  1. i am getting the same problems of overload. MBP 2.0 GB ram, plenty of horsepower for a 20 track project with minimal plugs. i've tried trashing prefs., reinstalling, moving project file to external 7200RPM drive, etc. still on playback it freezes up . anyone have a scoop on a 8.0.1 or pro applications update that might help?
  2. While I can't speak to the Leopard/Tiger issue, I can say that I have noticed a performance decrease in Logic 8 on my MBP. I've never run 7 on my MBP, but the CPU and HD meters aren't even CLOSE to halfway, let alone maxing out, yet I get overload messages often. Often enough that I am thinking of porting the entire performance I have scheduled in a week onto Ableton Live b/c i cannot risk a meltdown midway through. below is a pic of what my meters looked like last time it crashed. i've got everything running off of an external FW 800 7200rpm drive...which should be fine for a 24 track audio project with minimal plugins. anyone have any optimization tips? Thanks T
  3. Data Rescue II. A paid one. +1 for data rescue II. its the only thing that saved me awhile ago.
  4. if it works the same way as an audio file (which i'm not sure of) there's two ways that come to mind: 1) use the bpm plugin 2) open the beat mapping track in the global tracks. set the marker for the first beat, then beginning of second bar, etc. the more info you give logic here, the more specific the BPM it generates will be. hope this helps.

    automation

why not just bus the tracks you want to a sub group.. then add that to the arrange window (double-click on it from the mixer window) and view automation. from there, you just draw (or record) the automation where you want it. another way (and better way in my opinion) to do this, is to just mute the regions where you want them to be muted. use the marquee tool, select the region, create a new region with your selection and then mute it. but if you have too many tracks, that can be a pain, so you might want to go with method #1 above. T
  6. ok thanks i will try it. hmm... looks like (from your signature) you have pro tools 7.3 running with OS 10.4.10? lucky you....some intern at work made the mistake of auto-updating and i had to re-install from 4.8 (prebinding fix didn't work). thanks again T
  7. So I have Logic Studio on my MBP and on my Power PC g5, but when I bring a session that I started on the MBP into the PPC, the session loads fine, but there are no waveforms displayed in the regions. This is true even for newly recorded regions: the waveform displays while recording, but once recording stops, the waveforms disappear. Can someone help me please? I have tried closing/reopening, etc. Thanks Tab
  8. sorry to hear that. what exactly do you want to back up? there are a few online options that are free like Omnidrive (1GB i think which isn't much) and maybe you can spread your stuff out across a bunch of the free ones. it depends on if you want to save settings, or other large data like movies, mp3s etc.
  9. the beyers are certainly a good pair of cans, but closed back headphones can be tiring after awhile and if the original poster is looking to mix late at night, maybe the DT 990Pro would give a better mix translation as well as less ear-fatigue. http://www.beyerdynamic.com/cms/Headphones.68.0.html?&L=1&tx_sbproductdatabase_pi1[showUid][showUID]=45&tx_sbproductdatabase_pi1[showUid][backPID]=68&cHash=f8ff1123c1
  10. you should check the other world computing drives. i found them only after i bought 2 g-techs, but they are the same chipsets and components as the g-tech (i'm pretty sure) and much cheaper. different enclosures, though, which don't look as cool as the g-tech but you can get a 2 year warranty, etc. http://www.macsales.com T
  11. Musique concrete piece i threw together while getting used to Logic Studio. Not happy with the lack of dynamics in my mix, and i'll have to revisit it at a later date. All field recordings done by myself and a friend, with the exception of a vocal sample taken from a phonography podcast. http://www.thetenpaces.net/Cacophonics_FNL.mp3 T
  12. the 650's sound good, though at AES I was told by the Sennheiser reps that they are less "analytical" than their older HD600 models...so the latter might be better for mixing. those are what i use (600) and you can find them online for $300 or so. they are fantastic headphones, open backed so more comfortable, but quite honest to use as a mix reference. if you want something more durable, grab the 7506s from Sony. they are durable (i have one pair at home, one pair stays in my touring bag, and the only thing i dislike is the leathery crap on the ear pads crumples after a few years use.
  13. ok i figured it out and am going to post the solution here should anyone have a problem in the future. settings---->synchronization----> bar position 1 1 1 1 should read SMPTE as 1:00:00:00 (in my case) or whatever you prefer.
  14. Hey everyone: I am using Logic studio and I imported one of my midi loops to see how battery would work. Logic asked me something about "new SMTPE" detected! once I imported the loop and i just blindly clicked ok thinking it was no big deal. now my project starts at like 14:00 and i can't figure out how to set it back to normal. "Undo" does not work. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Tab
  15. i use it to beef up a kick drum without a bassline sometimes. print a 52 hz sine wave to one track, but a gate on it and side chain the gate to the kick drum track. depending on ADSR times, you can get really nice/different effects
