  1. i've installed Software updates yesterday(Logic 9.1.7 included). afraid to reboot now! i do have the system drive backed up though... I want to know if the issue is OS-related - i'm on 10.6.8 and running in 32 bit mode - where's everyone else?
  2. Why do you have to flatten and merge your comps before closing your project? Is this a bug or something? major and known.
  3. i know i'm going to come off like a troll, but i love logic and will take what i can get. it is still my DAW of choice. that said - i want the old features that were removed returned, and i want the new features to work. 8.0.1 has been a good step toward that.
  4. alright, kids - i just put up a quick snap to show you that it can be done, the customizing thing. now ease up!
  5. Didn't know that. So long as it's a shade of grey, I don't care. Pink, anyone? http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff135/Vikkly/pink.jpg
  6. for me, the thing i miss most is being able to select a preview channel in the Sample Edit window. Apparently it was too confusing for people who don't know what the fook they are doing - Apple's target market.
  7. could be a sample rate thing - hard to tell without knowing more. if your logic project is in 48kHz, say, and your built in audio (iTunes) is in 44.1 i assume this is an Offline bounce? which is actually a waste of time IMO because you still have to check the track in real time.
  8. that's right - the book has two slots for RAM, each slot can hold up to a 2 GB stick. MBPs come with a 1 GB stick in each slot - the dark side of capitalism
  9. Apple's RAM is pretty expensive, one of the ways they make money : ) you probably have two 1 GB sticks in your MBP so you'll have to take them out to upgrade. the general rule i follow with books is to max out the RAM before even questioning performance. i get memory from Otherworld Computing, excellent for years now. i hear great things about Crucial as well. it's all cheaper than Apple and specs are the same or better. Logic can definitely access more than 2 GB RAM so you'll notice a bump for sure.
  10. When was audio engineering not time consuming?? we learn these shortcuts to be more productive. Time is invaluable ... re: x-fades this way also... - I beleive that would be: OPT = - this takes you to the preferences/audio/general page where you can set the x-fade for merging values in milliseconds and the curve type Also, you can crossfade multiple selections in the Parameter Box ( 7 ) AKA Inspector ( 8 )
  11. i believe there is no Group Consolidate function like there is in PT. one track at a time, yes - select all regions in the track and use the glue tool - but you probably know that.
  12. in the main menu, go to File>Export All Tracks as Audio Files. all files are created at the same point with faders at Unity (no matter what you may have going on automation-wise). plug in processing is included! you'll be prompted to choose a file type and bit rate - that's it. feature has been there since 7, but i've only recently started using it to back up sessions for the client. i'm digging it. you can also Export (selected) Track as Audio file, but no way to Export Selected Tracks... so it's one or all.
  13. i don't know if L 8 is different from L 7 in this respect, but i found Logic's SRC to be not so great. Actually, Quicktime Pro is surprisingly good, but no batch conversion. i went with BarbaBatch, but i've read some great reviews for Sample Manager by Audiofile Engineering which is less expensive.
  14. before changing tempo, select all audio regions and 'Lock to SMPTE position'. i do this often, my key Command is Page Down
  15. i can't rememvber wehat the key command name is and L8 is not in front of me - but you can go into preferences and select a tickbox so catch will always enable when you hit play.
