  1. Excellent feedback Des99 & David! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply ~
  2. Sorry for any confusion. I saw people commenting on individual tracking process, and that confused me. But being confused these days is nothing new
  3. I'm certainly the least qualified and probably don't know what I'm talking about. My reading of the original post is that he's referring to a completed product that is sent to all of the streaming services, and not a live streaming performance. Assuming you are limiting the final output, I imagine your final mastered mix could peak at -1 . . .
  4. Hi, I'm having trouble importing midi drums sent to me by friend. When I import the file, I chose drum kit in Logic Pro 10.6.1 and they play and sound great, but the hi hat is missing. My friend is creating the midi in Toontrack Superior Drummer 3 from within Presonus Studio One version 5. Is there possibly a setting wrong on my system. This is the only instance I import midi files, and they are always drums. Thanks for any help troubleshooting this problem k
  5. At least it's an easily portable computer that you can take and have someone look at. I don't know much about computers, but I recently had a problem with an older iMac computer and removing Chrome from the system took care of the CPU usage problems I was having. Not suggesting this is the problem with your computer but maybe there is an app or something in there that is putting stress on the CPU. Good luck sorting it out!
  6. Thanks Fisherking! I see people talk about backing up your existing OS before updating to a new one in case you want to go back. I'm illiterate in computer speak. Does this mean to clone your entire drive to an external drive? Or is there some way to back up only Catalina and then reload only that if for some reason my system struggles in Big Sur?
  7. Thanks for the post and feedback! I'm running Catalina and Logic 10.6.1 and everything is stable. Every time I start up my computer reminds me I have a software update which is Big Sur. I'm going to wait until I see more evidence that it is stable. Hope original poster get's it sorted ~
  8. Yeah Karl, using either the internal or an external SSD seems viable in 2020. I'm pretty shocked at the difference between my 2013 iMac and the 2020 iMac. it's my first exposure to THB3 for importing and exporting files. It's also my first exposure to using an internal SSD for mixing and editing. I've tracked with the internal SSD on my MacBook Pro, but never tried mixing on it due to screen size. Good luck with the upgrade! The M1 future looks quite interesting for users with a primary focus on Logic Pro.
  9. I just wanted to follow up in case any one else searches this topic. I think robinloops solution is viable, assuming your internal hard drive space is big enough. I purchased a Samsung T5 external SSD and migrated the sound library over to it, and it is all working great. Honestly, on my system the drive is so fast I had no problem running the sessions from there, but if I run it on my internal SSD it does put less pressure on the Drive I/O on the performance meter. I was surprised to find that the 10 song project i'm working on at this time is only taking up about 12 GB of storage space, so i'll just keep it on the internal drive until i'm finished with it and then transfer it back to the external when i'm finished. Thanks @robinloops for your help and feedback ~
  10. Thanks for the reply Robinloops! This computer has Thunderbolt 3/USB-C so I think it should be fast enough. It didn't occur to me to store everything on external and pull projects in one by one when I'm working on them. I'll have to try that, as it only adds a few extra steps, dragging in and back out. I guess I was thinking if I'm going to set up the content library on SSD, and keep the projects there, if it's fast enough, I thought I'd just run them from the external SSD as well. I'll check out the other active thread you mentioned. Because my Interface is taking up one TB port, and the drive would theoretically take up the second, it may be nice to have more ports via a hub. Thanks again ~
  11. So nobody running sessions on an external SSD? I thought I remembered reading about it, but my searches here don't turn up any info. Maybe suggestions for another Logic focused forum where I might find someone who's doing this? Thanks in advance for any help, as i'm helpless when it comes to computer stuff. I bought my first computer singularly for audio editing and i've never learned anything beyond that, and a little photo editing, and iMovie. I see lot's of videos about putting the sound library on an external SSD, but I don't see anything about running and storing sessions on external SSD. Cheers ~
  12. Thanks David. I thought I was the only one who didn't sleep
  13. Sorry for the stupid question, but do I need Kindle to purchase "Kindle Version" and download this book onto an iMac? Or Can I just purchase it as a PDF and put it on my computer? Thanks!
  14. Hi, I had been planning to buy a new M1 mac mini with 16GB RAM and 1 TB SSD. Because that particular model has been backordered for so long, I had kept my eye open locally for a used mac and came across something I couldn't pass up. I got 3 month old 2020 iMac 27" Retina 5K, 3.1GHz 6 core 10th-generation Intel Core i5, 8GB, 256GB SSD, Radeon Pro 5300 4GB for $950.00. It's running on Catalina, which is the same OS i'm running on my 2013 iMac. I've downloaded Logic Pro 10.6.1. Because it only has 256 GB SSD, before I download all of the content, I wanted to see if I can get an external SSD and dedicate it for the content and running Logic Sessions. Any SSD recommendations and a link to "how to setup the external SSD with all the heavy content and run sessions from it", would be greatly appreciated. Also, I got pretty comfortable using David's book on Logic Pro 8 to maximize that version. But after years away, i'd like a source to explore a lot of the new things in 10.6.1. Where is the best place to buy David's book on Logic Pro 10.5 and 10.6. Thanks in advance ~ kev
  15. Thanks so much Facej! I honestly did not know about Apple's generous return policy. In the past i've bought my Macs through other outlets and always knew what I was getting. I admittedly started researching this upgrade about a 3-4 weeks ago, and at the time I saw numerous posts suggesting to wait and see on the M1 processor. After reading Triplets message earlier today I researched again on YouTube, and was blown away by what I saw. One guys had a 100 mixed type tracks with 200 Space Designer plug-ins activated and it wasn't stressing the M1 Mac Mini at all That far exceeds any foreseeable needs in my little world of tracking and mixing Thanks again ~
