  1. Hi thanks for the heads up , I played around with it yesterday , playing guitar through a PC with Gig Performer 4 and an amp sim loaded up , then sent the audio into LPX via network , the only way I could get any audible stream was by using a midi controlled plugin version of BC Connector , and engaging play to instantiate the stream , it wasn't great , a different approach to the typical LPX track setup with software monitoring and I or R enabled on the track , I'll try some more approaches tonight , I'm using a PC to host some FX and VI's ...
  2. Completely unrelated though somewhat related , here in Winnipeg I saw an ad for the Apogee Gio, I thought I'd chase it down though the enthusiasm died pretty quickly when I realized Gio also died to OSX Catalina and above , would have to downgrade to Mojave to use any of the midi implementation afaik, deal breaker , support dies , gear becomes obsolete , time ravishes us all to some degree ...
  3. Thanks for the shout out ! Glad to hear it's working for you, and good to know High Sierra is stable as well. Live long LPX and prosper !
  4. Fantastic news! Wonder what it would run like with the 2600XT GPU, as that's what i'm going to be trying haha. I presume you put the 7xxx series back in when trying Logic? Also, presuming you lost WiFi, do you know if the bluetooth still operates? I really appreciate you posting back on this so thanks a ton! I hope it runs well for you. Hi ! My pleasure, hope this helps. Actually the 2600XT GPU is the supported original GPU I got this MAc Pro with, but as it isn't compatible with FCPX, I purchased a Radeon 7XXX whatever that is with @ Gb of memory , it has more outputs as well, I'm using four monitors, a bit overkill but it's working. 1- tracks 2 - mixer 3 - piano roll 4 Kontakt and or SSD4. I had put the 2600 XT back in for install and trying Logic, it supports the boot screen and is comforting when working through installs. After that all worked the last caveat was getting the GPU back in and working. That turned out good to so I'm back in business and so far everything is as good as it ever was, to this point. I don't use WiFi and blue tooth IS working as I use a trackpad as well as a Kensington trackball for editing, apple keyboard in the middle. No complaints yet, I've just performed the Symlink deal to locate the logic content on another internal drive as Eric Cardenas outlined in a previous post, that's great. I'll have more time later this week to put it to the test, but at this point it doesn't seem any different than El Cap, feel wise, I'm wondering how to order Siri around as I use a digital mixer, I'll have to work up a talk back mic I guess.
  5. Thanks It works ! I've installed Sierra 10.12.6 as well as Logic 10.4 on my early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 with little or relatively no worries. I followed the advice from http://dosdude1.com/sierrapatch.html which has all the information I required. I have an unsupported graphics card , so for ease of install I replaced that with the original graphics card to make installing easier, being able to see the boot process screens. I made the bootable usb drive according to the directions on dosdude1's page. I booted to that drive with the restart - hold option key down - choose startup drive, installed Sierra to my SSD, then upon restart performed the post install patch and voila, the next restart was a healthy Sierra OS. Opening Logic and scanning the 540 Audio Units took a while, all good. I haven't thoroughly pushed it to the max, but I've opened up quite a few projects and everything seems to work like normal. I was crying the blues on saturday past after realizing I was left in the cold, but now I'm doing the happy dance ! Can't wait to dig into the new features ! Whoo hoo !!
  6. Same position as you, i'm gonna try it once i find my memory stick, i can only find a 4gb one at the moment. Maybe create a new thread if you try it and i'll add my experiences too when i try - it could be of help to other people. One suspects my biggest problem will be the vastly outdated HD 2600 XT GFX card installed on mine, it's something i've never upgraded as it's pretty much an audio only machine. I did try it on my 2012 MBP and the 10.4 update is definitely worth trying the update in my opinion, even if just for the improved/new plugins - let alone the core features added. Darudevil posted earlier on this thread, and has been running Sierra on his 2009 (4.1) without any significant issues, and i've spoken to a few friends who've also done the 'hack' and also had pleasing results, but they're all on 4.1 (2009) machines - so please, if you do step forward create a thread for me to follow, failing that i'll be making one within the next day or two when i find a stick and few hours to spare! Hi ! Yes it's going to be a long and winding road for me personally, I've got an unsupported graphics card as well, to have four outputs on four separate monitors, it's tricky and I miss the mac boot screen, have to wait for the startup which can be hit or miss, many restarts and thumb crossing, add to that the unsupported Os and things get even trickier, but what have I to lose, only time and hair, the latter is a complete loss pretty much. So I'm going for it, I'll post my findings and workarounds, experience etc in a new thread , or onto yours which ever comes first, not a lot of time off until the upcoming weekend, so it's gonna be a process, best of luck !
