  1. Managed to figure this one out and maybe a majority of folks already knew which is why no one bothered to answer this. But for those like me who didn't have a clue, the answer is to ensure the Recent Items is turned on in the OS. System Preferences ➤ General ➤ Recent items Or you could go to System Preferences and just search for "Recent" for newer OS versions. I personally had no clue that a Logic feature would be tightly integrated with the OS in this way and really doesn't make much sense to me why. My other DAW's simply display recent items without this feature being on in the OS.
  2. Not certain if is the defaulted new behavior that suddenly I'm now seeing b/c I upgraded vs fresh install, or if it's a legit issue but I'm not any longer seeing a list of my previously opened projects in Logic. Instead I get an empty window and a prompt to browse for my previous project. This is a new one to me b/c it just looks wrong. Ideas? Anyone know of a fix if this isn't the expected behavior?
  3. I always use the minimal default sounds to avoid the space issue thing that I've seen and heard about many times so I can't really offer any suggestions from experience in this area. But perhaps you may want to give this a try? I read it and it seems like it would be a viable option to consider anyway. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252263839?sortBy=best
  4. You may be correct and that seems to be the general consensus based on most of the responses. Which to me suggests that Mastering Assistant is more of a Mastering alternative. Else what you've suggested shouldn't be required. Just dropping my 2 cents in the bucket
  5. Sorry? @Sir Hannes this last post wasn't very clear as to what you meant. Is this a response as a follow up to your previous one and if so, how is it related. Maybe it's just me but I am confused on the post, could you please clarify this for sake of the thread?
  6. Hey, thanks for that important piece of information you shared. That was somewhat along what I'd experienced as well which led me to ask the question in this post. I also noted pumping as well though probably not as extreme as you have stated. I think it's prudent to say as you've said, it should be used cautiously. Especially if you've already got a compressor on the same bus with the intent of actually mastering the audio b/c the Mastering assistant apparently is employing some type of compression under the hood and so the result may not be as intended or favorable under those circumstances. There is no documentation stating the type of compression it's using, the attack and release time (if any) and etc. IMHO if you use it on a bus that already has compression in the chain, you're somewhat flying blindly from a technically perspective and relying "solely" on what you hear. Probably fine if that's what "floats your boat" Overall, I think it generally sounds great if there are no other compressors on the bus though. Thanks for the input
  7. Well, maybe I should have been a bit more clear on "compromising". If I'm mastering a track I'd place a mastering plugin somewhere in the chain (e.g. Shadow Hills, Weiss DS1-MK3 or etc) and when I think in terms of a Mastering Assistant plugin I'm generally thinking in terms of a plugin that may perform tasks as adding subtle harmonics, introducing very subtle EQ curves or any other type of task that would enhance the audio. So compromising to me would be introducing a plugin onto my chain that unknowingly adds more compression. One could make an argument for serial compression on the Master bus, but generally I don't really expect that from a Mastering assistant plugin moreover the other things I mentioned. If I know the plugin is actually performing compression in the backend, then I can make a knowledgeable intended use of it; but if I don't know it's adding compression to my track; that's the compromise. Not that it's destructive, but that I'm using it in a way contrary to what I thought it was doing.
