  1. When I look at my sessions in the 'mixer' / 'show all' view I see a track called 'master' near my 'output 1+2' track. What is the function of this 'master' track, when surely everything ultimately ends up going through 'output 1 + 2'...? In one of my projects I have accidentally deleted the 'master' track and logic warned me that other tracks are in some way connected to this track... should I worry? How would I bring it back? Matt
  2. Just wondering, if I look at a track in my arrange window, what items might cause my system (intel imac) to become sluggish and freeze up, and what should I not be concerned about...? Obviously plugins - yes. But what about: Whether empty tracks have been given an input/output setting? Whether empty tracks are frozen or locked? whether muted tracks containing objects are frozen/locked? Whether there is a bus selected in the send box - but without anything being sent...? Matt
  3. When I bounce a session and tick ' add to itunes library' itunes creates a a new playlist called 'logicsongs'............ this is good but can I tell either logic or itunes to call this playlist something else e.g. 'Bounces', or to add each bounce to a pre-existing playlist - or even to refrain from adding to any playlist....?
  4. Anybody else get this? Seems like a pretty major bug...
  5. Sometimes I try to edit a region in Logic 8 (e.g. cutting and splicing it) and i get a message saying the current track is frozen, even though this is not the case. I haven't asked it to be frozen and the freeze emblem is not lit.... why would this happen? Matt
  6. Thanks for all your interesting answers. However I still feel a bit overwhelmed by the masses of possible orderings of these effects. Maybe it's easier if I break it up into smaller questions... 1) Say I add reverb and delay through a 'send', is it the norm to add the reverb to the post-delayed signal (i.e. the original vox plus added delayed vox) or just the original signal? Surely there's a 'normal procedure' here? 2) Say I have enhanced the vocal take with a gentle distortion or exciter, should this 'wet' signal be fed to the reverb or is it generally the case that reverb is generated from the original dry signal? 3) On a slightly different note - would you ever use an expander on a vocal? If so why? Would you use it on top of compression? Seems strange as they are working in opposite directions.... 4) Does Logic allow me to adjust the order of the inserts once they have been put in place? E.g. I have compression at the top of the list and I need to move it to second place... How? Thanks, Matt
  7. I am creating a channel strip setting for vocals. I've decided that my channel strip will contain the following ingredients but would appreciate suggestions about the order they should be placed in (in other words, what is the ideal signal chain for these effects)? COMPRESSION DE-ESSER GENTLE DISTORTION AMP SIMULATOR PITCH CORRECTION REVERB DELAY NOISE GATE EQ EXCITER Thanks, Matt
  8. My operating system is an IMAC using OSX TIGER 10.4.11 I don't use a removable hard-drive - it is always present....
  9. I've had an idea - could this be related to where I store projects? I may have renamed or moved the folder where I keep my projects... Can somebody who has recently installed tell me the exact directory of their projects folder to see if mine matches?
  10. Hi, Have tried this scrapping of my preferences but still no change... Logic is refusing to 'remember' what sessions I have worked on recently. How can i check that my key commands folder is as it should be...?
  11. No I set it to 'Do Nothing'. I don't want Logic to automatically open my most recent project everytime I startup the program... I simply want it to provide me with a list of the most recent 5 or so sessions I have worked on (it has done this for me in the past but now mysteriously stopped). This list USED to appear under FILE > OPEN RECENT > But now this is always blank....
  12. No this is not the problem - when I go to the 'global -startup actions' preference I WANT Logic to 'do nothing'..... however my problem is that having 'done nothing' I go to look at my recently opened sessions (as u would in most programs) and there is nothing in the list....
  13. Is it possible (in Logic 8) to make an AUX object (which I currently can view either in the mixer window or in the inspector at the far left) appear in the arrange window as a horizontal 'track' underneath the tracks from which it is receiving a send? I'd like my aux channels to have a presence in the arrange window so that I don't forget about them etc... Matt
  14. I'm on Logic 8 on an imac running OSX. I've tried looking through all possible options and making sure my folders are structured in the correct way... I haven't tried trashing my preferences... How would I do this...?