  7. Mac Pro Early 2008 El Capitan so no go for Logic Pro x 10.4 .... buuuuuuuuuuuuut.... Has anyone here tried the Sierra Patch for unsupported Macs? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7587166 https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-10-12-sierra-unsupported-macs-thread.1977128/ Seems like a logical place to start for those itching to have 10.4 but are on unsupported machines, like myself on an early 2008 MacPro El Capitan... further investigation warranted, I'm gonna give it a shot.. If you can get Sierra then by all means 10.4 is within reach ?
  8. Wow, a cursory search of Mixim only brought really this one thread, similar results over at Gearslutz, I'm frankly surprised it's not more of a hit. My experience working remotely is quite successful, mostly with dropbox, then temporarily with Gobbler and now pretty successful with Mixim. I have a full blown multi computer project studio with a Mac Pro 3, 1 and Logic Pro, Slate and Kush subscriptions, lots of plug ins etc, I've found it's been a pretty quick scenario working remotely, one artist I'm in Manitoba she's in B.C. Of course I realize that we can't share the same large project template that I have with all the virtual instruments and plugins, so the projects we do share are just simpler, just Logic plugins and mostly just bed tracks with vocal dubs. I'll take her first demo attempt and typically beat map or flex time her performances, acoustic guitar , vocal to prepare a rough bed track with drums guitar bass etc, and mix that down into a two track stem typically and send her a rather simple 100 Mb or so Mixim shared project that she can add many takes of vocals to. It's easy in Logic to import her takes into my main "mother project" , remix and send back and forth for revisions, more takes what have you. It's fast quality is great I find and all the projects are easily accessible, my experience is just myself as producer with a single artist , so not complicated, much better than dropbox as it's Logic specific and really straightforward.
  9. many years later full circle, now with TH3 I was perplexed for days at how to get this done, sure enough I google the question and my own thread here I've totally forgotten about until now reveals the same answer many years later, unreal!!
  10. This issue is driving me mad. I am producing an artist remotely, she lives hundreds of miles away. I produce a LPX 10.2.1 project, say 82 bpm. I dropbox the .logicx file to her, she sings into it, in the project itself, then she exports the audio files and sends it to me back using dropbox. I open the file , add it to my version of .logicx and then listen, line it up, BUT when I turn on flex pitch for an edit, the track becomes longer and the timing appears to be as if it's recorded in her logic at 120 bpm. The only work around is to record it back into logic as audio, somehow stripping out the 120 encoded info, and then when I flex pitch it's fine, it doesn't grow 33 percent longer and stretch the s#!+ out of it. What other ways can I verify the encoded tempo and where the problem may lie?
  11. This has been bothering me forever, and i can't figure out why, is it simply a trash the preferences routine, I guess I'll give it a try. No names show up in the recent category either, just pics of the tracks page, arrange window.
  12. here's a shot of my setup, TMF working in the top right monitor.. what? I know, not enough screen real estate...!! TMF working on top right monitor....
