  1. I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. I'm a newbie and trying to avoid some unnecessary, poorly selected steps in getting up and running. I recently bought an Akai MPK 249 to use for all my keyboard/controller needs. Seems like a solid keyboard with plenty of options. At any rate, learned very quickly that I have access to nothing but the sounds I'm currently using on GarageBand to finish a project (before I move over to Logic Pro and begin the long learning process) as Ableton is NOT supported on my Apple computer (would have been nice if they actually said this upfront!!). My question: are the midi sounds that are available through Logic Pro enough or is their a midi sounds program (sorry for the poor terminology) that I should consider purchasing? One thing is for sure, the sounds available through GarageBand are just not going to get the job done for me, so I really need to get a program that offers even basic stuff like Acoustic Bass, Electric Bass, Electric Fretless, strings that somewhat sound like strings, and woodwinds that at least somewhat approximate their original's sound. If LogicPro is the ticket, then I need to immediately convert to that. Thanks for any direction you can give me here. Like I said, I'm a total newb (and an old guy!), so I'm really starting out from the ground floor.
  2. Thanks so much for that info. I had a sense from reading reviews that it would be a good fit for me, so your thoughts are encouraging.
  3. Okay, so first, my apologies.... I am VERY, very new to this recording stuff and a VERY old man. Long-time semi-pro singer/songwriter who is finally looking to record my stuff and perhaps put a bit of polish and production to the final product. I tried GarageBand, went insane trying to troubleshoot an issue that even Apple Support had difficulty figuring out (turns out you cannot use two USB inputs and record simultaneously!). That brought me to Logic Pro, which is utterly intimidating. I plan on buying David's book, but I'm concerned that it might be a tough read for a guy who really doesn't know the ropes at all. So my question is..... is David's book a good place to start for a newb or is there another read that would be a better introductory start, with David's book following close on its heels? I'm really just looking to do some very basic guitar, voice, harmonies, keys kind of production. The full symphony will come later (lol)!
