  1. Yep just run into this issue once again, thinking that just possibly it's been fixed in a recent version. Of course not. Has this really been an issue for 7 years now? Clearly they're never going to fix it. Yours, disappointed..
  2. Thanks David. Ok that's strange, I must have been imagining it then - I thought that's how all DAWs behaved. Many thanks for your help.
  3. Cheers! Well I want to hear my input in play mode, but not if there is recorded audio playing (if that makes sense). The thing is that's always how I used it: I'd enable the Input Monitoring button when I wanted to play along or record, and would disable it otherwise. And when playing along with the track, if there was a section of previously recorded audio then suddenly I wouldn't be able to hear my live guitar anymore, until the recorded section ended. That worked perfectly for me, I don't understand why now I have to change my workflow.. I thought maybe something had changed but it seems this is how it's always been and maybe I just hadn't noticed.
  4. Hi David, thanks for the reply. That was a small part of my issue, and I've just added a note to that thread as I got that bit working. But it's more about the workflow of having the input audible when playing/recording - it's something I never gave a moment's thought as it seemed to work perfectly intuitively. But now I can't get it to behave in a sensible way. I have found that disabling auto input monitoring is about as close as I can get to what I want. But I can still hear my input when audio is played, which I am SURE didn't happen before. But I could be wrong..
  5. You also need to enable 'Auto Input Monitoring' in the Record menu it seems.
  6. Hi all, Now either something has changed in Logic recently as regards recording audio, or I'm going crazy. Hopefully someone can assist.. What I always used to do, or so I remember, when recording guitar for instance is. 1) Click the I (Input Monitoring) button on on the correct audio track. At this point I can hear my guitar even if not recording. 2) I can click Play and play along to my track. 3) Now when I click record, I can record some guitar, and obviously can hear what I'm recording. 4) If I then play back the track, I can still play my guitar over the top, but as soon as a section of audio is reached it plays that section instead, and I can no longer hear what I'm playing live until the end of the recorded section. This has worked well, assuming this is actually how it worked and I haven't had some sort of brain haemorrhage. However, I tried to record some guitar this weekend, and I couldn't get the same workflow. Either I can always hear what I'm playing, even when a recorded section is playing, even though auto input monitoring is enabled. Also the manual states if you used Record Toggle (which I think is shift-R) then you can toggle record mode without any dropouts in audio, but that doesn't seem to work. The audio still drops out each time, and the toggle sometimes does nothing. I'm really confused - I never had any problems with this before but now I'm banging my head against the wall, I can't work out if I'm doing something different or if Logic has changed. I've been doing lots of reading about switching on off the Input Monitoring, Auto input monitoring, allow quite punch-in and other settings, but I've never had to use these before so I'm wondering why I do now.. Any help much appreciated!! Cheers, Mike
  7. Ok thanks David. It's surprising there isn't a simpler solution, this seems to be a major limitation of using loops.
  8. Hi all, If I have a looping MIDI cell, any MIDI notes playing at the loop paints are immediately cut off - even though the note may be longer. This is quite annoying - I may have a loop with long notes which overlap, and I don't want any of them cut off early. Is there any way around this? I thought maybe I could extend the actual cell length, but that didn't seem to make any difference. I would have thought this was something that was quite common but I can't find any other info about it. Cheers, Mike
  9. Well I've made a feature request but have no idea if anyone even looks at those..
  10. Ok I just searched for this exact issue. So it's not possible to record automation (eg playing with a plugin parameter) in cells. You have to record the cell then do it manually afterwards? This seems like a huge oversight and surely something that Apple are looking to fix for a future version, but I've no idea how to find this out. I could make a feature request but it would be nice to know if this is already being worked on..
  11. He's not using Smart Controls though, he's just mapped the controller directly to the parameter (CC value), which works fine. I've just found the same issue with Smart Controls and am almost resigned to the fact I can't really use folders/stacks anymore if I want to do this, surely this issue should be fixed? Thanks, Mike
  12. I wonder how many people actually use their controllers the way they were intended to be used (or at least how they could be used) compared to how many just use the mouse. Indeed, I'm not surprised people are returning to external synths/effects as they are just so much more hands on to use - despite the availability of cheap midi controllers which should be able to do something very similar Well, I'm going to find some compromise - I don't have the time (or brains!) to find a solution that can do exactly what I want, if it's even possible. It seems like there's a huge pile of money for someone to make if they can come up with a decent solution for this..
  13. And I feel like I'm talking to someone from the future... Looking at those links I can see you've been down the rabbit hole! Seems like you've made some progress but really I'm thinking now maybe I can deal with a basic setup for now. And using Logic Remote on my iPad for smart controls. Anything more complicated seems to be made as difficult as possible. When I got my Keylab I was using Ableton and was trying to get some help from Arturia. It occurred to me that maybe no-one really bothers this and is just happy to use the mouse. Or have got used to it. It really is strange that there isn't a more universal solution for this - that DAW developers aren't making this high priority - that would seem to me to massively increase the power of a DAW if you could easily control it with any controllers available. But clearly that isn't something they're focussing on or maybe every will..
  14. Many thanks for the reply again. Ok that does make sense, but as is often the case I'm left with more questions than answers! I really wish there was some more detailed documentation for this. What if I have two of the same plugin on one track, how do I choose between them? Is it possible? I just think this whole area is totally under documented, but I guess I'll just have to make do keep things very simple! Cheers for your assistance.
  15. Ooh I'm intrigued.. Can you point me towards how to do 2) then please, if you've already posted about it?! I found that setting the Channel Strip to 'Software Instrument' and the track does the right sort of thing - but I was just playing around and this may not be the best way. Cheers Des