  8. I believe your question would likely be better answered by Tascam since that is the source of the audio and you’re asking about the transfer of tracks. I know that Porta Studio model records to an internal hard drive so how and if you can simply transfer the files from there to your MacBook HD would be a question that only they’d be qualified to answer. If you’re speaking of recording the audio from the Tascam to your MacBook, since that model only has a Stereo out; then I’d suspect you could mute all one 1 track at a time and then route the audio from the Tascam Stereo outputs to whatever you’re using as an audio interface and then into Logic. You’d have to repeat that for however many tracks you’re desiring to import since you are limited to a L/R output. Lastly, if at all possible to either copy or move the audio from the Tascam to your MacBook (again, contact Tascam for information on it)….. Then moving them means they won’t be on the Tascam, copying them means they will remain on the Tascam b/c you’re “copying”. Good Luck
  9. So I haven't seen this question actually asked verbatim though I've found permutations to it. I just happened to give the Mastering assistant a try and was quite impressed with results. Per documentation it mentions EQ, spreading the stereo image and controlling the true peak of the audio. But the dynamics area is what I’m more interested in having a bit more insight with. I see the “excite” option which apparently is adding or subtracting some upper level harmonics to the audio much like the Aphex Aural Exciter. This I also think is a very welcomed feature. However, while experimenting with the Loudness I did notice an introduction at one point of slight pumping which suggests that there is a compressor behind the scenes to support the Loudness feature. I’m thinking a compressor and limiter are implemented into the Mastering Assistant which wouldn’t totally discourage me from using it. But I’m not that fond of 1, 2 or 3 knob solutions to something as critical as compression on a Mastering bus. I’d at least want to know what’s going on. E.g. what type of compressor is being used and the attack release times being applied. Probably fine for getting an idea of what the finished product would likely resemble but not as a true Mastering solution. But, that's just my opinion. I guess the jist of what I'm asking is "Is this a Mastering Assistant" or is it supposed to be a "Mastering all in one" thing. Because I wouldn't want to throw a Mastering plugin on the bus and have my work compromised by the latter. Anyone have any insight on this?
  10. Thoughts...... as you likely already know, even with the best practices and efforts phase issues cannot be totally eliminated when using multiple mics on the same source but they can be minimized and at best sometimes. Inverting the phase as you've done with the 1st scenario can also be applied to the 2 overhead mics as well. However it may not be as effective since you're capturing multiple audio sources having different frequencies at the same time. Phase inversion works best when isolating a single source similarly as you did with the snare. I've found this plugin from Sound Radix be extremely effective and exceeding where simple inversion of the audio phase is somewhat limited in what it can do. That said, I'd suggest you capture the audio the best you can (placing the distance of the mics relatively equal from the sources would be my suggestion) in effort of minimizing phase issues, download a trial version and then give it a go. I think you'll be quite impressed with the result. I've used the earlier version of the plugin for years with success but the current version supercedes in the result and also effort required to correct phase issues and attain very profession result. Good luck
  11. Hi, running on Logic 10.7.9 here and that command combination still works for me. What version of Logic are you on? 10.8? Can you recall anything having changed prior to it last working?
  12. There is. It's been available for a while (a few years actually) if I remember correctly b/c this has always been a pain point with UAD plugins and discussed many times. I'm providing you with the link to the forum thread where you can acquire the download link rather than the direct link. Bookmark it. UAD Plugin Manager
  13. Unless someone else here can attest otherwise, the answer is no. Apple Audio Loops are only sampled snippets of audio and aren’t intended to include embeddedd plugin and automation effects. I think this makes sense b/c the audio should be able to be easily brought into any project without dependency of plugins. Similarly, the MIDI in the Apple Loops should not need the dependency of having plugins and since it is only MIDI data it can be easily ported to any VST instrument and interchange plugins as desired. If your objective is to include plugin effects, panning automation and etc. You should apply all those elements to the track, bounce it to an audio file and then add that audio file to Apple Loops. Testing this, I added a simple 4 bar bass line to an audio track with the fader set to 0 db unity gain. Then Ctrl + Click for the context menu, Export -> Add To Loop Library When I browsed the Loop Library, located the loop and added to the project; the fader position remained unchanged from the default 0 db position. So I am unable to reproduce your issue. But you also mentioned using a DMD pattern which I don’t ever use.So someone else who uses DMD patterns may be better suited to answer your question. However, I’’m “suspecting” that your DMD comps actual level may be -8.1 dB and that may be why the resulting loop is -8.1 dB. This is possibly b/c irrelevant of where the fader is before you add it to the Library, the fader position of audio after it’s added to the Library may be accurately reflecting the dB level of the DMD when it is being added. Again, this is just my theory though. Good Luck
