  1. Nonsense. It's a bit like Christmas - I go to bed (CET) and in the morning there's all this stuff waiting for me. Thanks to you all!
  2. Aha! Thanks, that sounds like the kind of advice that would help many. Anyone else have contributions?
  3. Hello all, My experience thus far of mixing vocals has been disappointing or, at the very least, hit and miss. The main problem for me seems to be finding the right type of reverb to fit the song. Seems to me that either I end up with something too dry and bland or, with the addition of reverb the vocals become distanced from the rest of the music instead of blending in. Notably on pure electronic music. I know that there is no 'one size fits all' solution and that discernment is paramount but I wonder if anyone has any personal quick 'n' dirty guidelines or some tips that would help... please...

    Mystery...

First of all, "Hello folks" - I haven't posted for a long time but I do a bit of lurking. Now I'm grappling with my brand new Express 8. Very nice, overall. Second of all - I'm suffering a weird phenomenon. I've just created, 5 audio tracks in one go. If I arm them one by one: #1 seems to have no input. Nor #2. #3 has an input of sorts, distant and crackly. #4 works. #5 works. The strange thing is that I had this problem with Express 6. Any ideas? Third of all, and please note that I'm a MacBook-on-the-kitchen-table-with-headphones Logic user, I've just noticed that if I have my cans on with nothing going on from the machine, there's a faint, but oh-so present background hiss interspersed with whines. I wonder if this could have something to do with the 25 different wi-fi signals I'm picking up in my flat. Collaterally I wonder what this is doing to my neurones, but maybe we'll leave that debate for another string, eh? Marc
  5. There's a rumour that it won't be called what you've hinted at in red though, isn't there? So roughly on what date will you be changing the name of the site, eh David?
  6. Damn commies! No sense of showbiz... M
  7. Maybe. Post a photo and launch a poll. Or maybe not... M
  8. Nice to be bumped! I'm trying to juggle the two. As it happens tonight's my first rehearsal with the humans. It's already been a mammoth task to unite four layabouts in the same room at the same time. Here's what David said way back: "I'll take a crashing-incompatible-alert_generating-"audio-file-not-found"-computer over a flaky group of musicians any day. I mean, what's more frustrating than setting your alarm, jumping out of bed, skipping breakfast, risking a traffic ticket and then wait 50 mn for your drummer? " Damn! I just know he's right - it's the humans that are trying to scupper all my plans... now where's my copy of Gary Numan's 'Are Friends Electric?'? Bzzt, bleep, crackle. Love to you all, M
  9. Sounds good, I wish I could come along. Have a great time.
  10. I haven't visited for a while, mainly because my computer's in intensive care, meaning I'm composing on my guitar rather than arranging in Logic. I just wanted to say 'Hi' and note that the site's looking better and better.
  11. ...I wrote that a few days ago now and it was prophetic. My iBook's died since and taken all its secrets (about 15 new songs) to the grave. Of course I was just about to back up. That does it; I'm gonna find some musicians!
  12. Interesting thread. Isn't it the case that the Mac and its software is never going to remain stable and that in order for more software and machines to be sold, Apple have to do as much swerving around hairpin bends as possible (or tolerable by its users). Since OSX (or maybe even since Jobs' climbing back into the driving seat) the whole built-in-obsolescence truck (yes, yes, I'm pushing this metaphor too far...) seems to have accelerated to a frightening pace. I'm not on Tiger yet and I can hear the kids shouting: 'What's wrong with this family? We're not on Tiger yet!'. But I note that I can still run Logic Express on my old indigo iMac - OK a little slower but for composing it's fine and dandy (I just can't slouch on the sofa like with the iBook). I'm just saying that we're slaves to the whole thing and our pockets will inevitably be emptied whatever is said. Yar boo sucks... And now for a Logic question...
  13. That all sounds great David. Sometimes I use oneshotsamples.com - maybe you know it - I won't describe it in detail as a visit would speak a thousand words: basically it's a sample exchange site. I know that the guy who runs it; Dubphil (from, methinks, Strasbourg or thereabouts), had big problems with users uploading snatches of unoriginal material from CDs and had the site shut down under the weight of legal threats. He got it up and going again but I'm not sure how. Have you thought about how this issue will be approached? Maybe a mail to Monsieur Dubphil might be edifying. He's always replied very promptly to me - indeed, when he got the site up again after a long break he personally sought out all the original members and gave them new codes. Just a thought.
  14. Tanks & Panto - you're a couple of darlings; I think you've both given me some really useful tools just as I'm about to head for the hills where the internet connection is risible. So if you don't hear from me much over the next month you can picture me poring over the iBook in a hammock, tongue poking out of the corner of my mouth in concentration. Happy summer and thanks again!
  15. I confess I don't know who to do that and, having moved house recently, my manual disks are in a cardboard box somewhere alongside my wife's popsocks. Er, and the dog ate my homework. I'd like to know though.