  13. For my setup, which is an imac as the main daw, a G5 as a stand alone host (Logic 9.0.2) PPC, and an XP Gateway daw, Kontakt host, occasionally Cubase with Kontakt (for semi stable midi timecode Kontakt 5 rhythm patches) Transmidifier has several advantages over my old workflow. My Trashcan DM24 is my mixer, 24io FW400 into the imac, (just a 20 inch late 2005) pretty weak by today's standards) I have Kontakt 3 on the G5, Kontakt 5 on the imac as well as the XP PC. Loading them all up and jumping between sounds and midi channels and channels on the mixer is a bit of a nightmare. I don't have the dream machine that will run all the plugs and Kontakt instances so i make do with what i have, the key to creating and moving forward. Transmidifier makes it possible to move around this complicated setup and find sounds at the touch of a keyswitch...I can go from my master keyboard Roland A30 to any sound on either of the three daws relatively straightforward. I have a M audio FW410 as the G5 midi/sound interface, an old Echo Audio Gina 20 as the XP PC soundcard, and each of these feed the Trashcan via spdif. While sequencing i find it easiest to go straight through Logic creating external midi tracks that address sounds on either the G5 or XP PC. of course sound that stem from the imac itself are the easiest to work with as Logic takes care of all the patching when you create an audio instrument, and you can bounce and its easy to create parts and bounce down to audio, more creative with respect to the other two daws. I should mention the midi interface is an old parallel MOTU Express XT, can't hook it up to the imac, but if i could it would make life a lot simpler most likely, as the interface / XP PC daw isn't the one i sequence on. Why? Cause I have all this stuff and it all has to do something, as long as it does it stays and plays a part, like an actor who's past his prime but happens to live on set... and works for free. The Transmidifier runs stand alone. I also need to use a program called Midi Patch Bay to create a patch to feed my Korg Nanopad keyswitches to the Transmidifier, as the Nano is usb, and although it appears in AudioMidi setup, there is no way to patch it into Transmidifier's inputs, but this workaround is workable. Or rather it's one way to have more than one midi input driving all the outputs of the TMF (Transmidiier) i.e. Nano feeding it keyswitches, another keyboard sending it midi note events, sustain etc. , another input sending expression or foot controlled MOD 1 CC etc. So to answer your question, I create a midi patch in Midi Patch Bay, on the imac that sends midi to IAC1 CH1, from the Nanopad. I use midi note keyswitches C-1 , in that range, so that notes too low for my 76 note controller would never play on most patches, and these notes switch patches in Transmidifier, . That allows me to play, audition sounds from any machine, even combinations of sounds complete with initializations, little bits of cc data that tell Kontakt or omnisphere little things, as well as Velocity maps to trigger just the right samples from multisampled instruments etc, pretty nifty, though not as deep as Logic's environment transformer, the Transmidifier has a place in my studio, mostly because of my complicated setup and lack of having the dream machine that will do it all, and just wanting to constantly tech things all the time, I'm an AV tech so i just live to be the gearslut who has all his stuff from the last 30 years all working and hooked up making music in a room. Basically IAC is the TMF input, midi patch bay allows you to make as many IAC patches as you like, i.e. from a keyboard, from a nanopad, from a Roland GI 20, etc.. Because my midi interface isn't seen in imac audiomidi setup, it's on another machine, the midi patching is somewhat complicated, actually insanely complicated but i live for this crap so i wouldn't have it any other way.
  14. also the best way to go from Logic to Pro Tools,no?
  15. One environment workaround: Using Mac's Core Midi IAC Created New: Empty Project New Track: External Midi, Port IAC CH1 Logic Physical input I cabled my Master Keyboard midi input in my case IFFFWDM (2360) , my trashcan DM-24 FW card midi in to the SEQ input, that's the ext midi track in the arrange, Port: IAC 1 CH1 Environment Window Click and Ports IAC 1 option click and cable to software instrument, in this case Kontakt 5. Create New Input in TransMIDIfier and set its in to IAC1 CH1 and its out to IFFFWDM (plug 1) as its known, and I can address Kontakt from this external midi track. What's the big deal? The deal is one midi track in Logic, and a world of midi outputs internally (IAC) and externally IPmidi etc and custom Program switches and CC's for days, combinations of midi instruments, switches, articulations, exciting stuff for midi geek Library collecting Keyswitch freaks! Think about it!!!
