Hi,
I have a Roland RS-70 MIDI keyboard that is about twenty years old. I'm able to get Logic to recognize and record the notes I push on the RS-70, but I have a few issues. My goal is to record the sounds from the RS-70 in Logic. I've looked at so many articles and videos and still can't figure it out.
Problem 1: Get Logic to recognize the RS-70 as a product and list it as an option for Output (It recognizes the MIDI connection correctly when I push notes). I went to Roland's site today and downloaded the RS-70 USB driver for a Mac, but when I add an external instrument track in Logic it only lists the AudioBox and not an RS-70. I also tried going to Logic Control Surfaces setup and the RS-70 isn't listed.
Problem 2: When I create an external MIDI track, do I need the RS-70 to be listed or the AudioBox USB?
Problem 3: What setup of wires should I be using?
I'm running the latest Logic, Mac, and UA console.
I have the RS-70 with 2 MIDI cables going into an AudioBox USB.
I have a USB from RS-70 to Mac.
I have a USB from AudioBox to Mac.
I have a thunderbolt from Apollo Twin to Mac.
I have two TRS cables from RS-70 Output L/R going into Mic 1 and 2 in back of Apollo.
in Logic Preferences, I've tried all kinds of inputs and outputs and can't hear anything until I plug the single TRS from the RS-70 Output R into the Apollo guitar icon input on the front of the Apollo. I hear the RS-70 sound and it records the MIDI notes in Logic, but when I play it back, I don't hear anything with the O/I set to UA Thunderbolt. When I select "built in output" it plays on my UA headphone jack, not the Mac speakers.
I know at some point, when I get the right configuration, I'm supposed to create an audio track to record the RS-70 sound, but I can't even get to the point yet.
Problem 4: My Apollo is connected to a Shure mic and it has worked for a few years. Around December 28, it stopped recognizing the mic, even in Logic files that previously recorded vocals the prior day. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with the Apollo. I downloaded the latest UA console last night. I had it plugged into the back of the Apollo Mic 1 before I removed it to try different wire connections for the RS-70 problem.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I tried 3 years ago and gave up.
Thanks
