/fast). These work great when I perform the part, but upon playback their effects are not heard. I can use the pedals to control the sound during playback. What do I need to do to have these controllers recorded? I don't remember having this problem recording with a sustain pedal on piano instruments.
  10. That's it. Thanks! Now that I know it's there, it does look useful. Incidentally, after looking around Logic I had to google to figure out what you meant by "MIDI Thru parameters." I guess that's an older name for the part of the inspector that's now called "MIDI Defaults."
  11. Every time I record on a software instrument track, the new region has its 'loop' parameter checked. Is this a setting that I unwittingly turned on?
  12. Yeah, just choose that and Logic should put everything in the right place.
  13. When I moved my Logic sound library, I chose the disk and the folder path was created automatically, i.e. [hard drive]/Library/Application Support/Logic. Looking at Relocate Sound Library, it appears you only have a choice amongst volumes anyway.
  14. tl;dr: I can't figure out how to do a pitch bend for one horn that doesn't affect all horns in the section. I'm using a multi-piece Studio Horns library patch for a horn part. Most of the song I'm just playing triads and letting Studio Horns auto-split the voices, but one part I'm writing out so the trombone, tenor sax, and bari sax play specific notes. For this part I am using the individual instrument tracks within the track stack. The three horns play one chord together, then glissando to another chord. For the saxes I just put in the individual notes, but I want the trombone to slide into the second note. The individual instruments are already assigned midi channels, so I created a region automation for pitch bend in channel 11 on the trombone track. (Automation popup in Editor window reads "Ch. 11: Pitch Bend".) All of the horns are pitch bending. I have set the track stack and horn section tracks are to midi channel 1 instead of the default 'all', but that doesn't seem to have helped. I know I can just make another trombone track, but this seems like something that should be possible within the stack. What am I missing? Am I misunderstanding the function of the midi channel assignments?
  15. I just tested a brand new empty project. Saved it and reopened -- does not indicate edits. So there is something happening with my other projects. I'm not sure I have any more elaborate projects started in 10.5 or later, but I'll check.
